Los Medanos College Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Jamari

I would have wanted to know how to write a research essay well. I attended Summer Bridge before going to college and read lots of books on college. So, I knew what to expect. It's just that I needed to develop the skills to pass my classes.

I really wish I would have known how taxing it is to commute to college. Not only that, but how difficult it is to register for the classes you need, you need to register the very first minute to assure you get in all the classes you need. I would have never expected to meet anyone with similar intrests either, being an introvert inhibits social activity, but just like in high school, all one has to do, is jump in a conversation, or join a club for your intrests. College promotes the importance of network building and will immensly help.

Sarah

I wish I had know about the transfer opportunities available as well as a more inexpensive way to pay for textbooks. I came to this college as a way to transfer to another college but I really had to search for the information I needed regarding my transfer credits and deadlines.

There isn't anything I wish I hadn't known before I entered this school. The school's website is very informative and their staff is very helpful. The only thing I wish is that I had enough courage to enter earlier in my life.

Some of things that I wish I had known before coming to Los Medanos College is that not everyone has your best interest in mind. In my first year, I believe the total opposite and my first semester became a total waste as my counselor signed me up for classes that I didnt need. Listened to people on my financial aid and lost close to 4000 on my finanical aid. But regardless of those incidents, life is a learning lesson. You live and you learned about how to do things next time and I sure did learn and adapt.

To be truthful, I am grateful I came into college not knowing anything, so that I could learn everything that I was being taught.

Nicole

There is nothing that I wish I knew.

How easy it would be to sign up for my courses. And how helpful the LMC staff are towards my career goal. And the efficiency of the financial aid staff in helping me to acquire grants and school loans for my education.
