Overall very nice university. Professors are easily accessible and most enjoy helping the student learn and grow. Facilities are good, and class sizes are small to medium. Buildings are spread out, but campus is easy to navigate. Dorms are nicely sized and entire campus is safe.

LSSU is a wonderful school. The campus is beautiful. Class sizes are quite small, almost like high school. There are plenty of opportunities to receive extra help if you need it. Sault Ste. Marie is a great town to live in. Hockey is the big sport here and LSSU takes their hockey very seriously! The games are really fun. The students really get into it. I would highly recommend LSSU to prospective students!

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Lake Superior State University is a very nice university to attend if you are looking for a small campus and small class size. However, it does have its trade-offs. Some of these trade-offs are that classes are only offered during certain times of the day, professors are usually busy teaching and not have a ton of office hours, and the dorm rooms are pretty small. However, their small class sizes, small campus, and the ability for you to know you professor on a personal level makes it worth going here.

I Love it! The school itself is a very nice campus. Small class sizes-I've never had more than 95 students per class! The campus is small so its very easy to walk around and to get to class. Hockey is HUGE and gives you something to do on the weekends. The town is very small, and not much to do in town, but great places to hike, hunt, and fish! The professors are usually very good with meeting outside of class and answering questions, plus there is free math, writing, and tutoring for students

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I certainly would not waste this exceptional opportunity to chit chat about my past regrets and self-perceived failures. Instead, I would use my advanced knowledge of the future to describe to my young self precisely how to engineer this time machine. Considering what I now know about college life, I would advise my curious self to travel in this time machine to major turning points in history rather than read biased versions of the truth in an oversized textbook. I would thus spark a technological revolution, as well as resolve the whole scientific misunderstanding regarding the 4th Dimension. I would assure my 18 year old self that I am on the right track, and then I would pay a visit to my future self to reminisce about the good old days I spent scavenging for scholarship money.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Greg, do not rush on finding a university to attend, but do not wait long either. Do your research well in advance on which universities have great opportunities. The cost of attendence should not be a deterring factor, but do not pick a program in which you will not be able to pay back your loans. Also, you do not need to pick a program that will pay you a high salary if you complete it just for the meere fact of having a high paying salary, but pick a program you truly believe you will enjoy and research which direction you need to tackle in that program to earn that high paying salary. If you take the right coursework in your program of interest, and prepare yourself the the salary you wish to make in that career, you will find a job with the pay you want. There is a great career position in every field of study. Take the time and hard work to earn that position, and do not think for one minute you are not capable of handling it!

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

There are multiple opportunities to adventure outside of the communitry and experience outdoor recreational activities that one cannot experience at many other universities. Also, the friends one can make tend to stay close and share their values. I have no regrets attending this university. I tell my friends that no matter where they go, there are always positives and negatives in any area. It is about getting involved and making your experiences more positive than negative.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Don't be afraid to socialize. Even before the first day of classes, there are events specifically for freshman. No one will think you are "weird" for trying to talk to them. Don't worry about leaving your high school friends hundreds of miles behind. YOU have dreams. FOLLOW THEM. If your high school friends are true friends, you won't lose touch. Don't skip classes. Go to your professors if you have questions. They DO care. They have office hours for a reason. I would give you more specific advice in regards to who to be friends with and who to avoid, but everything happens for a reason. You may not ever realize those reasons, but that's the thing about life lessons. They can be subtle. Apply for every scholarship you can. Every dollar you don't have to pay back helps. This is your life: enjoy it.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I had known how challenging the college courses would be. I also wish I had known some people, but it turned out for the best that i had to socialize.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

Everyone knows everyone, and the professors really care about you as an individual student. Also, the campus is absolutely gorgeous. The gym is a perfect size and well taken care of. The distance from home forces me to stay on campus on the weekends, but that isn't a bad thing. I've made enough friends to make weekends around here fun. It also gives me plenty of time to do neccessary studying as well.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I love Lake Superior State University. It has provided me with lots of great experiences and personal attention. There are a lot of opportunities to become involved in different activities. As a freshman I have been able to get the help that I need with school and other problems. The small class sizes are very nice, all my teachers know me by my first name and are always there to help.

Describe the students at your school.

We have a very diverse group of students at LSSU from athletes to art and drama students. Being such a small school you get to know people of all interests. The students attire varies a great deal with some students who will come to class in a full 3 piece suit and others who will walk in with their slippers and pajamas on. As for where students come from we have a wide range. I would say one thing that sets us apart from other schools would be our Canadian student population. Being so close to Canada we draw in a lot of Canadian students and in turn have the opportunity to learn a lot of there culture as compared with ours.

What are the academics like at your school?

The academics are great! They provide personal attention and make the learning process much easier than I anticipated it would be. With the small class sizes I am able to be more involved and active in all of our class discussions.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?

We have several Student groups on campus. Most commonly joined groups consist of the Greek organizations, student government, SIFE, Activities Board and several others. If there isn't a group that a student wants to join, that's ok! Lake State allows students to create any group or club they want.

What are the academics like at your school?

Professors address me by my first name. They are very casual and approachable. My major is Criminalistics with a minor in psychology and chemistry. This major requires a significant amount of studying, which my professors help me with when needed. All professors here at Lake State have what we call "Office Hours". Each professor makes themselves available to students during these office hours for any help or questions we might have.
