The sense of community is very strong at Luther. In other schools, everyone seemed to be looking out for themselves or busy focusing on their future. At Luther students find a way to be focused on their studies, but not more competitivie than they have to be. Students here genuinely care about eachother in a way that is uncommon at other schools.
The large sense of community and spirituality. How accepting everyone is no matter what race or sexuality.
Everyone is so friendly. Everytime I came for a campus visit people smiled and said "hi!", even the students walking to class. Admissions always tried to help me meet with someone in the music department to talk over all my options and sit in on a few classes and choir rehersals.
It is a Liberal Arts College, Located in Decorah, Iowa. It's unique in many ways you can imagine! It is a small campus of only 2,500 students from all four grade levels, which makes the transition of high school to college simpler then I would have never imagined. Another is just the plan performing arts! Here on campus we have six vocal ensembles, six insrtumental ensembles, and the Theatre/Dance program. Luther College is also very diverse in their student body, they have many students from not just across the country but also from across the world.
You can be involved in many activities
The most unique thing about Luther College is the music program. It is not hard to participate in music if you are not a major or minor, and there are still many opportunities to be involved in other things as well. We have seven choirs, three bands, and three orchestras. We also have two jazz bands and other student-run organizations. Luther is a close knit community that also offers a wold of opportunities and knowledge to anyone who wishes to apply themselves.
Luther College has many unique aspects, as do many other schools, but its atmosphere sets it apart from the rest. Only at Luther College will you find a student population that is so tightly knit that anywhere you turn, you can encounter a new friend. The friendly, accepting environment never fails. You can feel the magic from Luther's unique atmosphere by just walking across campus and hearing students, at random, harmonizing to a song or when you have a conversation with a complete stranger on the way to class and end up becoming lifelong friends.
small, close-knit, laid-back focused
Small town Liberal Arts school.
There is a great sense of community amongst the majority of the people on campus. Everyone is very friendly and have the midwest friendly attitude. Playing two varsity sports is very common at my school and is encouraged.
Decorah is a beautiful place, and it just felt right to be here. The music program is fantastic and that was what drew me to Luther College first.
The wonderful connection between what you learn in the classroom and what you're able to take into the world! Professors want their students to excel outside of the classroom, so they work hard to incorporate real-world applications in a classroom setting. Also, faith plays a strong role in student's lives, yet if you don't religiously associate yourself you are still a welcome member of the community.
Luther is a close-knit school that has a strong musical base and one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation.
