What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Students should choose the college that is feel right to them and not what is expected of them. By following their hearts they will find the best college that is right.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I thought that I grew up in a cultured enviroment but when I went to college I realized that there are a lot more problems within the United States that I realized.

Lock Haven really does have a little bit of everything. The people are very diverse and are willing to meet new people and try new things. The International Program has a variety of options and can get you almost anywhere around the world with even some prestige. The array of culture gives you a broader base of the world that is uncomparable to many places.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Look around and do research. Guidance counselors, word of mouth, internet, and open houses are the most beneficial. This helps in finding what matches your interests or what you may want to be interested in. Have confidence that you can get into any place you want because there are endless opportunities that are available everywhere. Get ready to go out if that suits you, have late study nights, meet several diverse people, and to enjoy living the next step of life independently. In a way, all colleges are the same. The difference is the way you perceive them to be. The point is to make the experience just the way you want it to work out. Be open-minded, understanding, and willing to accept new challenges, ideas, and people. Enter any university excited and ready to start a new life that leads to a great future and most importantly to have a chance to find yourself.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

If a person comes from a large city and is very extroverted, Lock Haven is not the place to attend. It is a very low key campus with tons of activities but you need to make yourself open and ambitous to join them. If you need action every weekend or non-stop fun then choose wisely! Also, it is not the most elite university or well known, so if a person is just looking for the name to get by in life (ex. Penn State) then this should not be a top choice.

I chose Lock Haven because it is close to home, the beautiful area, and the class sizes are perfect. You have anywhere from 30 kstudents in a class in your major, to 120 students in your general education classes. No matter what the size of the class the professor and the students do their absolute best to accomodate each other and the facilities available. Lock Haven is a small town, country university that takes pride in the surrounding environment, and do its best to keep it beautiful because it is a key recruiter in bringing students to this small town.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Lock Haven i unique because it is in a country setting, but it also has a nice social life. One can go hiking or kayaking during the day, and then go out with friends at night. Not too many places offer those two aspects. Lock Haven is racially diverse and yet everyone gets along, converses with each other and hang out. A young man from Philadelphia and a young man from Sullivan county, to complete differences in what they call "home" will meet in Lock Haven and become best friends.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The best advice I can give parents is to let your child chose where they want to go, no matter the price allow them to go wherever they want. There will always be financial aide and scholarship opportunities to help in the financial process. As for the student i advise them to chose the place that best fits them. If they want close interaction with people, then they should chose a smaller school, if they dont want close interation with few but mild interaction with many then choose a larger university. Also, no matter where you chose there will always be a party scene. Not all places allow you to hike, kayak, boat, and have a night life. Choose the best college personality that fits your own.
