Lewis & Clark College Top Questions

What's unique about your campus?

Hannah

Lewis & Clark has the most breath-taking campus. It provides the perfect environment under which to live, laugh, love, and study. There are always new places to explore and small nooks to claim for your own. You can stake out a claim around the beautiful rose gardens, or next to the tranquil reflecting pond. The gloomy weather that seems to be perpetually blanketing Portland provides for a constant study-friendly atmosphere.

The people are definitely the best thing about my school. Their passion and dedication to their interests and to the community and the world are inspiring to be around. People are willing to share their passions with you and help you explore your own interests. One afternoon, I joined my biology professor for a bird watching hike in a nearby state park. I learned hands on about the natural world in our community and discussed my future plans with my mentor. Professors, staff, and students from Lewis & Clark are my life long friends.

I would have to say the social atmosphere on campus. While it can be hard to fit in among the predominately upper-class student body when you don't come from their world of ski resorts and summer homes; where true friends can be found, they will - I guarantee - remain with you forever. In that regard, it's the respect and acceptance of international students among the student body that has continuously made me thank my decision to come here.

Its location in Portland is amazing. The city has a lot of cultural experiences and nighlife to offer and the surrounding nature is accessible and gorgeous. Lewis and Clark is small and community oriented and really liberal. There are several interesting classes to choose from and the learning envoronment is friendly, fun, intimate and productive.

Rachel

It feels like one big family; people are really nice and inclusive and you can form bonds with others really easily.

The campus is beautiful, the students and faculty are great, and we are a cohesive and awesome community. It is a great place to live, work, and learn.

Sophie

The professors here are incredible, and because of the small class sizes they're able to give each of us a lot of personal attention. Even though its a small school, it tends to attract fairly progressive, intelligent, interesting people, so you're bound to be exposed to new perspectives and interests. I also love the fact that our campus is very self-contained, in the middle of a beautiful wilderness, but that we have free transportation into downtown Portland which is only a half-hour away. Its the best of both worlds.

Jennifer

The education. Many of the classes I have taken have been challenging and interesting. I have learned a lot. There are some downfalls, like a lack of classes that are offered, as well as a lack of availability for course. The classes are interesting, but it is hard to get into them ... and the school never seems to offer another section even if there is 20 people on the waitlist.

Kira

The people are great and I absolutely love the surrounding city of Portland, it's a great place to experience college. It's small and friendly and community based, and you're amongst good values and great information. And it's absolutely GORGEOUS on campus!!! And you can always go to the sunny steps and smoke with someone if you want, which is also very nice.

Sarah

My group of friends, the community we've created together, the enthusiastic professors, and the outstanding study abroad program

The professors. They are almost always available, and I've never had a teacher who I thought was incompetent at his or her job.
