What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

People at Macalester are themselves. Always. There is no ideal for how you're supposed to act, what you're supposed to do, who you're supposed to be. The only social expectation you'll ever face is the pressure to be YOURSELF. It's immensely refreshing to be valued for the individual that you are, in all your strengths as well as your imperfections. At the same time, you find yourself consistently being prodded outside of your usual comforts and into a plethora of experiences. African drumming is a complimentary activity for International Studies majors, I've discovered!

The dedication it has to its community and the fun I have while there.

It is incredibly freindly and academically challenging. Both students and faculty enjoy engaging conversations that incite controversy and humor. There's a great music scene in the Twin Cities area and plenty of activities to do around campus. The student body is very diverse and tolerant. People expressive themselves in a myriad of ways, and no one seems to care.
