I love Mars Hill. It's a small school and you make friends instantly. Every teacher I've had has been very helpful and it's very obvious that they love their job. The teachers also show that they care about you as a student, not just a number. When you are not able to make office hours, teachers are willing to meet with you in the cafeteria if absolutely necessary. At Mars Hill I feel like a student, and not a number.

I love the college and the people there. It is nice and the classes are typically small sized. The teachers can work with you one on one. The view walking from my dorm room is gorgeous. It is a beautiful campus and I love the classes and atmosphere of it all.

It is a very small school and a great environment but it is not a party school and if you want to party you have to go somewhere kind of far. The school brings in various students for sports but most students thing that the school doesn't care about it's athletes.

I fell in love with Mars Hill University from the very moment that I stepped on campus. Not only did the mountains, atmosphere, and academics intrigue me, the community really made me feel welcomed on campus. I was making friends in no time at all, I was able to contact my professors, and my college transition went smoother then I would ever imagine. After finishing my first semester as a freshman on this campus, I would reccomend others to attend here one hundred percent. Yes party's happen and although it is an alcohol free campus, that doesnt mean there isnt going to be alcohol or drugs used. You just have to make that stand to not hang with those people or go to those places, and as long as you do that, you will become very succesfful at Mars Hill University. My dad always told me you have to pick the right play grounds and the right people to play on those playgrounds with. Finding your right spot is very easy to do on this campus and whether you love the arts, have a passion for outdoors, or dedicated to a sport, this campus works to help you find your passion and place in life. So many cultural centers and places to visit on and off campus, you become apart of the family at this university.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

At one time Mars Hill was a haven for those who haven't found themselves, but alas this is no longer the case. This stems from both the annual increase in tuition. As well as the administrative changes that have removed the atmosphere of fun and community that the institution tries to publicly promote.

I was not pleased with the college's education department AT ALL. I was enrolled in the education program and a Canadian. I went through 4 years, graduated and all, and during that summer I was called by the Education department stating I would not receive my teaching certificate as I did not have a SSN. Now, I would be perfectly fine with that had I known about this in my first year. The "teachers" (they are not professors in my eyes) should have known about the North Carolina policy, and told me that I could not get the license. But fuck me right? Don't choose education if you are Canadian attending this school

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I love the fact that it's a small campus, and the landscape is beautiful. There's a strong sense of community in the area and I feel like my friends and professors are my family. However, the nearest town to do stuff in requires a car, and many students (including myself) don't have a car. However, the amount of activities happening on-campus is laughable. If the students would organize events, there would be more things to do. The staff isn't going to do everything for us.

Describe the students at your school.

The other students here at Mars Hill University are really friendly, and most of us come from smaller, christian towns so we all have alot in common. There's definitely not any prejudice here, and we do not really form cliques like I've seen at some of my other friends schools. SInce this school is not extremely big, and we all pretty much know each other, theres definitely a lot of trust going on, and there's always someone to hang out with or go to dinner with because we're a really close comminuty.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could talk to my highschool self, there's definitely a couple of things I would tell her. The first thing I'd say is, even though you've taken A.P. and honors classes your entire educational career, do not think you can easily breeze through college courses, and do no sign up for more than you think you can handle. I chose alot of advanced courses my first semester that I wish I could take back. I'd also tell me to make sure I registered for classes early enough, that I didnt end oup forced to take an 8 a.m. class- they're the worst! But my most important piece of advice would be, to just be myself, and not try to impress others by drinking too much, and partying too much, because the same people I was trying to impress so hard, ended up flunking out of college, or on academic probation. Just be myself, and do not rush into friendships with people I do not feel free to be at liberty around. It will be better in the long run, in my relationships and in my classes.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

When i brag about my school to my friends, I always talk about how beautiful my campus is, we are surrounded by mountains and a small older town and most everyone takes really good care in keeping trash and debri off the ground. I also love how the school isn't extremely big, it gives me a small, home town type of vibe and I feel like I know almost everyone here. I can really say I feel at home at Mars Hill, because everyone is so friendly, and everywhere you turn theres a familiar face to help you out.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If i could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior. I would tell myself to work extra hard for my SAT and ACT in order to get better scholarship offers. Also I would tell myself about what were to happen my first year in college, and how to fight back and focus on my studies. Lastly I would tell myself to get a job in order to make money to pay off what I would owe Mars Hill College that following semester. These are the things that I would tell myself from the past in order to be better prepared.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about Mars Hill College would have to be financial aid. I say this because after your first year at collge they up your pricing becasue they only gotten you to atten their college.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

The type of person that should attend Mars Hill College, should be someone who is willing to stay focused not give into peer pressure and can most definietly stay in there room and study.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, knowing what I know now about college life and making the transition, I would tell myself to budget my money and apply for as many scholarships as I can. I would tell myself that budgeting money is very important because pell grant may not be enough to cover everything. Sometimes students may have to use their own money for tuition, fees, and books. If a student does not pay all of their tuition and fees by the chosen deadline, it may cause them to be dropped from their classes. As far as books go, they are not as cheap as one may think, even at community colleges. Students really do need them in order to pass their classes. It is important for future college students and current college students to apply for scholarships as well. Scholarship money is very beneficial. No matter what the amount is, one should still apply. There are numerous scholarships out there for everyone. All in all, as a full time student, I have learned that it is important to save up and get as much help as I can.
