Way, WAY too expensive and then they waste your money. Horrible administration. The cheaper freshman dorms (McAuley and Baldwin) don't have pictures anywhere for a reason. (They're run down, moldy, falling apart, cold, They discriminate against minorities and upper level staff (up to the PROVOST!) gossip about students. If you have any allergies and health issues they tell you they will accommodate and make you special food at the Clean Plate (including jackfruit - which many are allergic to without knowing - and burnt tofu), but will blame you if you go into anaphylaxis and try to fine you. They were horribly unprepared for Covid-19 and forced all students to attend in person. If you have any sort of ambition in life, don't play sports, and aren't local - don't bother going to Mercyhurst. There's so much more that is horrible about Mercyhurst that I couldn't fit it in this review even if I wanted to. Shout out to Lauren Stafford in Financial Aid; she was the only 'saint' there. As for the handling of Covid? I took classes online. None of the professors wanted to teach online and constantly gave excuses not to so we ended up in class in person. Instead of treating this like a good thing (For example: sick/menstruating students don't have to COMPLETELY miss class) Mercyhurst put in place a policy that you couldn't miss class and go to the zoom without the Provost's approval (which was barely given even if you actively had Covid-19). If you miss class due to your period your grade is docked. Covid case numbers page was incredibly flawed and misleading. Someone would test positive and they would test them every day and take them off the numbers when they tested negative (which was usually 2-3 days after testing positive) despite the fact that people stay sick around 2 weeks even if they're testing negative. They did that just to keep numbers low - incredibly misleading. The "Covid Positive" count was down to like 4 despite the fact 46 people or so had tested positive in the past 2 weeks.

I think this is a great small community type school. Its rare to cross campus without seeing several people you know. The professors are always there to help with regular office hours and they are great at making appointments outside of that time to fit your schedule. Also the campus is always gorgeous, decorated either with plants or snow depending on the season. There is a party scene that's easy to enter into or to steer clear of depending on your preference. Whether you party or not, there is always something to do on campus, lectures or gallery openings, or concerts and performances, whatever you're into.

Mercyhurst is not very good. The weather is horrible, the teachers (except for a few) are pretentious and extremely brainwashed liberals, the people are generally fake and steal things, the partys are bad, the faculty is not very helpful, and the facilities are terribly outdated. The good parts about the school are that the school is pretty, some majors have good connections, and there are some pretty fun functions run by the university.

Alicia

The professors are amazing - they always have office hours, and even outside of office hours, they're often times available to help out and go over concepts that you don't understand. The food is pretty good mostly, and the dorms aren't terrible. Warde is much nicer than Baldwin and McAuley, but they're are livable.

  6. What is your overall opinion of this school?

Mercyhurst is in the category of small school, which is something that appealed to me when looking for schools. It has a great campus and its very pleasant to just walk around and enjoy the day. The campus is small and it doesn't take long to get from one place to another, for me this campus is the perfect fit! so far the classes seem interesting and I have taken a lot out of them, but haven't been too busy that I haven't been able to enjoy every day. One thing that makes this school unique is that its on trimesters meaning shorter terms but fewer classes honestly this is one of the best things about the school in my opinion.

  8. What are the academics like at your school?

At Mercyhurst, students are given a direct one on one style of education. We have relatively small class sizes; the largest I ever had was a class of 35 students. I once had a class with four students in it. My major is Political Science, and this is one of the many departments that prides themselves on getting to know their students. Every term the professors organize a dinner, and students are welcomed to meet and eat with their professors. It's nice to see professors taking extra steps to get to know their students. Many of our majors are very well known like Dance, Archeology, Forensic Science, and Intelligence Studies. We have great facilities that are always open to students to take full advantage of.

  11. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I knew more about the class requirements to graduate. We have to take many other courses not related to our major and that don't seem to have much relevance to anything else. Overall though I like most of the courses I have to take.

  12. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I believe the worst thing at our school is our lack of diversity. We have many foreign students, however, they mostly hang out with each other and no one else. It goes the same for the white kids, it is as if we don't want to learn about different cultures or lifestyles. I think if Mercyhurst allowed better ways for the different races to interact, diversity would greatly improve.

  14. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

At Merchurst I find the administration to be dificult to work with, especially the financial aid department. I have spoken to several other students and they agree with me. My financial aid advisor rarely returns my phone calls or emails, and after my dad lost his job the school did nothing to help us out financially after making my family fill out numerous forms and assuring us that something could be done.

  15. What's unique about your campus?

Class sizes are small so each student gets to be recognized and is known by a name, not a number and the teachers interact on a personal level with the students

  16. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

There aren't many stereotypes, but it is true that football players hangout together, dancers do. Alot of people with the same majors tend to hangout with eachother.

  17. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

There are tons of activities to do during the day here, there is a REC center, many clubs and organizations to be involved with and so much more. the only thing that I can think of that we don't have is a swimming pool. Every weekend there are events put on my SAC (Student Activities Council) or MSG (Mercyhurst Student Government). These events can be dances, comedians, movies, fear factor challenges or anything really! For Freshman There is one week called Welcome Week that is planned full of events for people to meet new friends, thats where I met my amazing new friends! There are always things to do here but honestly it gets old after awhile and the events are awesome but they don't last long and there is lots of down time!
