Luther College Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Mary

The most frustrating thing about my school is the our start and end times for the semesters. We begin a later week in the summer then most schools and get out the end of May. This would not be a problem except most summer programs such as internships and summer classes begin the week we have ginals or the week before our finals. This schedule makes it difficult to apply for programs that could better prepare for a career and make us a stronger applicant for a job.

The most fustrating thing about my school is there is less emphasis put on our education program. I am wishing to be a music teacher, but in order to do that I have to be a music major, with a minor in music education. So not only to I have to take all the classes and extra pieces to become a certified teacher, I also have to recieve a major in Music performance. While I enjoy music, I do not wish to only perform for my entire life, I wish to make future music makers through the world of education.

Luther college is great, but they could improve the communication between departments and students. If Finacial aid needs paperwork from a student, then they should email them early on, not wait until the end of the semester. Communication could use some work, but otherwise Luther College has everything else down pretty well.

Katie

I find it frustrating when professors change their testing regimine at the end of the semester.

David

The Most frustrating thing about Luther College is the Tuition. College itself is amazing to attend, but the tuition being high it's a constent reminder of what weight is on my shoulders. It's worth paying the tuiton, but as it is increasing in the next academic year it's becoming more of a struggle acquiring the scholarships and loans I need, to help me stay on this campus. My family is bearing the financial burden which causes them to make sacrafices they don't wish to make. This scholarship well not only help but my family as well.

The only frustrating part about Luther is its location. Decorah, IA is a about an hour away from any large cities. So, if you wanted to get away from the small town in the bluffs of Iowa, you would have to travel a little ways. However, there is really no large issue with this as mostly everything you need you can find in Decorah. But, if you want to go to a more commercial restaurant or shopping mall you have to travel an hour.

Madison

Students are expected to act like professional young adults, but treated as children. Lack of choices: must live on campus in inadequate housing until being approved as a Senior; recently outsourced to catering company, Sodexo. Lack of healthy meals or choices in food; Lack of career center resourcefulness: asked for help in seeking an internship, pretty certain they just googled "Internships in Iowa".

Bryanna

I have not found anything that is particularly frustrating.

Cassandra

There is nothing to terribly frustrating about Luther. However, since it is a liberal arts college there are more required classes to take than at a state univeristy. This is nice because you are able to explore and possibly find something that you did not know you were interesting in. This is also a pain though because it is hard to fit in these classes for certian majors, like nursing.

Alicia

The most frustrating part about Luther College is the high tuition costs.

Zachariah

Professors are sometimes overzealous in assigning reading requirements. In essence there will be days where one seems bogged down with homework, and then suddenly have nothing to do.

Laura

The most frustrating thing about my school is having to jump through so many hoops to graduate.

Andrea

The most frustrating thing about Luther is the housing process. It was based on the number of credits, and some kids came in at such an advantage with high school credits that they were always ahead. It's not until your senior year that you are allowed to live off-campus, so each spring room draw is a big deal. However, planning ahead with your friends what you will do if you don't get your first choice allows for some flexibility and we always ended up enjoying where we lived.

Melissa

It can be difficult to catch your professors outised of class if you don't know their office hours. So it can be very helpful to know that sort of information.
