Marist is the only school with a Red Fox as a mascot; his name is Shooter. If you attended any other school, a common argument would be which school has the best panther, or who's cardnal has a better costume. Not at Marist; we are unique and very original, not to mention Shooter has a cool costume that attracts kids.

Marist College is amazing. It is just the right size, not too big and not too small. The classes are rarely more than 30 students so your professors really know you. We have a great night life whether you want to bar hop or go to a frat party. Even if you don't drink, Marist offers a ton of stuff to do when you're not in class. The housing is also great. After freshman year, you're almost guaranteed an apartment style house with your friends. In the warm weather everyone lays outside and has a great time. We like to call it camp Marist.

The greek life on campus is small but they do a lot. They run Relay For Life and many other charities, the frats have houses and have parties, and they have greek week in the spring. Poughkeepsie has a ton of bars, some are 21+ while some are 18 to get it. Taxis will take you there for $2 a ride. Sports teams also have houses and will have parties. Junior and Senior housing isn't dry so they can drink in their dorms. Marist also sponsors events like concerts, coffeehouses, plays, and trips to the city for cheap. There really is never a dull moment here.

All the professors are experts in their field. They all work one on one with you and have to have office hours where you can go and ask questions or get help. The writing center will proofread your papers for free and Marist also can hook you up with a tutor if you're having trouble in a class. Our iLearn system makes it possible to take classes online or supplement a physical class.

At first, Marist may seem to be comprised of white, middle-to-upper class students from places like Long Island and New Jersey. While a percentage of our population is from the Tri-State area and come from suburban areas, this is not true of the entire student body. After a short time at the school, you will begin to pick up on just how DIVERSE we really are. It may not seem so on the outside, but I am constantly amazed by the wide variety of backgrounds, personalities, experiences and opinions of my fellow students. There is just about every "type" of college student represented at Marist and finding your niche is simply an act of putting yourself out there, joining clubs and activities that interest you and making the most out of your time here.

It is an semi-expensive private school so many people here are in the upper middle class but Marist is doing a good job in trying to become more diverse. We have a big fashion program here too so you'll see a lot of really well dressed girls in your 8am classes and feel sloppy in your pajamas.
