Miami University-Oxford Top Questions

Why did you decide to go to this school?

Amy

When I walked onto campus, it hit me. It felt like a home-away-from-home, which is exactly what I needed. The campus is beautiful with its red brick buildings, and tradition runs wild. It was the perfect place to start a new part of my life.

Danielle

I decided to attend Miami University because I visited many other schools, the overall feel I got from Miami's campus made me want to go there. Not only was the schools campus beautiful, but I also got a sense of academic achievement. I could tell that I would have an amazing experience and an easy transition into college during my first year and immediately felt comfortable, which is very important when picking which school to go to.

Rachel

I decided to go to this school as soon as I set foot on campus. It was obvious to me that Miami could offer the "total college experience" and ultimately that's what I was looking for. I wanted a place where I could establish my independence while still feeling like I belonged to a community. This school has the appeal of a fun and exciting nightlife but is balanced perfectly by its outstanding academic reputation. In the end, I knew that Miami was the place for me because I felt comfortable and I was able to envision myself spending four incredible years here.

Shannon

I knew that I wanted to go out of state for college, and my dad and a few other family members knew about Miami and encouraged me to look at it. Once I visited, no other school compared to it, and I knew that I belonged here. I spent my entire childhood on the East Coast, and I think Miami has been a great transition because although it is located in the Midwest and has its own characteristics, there are also so many students that come from the East, that it is not a total shock of "culture". Even though I am far from home, I wouldn't have chosen another school.

The most obvious answer for why I decided to attend Miami University would be location. I live only eight miles away from the school--I grew up in and around Oxford. It's been a part of my family since the 30's when my great grandmother attended. It also helped that my brother graduated in 2010. He's the older brother that I've kind of always looked up to, so whenever he went to hang out on campus, I would want to go with him. That's really how I got introduced to the campus--walking around and having him show me all the buildings before going up to Skyline or stopping by You're Fired. But beyond that, it would have to be the academics. Miami is well known as a very academic-based school. It's not known for partying (such as OU) because a lot of the students in attendance are there for the Farmer School of Business. Education is the main goal of Miami. I mean, it also helped that John Harbaugh, one of my favorite people in the world, also attending my university--not gonna lie. Our list of notable alums is prestigious. But I could go on for days about things like this. One of the biggest selling points on Miami for me was the campus. I visited a few colleges around the area, but I didn't get "that feeling." Whenever I step onto Miami's campus, I get that feeling--that feeling of being a part of something bigger than yourself. It's reassuring, it's humbling, it's inspiring. And that's why I chose Miami.

Caitlin

I decided to attend Miami University because I thought immediately of my academics and where I would feel most at home. Miami's campus is absolutely gorgeous. Sometimes I just want to go outside and sit underneath one of our beautiful trees and get some studying done. I always feel so cozy in my dorm room, even when I just want to snuggle up to a good book or get on the internet... even taking a nap is incredibly enjoyable! Sometimes my friends and I will walk around campus just for fun because it is so beautiful! Academics at Miami were so important for my decision to attend. Being from Ohio, I have only heard amazing things about the school. Everyone I talked with is always impressed that I attend Miami University. This makes sense because the classes are very challenging, but incredibly fun! I learn something new everyday and I can't imagine being anywhere else.

Ronnie

I decided to go to Miami because it was everything I was looking for in a college. I loved the opportunities I was offered to get involved on campus; I loved the class sizes; the food is good and th students are friendly. The main reason why I chose Miami is that it is only five hours away from my home. I felt that this was far enough to enjoy college and close enough to return home in case of an emergency.

Jessica

I live very close to Miami and I have always heard excellent things about it. I remember the first time I visited the campus (in High School for some project where I had to find all these leaves from different trees) I was blown away by how pretty it was. I had several other universities in mind but at the end of the day Miami had everything that I was looking for in a college.

Liz

The first thing that made me want to go to Miami was how beautiful the campus is. I used to go here for band camp when I was in high school and I just wanted to go to Miami from the moment I set foot there. Then I learned it was an awesome school. That made my decision stick. I actually got denied twice, but when I got accepted on the waitlist I instantly jumped at the chance.
