Can you please explain this? It sounds as if you are running an elaborate scam. Please help this go viral! No student or family should have to go through this. Coach Webber is asking for help for one of our very own Pirates, TC Cook. Everyone who knows TC loves him. He always has a contagious smile. TC was offered an opportunity to go to Mesabi Community College in Virginia, MN to go to school and play college football. All the appropriate paperwork was filled out and submitted with our guidance counselors. On our side everything was complete, and it was verified from the college that everything was good. TC was told he needed to come to MN , so he could pursue his dream to play college football. TC, his mom, sister and her one week new born and her three year child drove 21 hours from Georgia. TC was so excited about this life changing opportunity. They dropped him off last week at Mesabi Community College with other college freshman. They were all eagerly waiting to play college football there. Everything was all squared away, and the family drove 21 hours back home to Georgia. Three to four days later the Coaches informed 10-12 players they would have to take out a 5,000 loan to pay the rest of their tuition per semester. This information was never relayed to any of the students or their families. This was never mentioned to any of the players as coach Webber has talked to a number of them. They told TC and the other young men that if they did not take out the loan they would have to leave the campus immediately. This of course was an expense no one was expecting. He and the other 11 young men had to call their families and tell them they needed to get back home. Some of the young men began to sell their TVs, tennis shoes, and whatever other belongings they could, so they could try to get the money to get back home. The coaches would not even take the players to the airport which was over an hour away. The young men were not prepared to be leaving the college much less their families having to come up with the additional funds to fly back home. Coach Webber spent most of the night trying to find a taxi to come and pick up TC and take him to the airport. Uber and Lyft were not an option because it’s in a very rural area; they would not travel there. TC’s mom paid for a very expensive one way ticket for TC to get him home this evening. She had no other choice. TC had to sell his TV and mail his belongings home which was very expensive. With all of this stress as any parent can imagine, your child being stranded over 1300 miles away, TC’s Mom ended up in the emergency room with stroke like symptoms today. Thank God, it’s was just stress and anxiety. There are a number of kids up there in the same situation. Coach Webber has reported the School and he has been in touch with the news stations. We are asking for help as one of our own has been deceived and has had to pay out over 2,000 dollars (which they did not have) to make a dream come true that would never play out. If you could help, please reach our to Coach Webber, Liz Fordham Or Brian Hubbard no donation is too small. All donations are tax deductible. Please make checks out to PCH Touchdown Club and in the memo put TC in the memo. The address is: PCH Touchdown Club P.O. Box 1285 Zebulon, 30295 Or you can drop it off at the high school. If you cannot give, please keep the family in your prayers; this is been a very stressful and sad time for this precious family. The funds will go to TC’s mom Rosalind Fluellyn to help offset the unplanned cost.

Overall, Mesabi Range College is a great little community college to get started at. The class sizes and small, the instructors are invested in their student's education, and there are opportunities around every corner. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at MRC, and I would highly recommend it to others!

The nursing program at this college is outstanding! The instructors are always there for you even at 4am (trust me, I have utilized them in the wee hours of the day) and they're always willing to help you succeed! The classes are very informative and really get you ready for the next steps in nursing.

  3. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

To be on top of things. I would have told myself to be more organized, and how to study better. That is about it otherwise I thought the transition was pretty much simply. The professers lay down their rules and how they like things down so its pretty simply to follow.
