Manhattanville College Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Taylor

I wish someone had told me to bring a printer and to not room with more than one person because it's hard freshman year. You have to go to the library every day, and you will hate your roommates since you'll never have any privacy.

I wish I knew more about NYC and the opportunities that the college opened up for students in the city. I took full advantage of the campus in many respects: enrolling in courses in different departments, getting involved with volunteering/social justice, becoming a part of student life - BUT I should have taken advantage of the career center and done an internship in the city / taken greater advantage of the proximity of the school to NYC. I would encourage any student attending Manhattanville to really take advantage of this and to not squander that opportunity.

I wish I had known that the school was such a large commuter school. I feel like on the weekends everybody leaves where I am one to get out and hangout with my fellow classmates and go watch games with my school. The community at school is small as it is so when everyone leaves it is a very quiet campus where not much activity is happening at school.

If i would have been provided with the experience of how fast passed college work is and how demanding it is. If i would have been provided with the information of time management and not to waste any time and stay on top of my work.

I wish that I had known about how the scholarship at the school works. The only bad thing about the school is they try to get money out of you in any way possible. I also wish I knew that when people drink on campus and break things everyone who lives in the building gets to pay for the damages. I also wish that I was told what the professors are expecting. My biggest wish is that I was informed about how the community service scholarship worked.

I wish I knew most of the people before I came in, but since it's college I think it's fine that I didn't because if I do then the purpose of goin to college for a new start wouldn't be really emphasized

Manhattanville College is a very small, liberal arts school. Liberal should be taken literally. This campus is very easy going, but much of the school seems dedicated to finding yourself through your academic ventures. If you're the type of learner who needs to be coddled, this is not the college for you. Mville is all about self discovery, therefore you will often be teaching yourself via outside learning sources, but of course the professors are very supportive and willing to help. I loved it there.

Alexandra

I wish I had known about more extracurricular activities that were available. Additionally, when I transferred to this college, a new cataloge was implemented which followed a very different course for majors which I had been told about my students that were already attending. I wish that I had known this change would have been taking place because I would have been able to get certain courses out of the way to leave my schedule open for more electives.

I wished I had known some of the rules of the dorms. When you get accepted to a college, they tell you about how drugs an alcohol is unacceptable but they do not tell you certain things as well. When i got there, i met all types of people. I met people who care about their education and the space of how they live and some who do not. I wished I would of knowned that the damages that take place in the Halls will be payed by everyone who lives there. They divide the cost by number of students.

Jason

I wish i would have known about the maturity level. From the students to the administration, the school is immature. There are obviously exceptions but for the most part everyone does not know how to handle themselves on a professional or personal/ethical basis.

Emma

Nothing. I love it.

Mimi

I wish I'd known that people here are not particularly inspried.

Rachel

It really feels as small as it is and I would have done better in a bigger school.
