London - 12/10/2023

Lincoln University, the very first HBCU, is a fantastic school that was formed in 1854, in my opinion. Business, computer science, education, biology, and social work are among the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees offered. The student body and faculty are diverse, and the institution takes pride in its commitment to social justice and community involvement. It's a secure environment in which to study and grow as a person. Lincoln has a rich history and alumni if you take the time and effort to learn about it. We have Langston Hughes as an alumnus, as well as the first Ghanaian president and the first Nigerian president. The campus has a strong feeling of community and a supportive atmosphere. They provide you with the materials you need to succeed. Sports, clubs, and organizations provide students with opportunities to develop leadership abilities, meet new people, and participate in exciting and important activities outside of the classroom. It has a considerable amount of variety. They provide you with the opportunity to study abroad. Everyone contributes to the school community without ever realizing it. The meal might be hit or miss at times. Don't get me wrong, every location has its ups and downs. It wasn't my first choice of school, but I'm pleased I selected it as my final option.

Weekends are lonely and boring when you friends go home or you do not have a vehicle.

Laneya - 04/28/2023

Every college has its highs and lows. Lincoln is an HBCU that can be very welcoming. The faculty does try to make everyone feel at home. Although, it is a very old campus so housing is not the best. I wouldn't say Lincoln is an amazing campus but it's not horrible. Honestly, the main things at this school are the Greek organizations and sports.

I think Lincoln University is a very diverse college, that also promotes study skills

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself that balancing school work is very important. Being able to differentiate social life with academic life is a very important aspect of college. Even though I have been doing very well in college, I would have made better decisions such as studying longer and choosing my friends wisely. I would tell myself not to be afraid to ask questions. In order to get what you want in life, you have to be proactive and dedicated to your learning experience. I would say choose your friends wisely because everyone does not want to see you succeed. A saying that I find important and that would have been helpful before my college experience would be "Don't deposit valuable information to negative people because you will always wind up with a bounced check". This means that negative people will not always support your goals or support you as a person. I would not have known this if it was not for experience. I would tell myself to appreciate where you come from because everyone is not allowed this great opportunity.

  14. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

The stereotypical view of students at my school are mixed. There is no one type of student when Lincoln University is mentioned, but our school does have a reputation for Greek life so that would be one stereotype that there are many Greeks. The stereotypes are accurate however there are many organizations on our campus that get people popular on campus, but like many the most famous is being a part of a Fraternity.

  15. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

The popular group activities at our school are surprisingly not the sports. The most popular would be the Greeks, models, music groups. I met my closest friends through us all being freshman and realizing we needed to stick together to make a name for ourselves on campus.

  16. What is your overall opinion of this school?

The best thing about Lincoln University is that it is a small school so the relationships that a student gains with their teacher is personal, therefore no matter what goes on the educational department is very hands on and makes it easier to get a better understanding. What I would change about the school is maybe the requirements to get in. Although our school may not be Ivy league it should not be treated as any less and not just anyone should be allowed to get in. Lincoln University can sometimes seem to small but with the renovations at the school it should make the school seem more spacious so at this point I would consider it too small but progressing to get bigger. Whenever I tell people I go here they first ask me where is it at, but once I explain it they all say oh the school that Vanessa went to on the Cosby show. I spend most of my time between our gym and our new library. What college town our school is in the middle of no where. The school's administration is not the worse but their not the best either a few adjustments are being made at the moment seeing as how we officially have a new president. The biggest recent controversy on our campus was in early November this year the death of one our students..three students were in a brutal car accident leaving one dead, one in critical condition, and another injured. Things have gotten better since then though. The school did not have much pride when I got there but since being here for a year and joining different organizations you see the pride a lot more. There are many experiences I have at this school to just narrow down one. The most frequent complaints at our school has been the food and the heat.

  17. What are the academics like at your school?

Being that Lincoln University is not a huge school a lot of the experiences that you have with professors are very personal. Majority of time professors will remember your name if you are showing up to class. There will be your share of students who do compete with each other for the highest grades in hopes to have the higher GPA. A lot of times class participation depends on the teacher's teaching methods. If the teacher is interesting or has a exciting way of teaching then there maybe a high amount of participation where as teachers who just read and lecture in a monotone voice its very likely participation will be low. In my major of Mass Communications everything is very hands on meaning you will get to interact with your professor. Most of what you will learn will teach you things about your major but it's mainly preparing you for both the real world and the career you get into.
