Most of the staff and faculty I've interacted with are very kind and helpful. All of my professors have care and consideration for their students. However, the administration could use some work. Recently, something happened on campus that resulted in the death of a contract worker. The building it happened in was the only building closed that day. To me, it seems the higher-ups at the university have little consideration for the mental well-being of their staff, faculty, and students.

Fernanda - 11/13/2023

MTSU holds opportunities for all students with a range of offered majors. The campus is designed in a way where the farthest walk will be ten minutes away. Faculty and staff are kind and willing to help and answer questions despite the topic.

JASON - 08/18/2023

IT'S A GOOD CAMPUS, WITH A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES

Justin - 07/20/2023

Overall, I have a positive opinion of MTSU. For the past 2 years, I stayed on campus. The campus living situation wasn't to die for but compared to other institutions it wasn't too bad. I met a lot of great people at MTSU. The community and environment are refreshing, bright, and friendly.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I have learned a lot through my college experience in the realm of intelligence, but also in terms of wisdom as well. I feel that I have grown enormously in maturity since leaving high school in Chattanooga, TN. After my first year at MTSU, every last one of the friends that had travelled with me to MTSU had decided to return to Chattanooga for miscellaneous reasons. I enjoyed the university and had made plenty of friends already, so I did not follow them to Chattanooga. However, this made my sophomore year feel like a second freshman year as I made a point to make new friends. However, it was very easy at this school. People seemed to want to meet new people as badly as I did. The majority of the students were extremely friendly. I am a pre-medical student. I believe I have grown in intelligence greatly. I can always notice a difference between my understanding of particular concepts at the beginning and at the end of each semester. Also, the advising staff has really helped me put my best foot forward in terms of medical schools. Hopefully, I will soon be attending one.

  7. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

The campus is large and spacious without feeling so big it's overwhelming. There is very much a feel of attending a private university at MTSU, thanks to small classes and personal attention from professors. Also, there isn't hardly any discrimination amongst students for who they are, where they came from or what they affiliate themselves with. Granted, not everyone gets along all the time, but there isn't a particular group of students who is targeted and harrassed either. There is also a STRONG theatrical and music presence at MTSU, which is why I chose it.

  8. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Help from the finacial aide office is the thing i hate most at this school. If you call they are rarely friendly and they do not really help you out. If I need to take care of something that has anything to do with finacial aide i start take care of it months in advance. it takes weeks for them to call you back if ever do and when you visit the office they just give you links from the schools website that are suppose to help you.

Even though my school wasn't my #1 choice, I did choose it for specific reasons. 14. What is your overall opinion of this school?

MTSU is an amazing campus for student/faculty interaction. We, as in one entity and not an individual, swim in school pride. There are often controversial protests and statements of all kinds, but the point of the matter is not holding up a sign and pumping one's fist; it is the fact that we are allowed to pump our fists and hold that sign while voicing our opinion. The faculty gives the students absolute respect, and in turn our student body reacts positively and a symbiotic relationship is formed. There are need of improvements, after all: no campus is perfect. The major issue is parking, or better yet, the lack thereof. Students usually have to arrive about half an hour before their class begins so they will not be late. Yeah, it's that bad.

  15. What are the academics like at your school?

Most of the professors, despite some having a massive number of people in their class, will remember your face. Some will even go the extra mile and remember your name. What I find unique and appealing about MTSU is the diverse classes that are available for one to take. Everything from military science to yoga, the options rest at your finger tips.

  16. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

I cannot even begin to touch up or even describe the amount of activities MTSU offers. You want to go scuba diving? No Problem! How about Tai Chi? You like oriental martial arts? You can find it right here. You like climbing rocks? Whadda ya know! There are clubs and classes for that too! You will have to try not to fit in.

  19. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

Well the stereotypes of this school vary by where you are coming from. In Williamson county (Tennessee) the kids who didn't make the best grades went to MTSU. Everywhere else it is known as a great school for Recording Industry. I'm glad the stereotypes are good everywhere else because this school is great and deserves a great reputation.

  21. When you step off campus what do you see?

The city of Murfreesboro was built around MTSU. It is a fairly large city, in the top 10 by population in the state of TN. Therefore, when you leave campus, you are surrounded by signs, colors, and a variety of people. Also, it is not far from the state capitol, Nashville, and with a short 30-45 minute drive, you can have access to all that it has to offer also. In Murfreesboro, there is a million different places to eat. Most students frequent the movie theaters, bowling alleys, and night clubs. Especially the night clubs. Also, it is amazing at how connected the campus is to the surrounding community. MTSU students are frequently connected by completing various community service and voluntary acts around town. Citizens are constant visitors to the campus for athletic tail gating, games, and key note speakers. It feels like high school but on a bigger scale and with less drama.
