It is a nice school for being the size it is. The teachers/staff are very friendly, some have trouble replying back to emails other then that they are very good teachers. All of the students that attend there are very welcoming and kind.

Blue River is such a great school. I went to a four year school my freshman year because I perceived that community colleges were a waste of time. When I moved back to Kansas City, I applied to MCC at the Blue River campus and was not excited to be at such a small campus (as compared to a university). To my surprise, I found out that Blue River was actually better for me. At the university I was overwhelmed with all the people, activities and parties. But at Blue River everybody is focused on graduating. Even the teachers will go the extra mile to see you succeed. I have yet to have a professor that was only there for the money and not there to support there students. At Blue River you are required to take an introductory class called College 100. This class is meant to help incoming students know their way around the campus and know how to find different resources that they will need while attending the college. At first I thought it was pointless until I realized how beneficial a class like College 100 would have been at my four year school if they had made it mandatory. I also feel extremely safe at the Blue River campus since we have security guards and a whole police academy on campus. At my previous college we didn't have access to security guards but they would occasionally drive throughout the campus. In addition, it was an open campus so anybody could just stroll onto our grounds which made me really uncomfortable when I was outside. Although I had not seen it before, attending Blue River was the best decision for me during my college journey and I wish that I had done so before I went to a university.

It is a very friendly school and does really well for first timers by slowly bringing them into the college life. It is great to stay home and be able to get a small amount of college experience. They do offer a ton of friendly help and always have advisers on hand as well as activities for students to participate in. I would recommend MCC Blue River, especially for good first time college experiences.

I love MCC Blue River! I take online classes because of the distance from my house to the college, but I participate on campus when I can and the people and professors are great! Everyone is welcoming, and it's super easy to become friends with like-minded people! There's always room for intelligent conversation or conversation about things that don't even matter. No matter what, anyone can fit in on campus! We have Phi Theta Kappa (an honor society), the gamers club, a yoga club, and a Christian Bible Study club just to name a few... there's a club or organization for anyone! Plus, the food is amazing! When students come from other campuses they always comment on how good our food is compared to other school's.

    If I had the opportunity to go back in time and talk to myself as a highschool senior, I would tell myself to not be so sure of what i am doing. When I was in high school i had my mind set on being a firefighter. Since then, I have changed my career path several times. Had i known what I do know, I probably would have chosen to go to a four year college right away.

  3. Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.

    My school is conveniently close to my house in Independence. The faculty are all nice and very professional. It's one of the best schools to take undergraduate courses because they are all very affordable. They have an excellent library and students are allowed to use the computers that have wonderful online databases that are free to students and provide you with all you could need to write a paper. Lastly, the school is very nice in it's structure in that it doesn't take more than 3-5 minutes to go to from one building to the next.

  4. What kind of person should not attend this school?

    Someone who wants to meet new people should not attend this school. This school is great for saving money and preparing for a four year university, but there are no dorms where students live and get to know each other. Also the majority of the students come from cities close by and do not spend much time socializing at school.

  7. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

    I would consider the limited choice in majors and minors to be the worst thing about my school, simply because it prevents a wider spectrum of students from coming to study their desired career choice at a local school. If the college offered more majors/minors, local students wouldn't have to travel out of town or even out of state to study their choice of major.

  8. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

    To be honest the school is a much better school then i thought it would be. Community colleges are not just someplace where someone can slack off or expect a poor education. However probably the most frustrating aspect about my school, and about most community colleges, is the fact that you still have to live at home. To many people a true college experience comes from leaving home and living in a dorm, being somewhere new. A feeling of staying stagnant is a frusturating aspect of community college.
