Maine Maritime is a life-changing school. My choice to attend is 100% the best choice I have made in my life, and I stand by that even after two years at the academy. It's a small school, which I love because knowing everyone around me and having a close support network appeals to me. Class sizes are also small, meaning that you get to know your professors on a much more personal level than in larger schools, which also means that you get more personalized help, and they'll be understanding of the difficulties that life throws at you. There are plenty of activities around Castine (the town that MMA is in), but they're mostly outdoors or through the campus activities board. You've gotta get creative or go to the surrounding towns to have fun around here. The mess deck (cafeteria) is all-you-can-eat, but you probably won't want to each much of it, unfortunately. It's kind of like a scavenger hunt when it comes to finding good food, but you can usually piece together a decent meal. The dorms are pretty drab (concrete EVERYWHERE), but it's a shared experience and the occasional chaos that comes with an 80% male school makes for good stories and memories. This school has leadership opportunities that most schools don't even come close to matching unless they are other Maritime Academies or military schools. If you're coming in as an unlimited license major, you'll have to be in the Regiment of Midshipmen. You wear a uniform every day when you're in the regiment, which makes choosing what to wear for the day super easy. I've met some of my best friends ever at Maine Maritime, and the school has challenged me to be a better person. I also get to say that I sailed across the Atlantic and have been to the arctic circle at the age of 18. Not many other schools offer opportunities like that! Overall, Maine Maritime has its challenges. But the community and friendship that you experience, along with the personal development and unmatched opportunity, make it all worthwhile. Life in Castine is a unique experience, and I'm grateful that I chose to attend Maine Maritime Academy!
My overall experience and and union ablug the s Academy good it provides a challenging structure and enviro for people to grow as leads and in the accdemics by
I really like the good vibes that this college provides. The small class sizes, decent food, and the fact that you're learning from teachers who are intelligent and have years of background work in the specific job field or career you are earning a degree towards. Very nice campus.
Though there's not much to do outside of school up here in Castine, Maine, the education is simply unmatched, especially for those of us in the Regiment of Midshipmen. For those interested in obtaining U.S. Coast Guard License(s), Maine Maritime Academy is an excellent choice. It is well worth the investment.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Maine Maritime Academy is 75%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.
Look into the future and see what will lie ahead for available jobs. Takes money to make money.
I think that there could be more academic intensity placed on the students than what currently is being placed on them. With that, the school should become more academically selective than what it currently is because alot of students who are currently attending seem to not have the academic focus that colleges should require.
Merchant Mariners, great jobs, big money, comrodery
People who are hard working and driven to suceed should only attend this school. It is a hard but very rewarding school/
This school can take alot out of you, but it pays in dividends.
Redneck
Its a very small campus but is very career focused
I wish i had fully realized just how hard and important it is to have an effective time management system. It took me the whole first semester just to develop my own system that now works for me
The best thing about my school is the career focused cariculum. Every major has a specifice course track that has to be followed and with sucessfull completion you will have a good paying job right off the bat.
Maine Maritime gives me an amazing opportunity to step into the industry and start working right away. My education is incomparable to other schools, with constant hands-on learning and in-depth lectures. Company representatives are always on campus recruiting students with exciting and great paying jobs. I feel that I've learned more at Maine Maritime Academy during the first quarter than many of my friends learned in their standard college in an entire year.
If you can?t devote your whole self, body and soul to your major at Maine Maritime you shouldn?t be here. This school is training its students to be true professionals in the maritime industry. If you're the type of person that doesn?t like to get a little dirty and can't handle a real challenge then this school may not be for you. At Maine Maritime you'll find yourself doing things that require a strong back and stomach to finish. You can't be someone who gives up when the going gets tough.
