What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Emily

If I could go back in time and give myself, as a high school senior, advice about college life I would say save up money, and sign up for as many scholarships and grants as possible. Especially the scholarships that require people to write an essay. I didn't sign up for many scholarships that required you to write an essay, because everyone told me I would be able to go to college for free based on my parents' income. That was my biggest mistake. Many high school students are told to apply for government grants through FASFA. The government doesn't have the money to help everyone. What I got out of FASFA was a few government grants under $3,000. I couldn't afford for college with that amout, so I had to apply for three government loans: Subsidized Stafford Loan, Unsubsidized Stafford Loan and the Unsubsidized Parent Plus Loan. This is just my freshman year of college, I have three years to go and I am already in debt about $ 20, 000. For the high school seniors out there I just want to say sign up for as many scholarships as you can.
