Marymount is a small college. That is both a good thing and a bad thing. The good news is, every body knows each other. The students are familiar with each other, the teachers all know you, the staff, including the shuttle drivers, will always remember your face. The bad news? Everyone knows each other. If you get into some kind of scandalous drama at the dorms or somewhere on campus, everyone is bound to know about it. Everyone is going to know your name. Also, the new president that moved in in the Spring term of 2017 is making budget cuts left and right. He's focusing more on aesthetic of the school, but not on the education of the students. However, if you are a business or a psychology major, you're in luck because Marymount loves those types of students and makes sure they receive the best education possible. However, if you're an art student, besides majoring in photography, you should avoid this school. Marymount buys all sorts of equipment and has a ton of internships and opportunities for its photography students, but not for any other art major. With the others, the curriculum in general seems very basic, and you're not getting as much as much as you paid for in terms of education. I should also point out that besides photography, there is very little network here, so good luck getting into the industry!

My overall rating for this school is a 4. The campus itself is very nice, has an amazing view of Catalina Island, which overall gives the campus a nice aesthetic. The professors are always willing to help you when needed, you can either call, text, email or talk during office hours.

Kayla

Marymount has a great science department; however, there are a lot of problems with Marymount and if it weren't for the science department and the professors in this department, I would not be at Marymount. The class sizes are small so it is very one on one with professors which is really nice.

Marymount California University has a phenomenal view. It was love at first sight. The class sizes are great, which makes it perfect if you don't understand what's being taught. You could contact the professors and they'll assist you. There's also tutoring opportunity's. The environment around campus is a nice calm and suttle scene.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would prepare myself for the different types of people that I will meet. College is an enriching experience because you get to meet so many different people from different places with different experiences. I would tell myself to be open to new thoughts and experiences. I would also tell myself to keep my priorities in check and to not lose myself and my values amidst all the typical college partying and other activities. I would tell my high school self to not be nervous about the transition, but to be optimistic and excited. I would tell myself to stay strong and always persevere. I would also tell myself to not be nervous about meeting new people and to be open and willing to let others befriend me. I would tell myself that although it may not seem like it, it is possible to gain a lot of insight within the course of a year or two. Mainly, I would tell myself to always work towards my goals and to get ready for one of the most life-changing experiences of my life.

SUPPORT. One of the best qualities, unlike any other school that has guaranteed it's students "the free will to achieve and carve their futures". Students here have been given a second chance, coming from different backgrounds of all kinds, their applications here are more than an analytical overview only fit for standards. The best phrase to put my school is a lending arm, its faculty and students all our present only for one sole purpose... to become part of the dreams' the students have aspired to make a reality. I feel that my school ,actually, has kept its word.

  10. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

When I first started, Marymount called themselves the "Marymount Miracle". I didn't know what this was but I had actually witnessed this in my sister's experience here. Her attendance at Marymount is what influenced my decision to return to school. In high school she was a mediocre student but at Marymount she fluorished and became an honor student. I witnessed her transformation and I knew with the right help I too could be successful. I just completed my first semester and with their help I also had the best academic year of my life.
