I wish I would have known that there is little help with pre advising for your career plans. The school is very unorgenized and it seems like weather it is the advising office or student survises the people are only there to work and not help you.
Knowledge of the student services would have been more helpful as a new student. Being a firtst generation, self-supporting college student, I would have appreciated prior knowledge of the Starting Point program offered at MCTC. This is not to say the service is poor; I believe there are so many students that it is hard to find programs for specific needs. That being said, I would have benefited from a notification that directed me to a programs directory upon my arrival. Instead, I stumbled onto the Starting Point progra throught word of mouth. Others may not be as lucky.
I wish I would have known how frustrating the Financial Aid department can be when you need them to do something. When I first started school I needed them to refax some loan documents and they said that the loan department had to do it. I wish I would have known that push back a lot more at first.
That you shouldn't be so worried about figuring everything out. College is the time you have to figure out what you want to do with your life. There is no other time like it, so enjoy it while you can. You can work for the rest of your life...but your only in college once.
