Lewis & Clark College Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Caroline

Because it is a small school, the faculty can only handle a certain amount of courses to offer per semester, especially the basic, non-major courses to cover your grad requirments. So, if you don't take care of your priority classes or requirements, it can be hard to finish everything you need before graduating, ESPECIALLY if you study abroad. Also, it might be hard to find a social niche at first, or change friend groups is there is drama, since it's a small campus and gossip travels fast.

The most frustrating thing about Lewis & Clark is that the school attracts a very bright group of students. The course load is very rigorous, and the bar is set very high for undergrad students. However, there is an extreme lack of motivation amongst the student body. People are not "doers." It is very difficult to get the entire student body motivated for anything, we are lacking school spirit.

One of the most frustating thing that I could really find is the college website. It has a very vast server but many students are not aware and cannot make the perfect use of it.

Hannah

Religion is looked down upon by select students and faculty/staff. Also, majors are not given priority in registration for some intro level classes that serve as prerequisites to higher classes in the major. The last thing that frustrates me is that there is really no political diversity.

The most frustrating thing for me is the most frustrating thing about college in general: finances. I was just recently diagnosed with Cyclic Vomiting Disease, which required numerous, expensive medical tests, and the though of paying another arm and leg to attend college depletes my academic momentum. As a private school Lewis and Clark is more expensive than most 4 year colleges, and with the recession financial packages have been increasingly reduced; its simply not plausible to pay 120 thousand dollars for an undergraduate degree in education when I plan to go on to law school.

There is a lack of traditions and school spirit at Lewis & Clark. The LC 'community' isn't really a community and students are not really motivated to try to make it one. There are a few events on campus that bring students together, but not really any that can unite all LC students as one because there are people with such diverse interests.

the caffeteria is good food, don't let people way otherwise, but its the only real option and that makes is a problem. the breadth of the classes is sometimes an issue. (i.e. the teachers in a department are slightly narrowly focused.

The inconvenient hours that the cafeteria is open/the monopoly Bon Apetit has on campus, the cafes are overpriced
