My opinion of the university is that your there to learn and be familiar to new thingsthat you didn't know at first. If you would like to live on or off campus there's plenty of housing available. Get to know your professors well outside of the classroom.

I was not pleased with the college's education department AT ALL. I was enrolled in the education program and a Canadian. I went through 4 years, graduated and all, and during that summer I was called by the Education department stating I would not receive my teaching certificate as I did not have a SSN. Now, I would be perfectly fine with that had I known about this in my first year. The "teachers" (they are not professors in my eyes) should have known about the North Carolina policy, and told me that I could not get the license. But fuck me right? Don't choose education if you are Canadian attending this school

I love the fact that it's a small campus, and the landscape is beautiful. There's a strong sense of community in the area and I feel like my friends and professors are my family. However, the nearest town to do stuff in requires a car, and many students (including myself) don't have a car. However, the amount of activities happening on-campus is laughable. If the students would organize events, there would be more things to do. The staff isn't going to do everything for us.

Mars Hill University is an overall descent school, you get what you pay for. The staff and faculty are friendly and willing to help you with whatever is in their power, even though they are not always able to. The university overcharges for it's on-campus housing, and the meal plans are not always the best. The dining hall staff only puts out flavorful food when an important person or tour is scheduled on campus. While there are a few things to do on campus, unless you have a car you have to walk at least a mile to the nearest store.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back to my senior year of high school with the knowledge that I have aquired about college life and making the transition I would advice myself a couple of different things. Being more organized would be one of them. I wouldn't have packed so much to bring to school, the rooms are not as big as I had thought they would be. I would also advice myself to start pushing myself harder in high school. The work in college is much different and is required to be done in a shorter amount of time. Always trustin in God, at first it seemed like college was something I just wasn't going to be able to accomplish, but in the end God was by my side the whole way and he never gave me any thing that I couldn't handle.

Someone that should attend Mars Hill college should only attend if they like small classes, small town living, helpful professors, paying well over 30,000 dollars a year, food that is on the bland side, and about 30 minutes from civilization. 35 students in one class is considered too many. The town is so small that there are only 15 stores on it's main street. The profeesors do everthing they can to help you pass their class. The tuition is way to expensive. The food could use an update and Asheville is where you go to have fun.
