What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Robert

Life is about decisions and no matter what decision(s) you choose to make, follow through with it and see it all of the way until the end. Do not second guess yourself and you are not alone; you will always have support in your decisions as long as you are behind your own decisions. It is not about quantity, but the quality of what you say and/or do.

I would first tell myself to seriously consider what I wanted as a career and determine what it would take to get me there. I would tell myself to do research on the job market and how my career choice would benefit me once I graduated. I would tell myself to think seriously about becoming a teacher or something in the health profession. I would most importantly warn myself about the importances of credit and student loans. I would explain the benefits of finding scholarships instead of maxing out student loans every year. I would explain to myself about being careful about who I spent time with or who I gave my heart to because it could directly affect my future. I would tell myself to love myself reguardless of what others say about me and strive to be the best in whatever I decided. I would warn myself about taking my advices seriously. Finally and most importantly, I would tell myself to seek God, put my trust in Him, and attend church regularly.

Valerie

If I could go back in time to talk to my self as a high school senior I would tell my self to research every college in Mississipi to see which one is the best for myself although I didn't make a bad choice now. I would tell my self to sign up for as many scholarships as possible and prepare myself for the Act test because its free for high school students twice. I would tell myself to take advantage of every opportuny as I possible can and don't play around in school. I would also tell myself to keep my GPA as high as possible because it matter ans study at least 3 hours a day before taking time to do anything else. If I could go back in time to talk to myself I would advise myself to get play tennis and run track so I would have a better chance in getting a full scholarship and not waste my talent. I would tell myself that you only have one time opportunity to do this and that I would regret it when I get older and that I may really need that scholarship money later .

Marcella

The advice I would give to myself is Marcella choose you college wisely. Don’t just choose a school because someone else said that it was fun and great. They are only telling you that to probably trap you there and put you through the same stuff that they are going through. Find out more about the college, look more into it, and also don’t go where your friends go. This is your life. CHOOSE WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as senior, knowing what I know now, I would give myself some tips to make the transition from high school to college easier. Within this essay, I will discuss why. Having the mindset of never stopping until you graduate, being prompt for classes, and maintaining at least a C grade point average (GPA) will be necessary as you transition to college. Firstly, as you transition into college, if you stop college prematurely, it will be harder to regain the mindset to return and fully complete your program. Secondly, being prompt for classes is necessary and an indicator of your commitment and maturity. Thirdly, by maintaining at least a C GPA you will be allowed to continue in school. In conclusion, time and experiences are great teachers. Knowing what I know now, if I could go back in time and talk to myself as a senior, I would afford myself with the following advice: have the mindset of never stopping, be prompt, and maintain at least a C GPA. Do you agree that these tips will help to make the transition from high school to college easier?

Ranelle

If I were to go back and talk to myself as a senior, I would tell myself to "suck it up" because things get better. Attending community college for two years straight out of high school was financially worth it, and will open brighter opportunities to transfer to a 4-year university (LMU!) than if I were to from high school. I would also tell myself that everyone and everything must take a back seat if you want to succeed; friends, boys, work, interests, hobbies. None of those things will help you progress as much as your/my studies. Lastly, appreciate our family, and thank them for their support.

Valerie

If I could go back in time and talk to my self as a high school senior knowing as much as I know about college I would encourage my teenage self to get a job and put up 40{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}- 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of my pay check in a bank account for college. I would also study more and keep my gpa up so I could have gotten a scholarship. I would have encorage myself to take the ACT test . I would encourage my self to take challenging classes to prepare my self for college.

Rachelle

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, knowing what I do now about college life and making the transition, I would give myself very different advice than the actions I portrayed. I would have told myself to focus more and be prepared to be very indepent while being in college and handling my business on my own. College is very time consuming and it is up to the student to determine if he/she wants to either get a 4.0 or just barely pass every class. Its all about the effort you put into your work and how much your future means to you. These are the different words of advice I would have given to myself, had a known what I do about college now.

Charnecca

I WOULD GIVE MYSELF ADVICE ABOUT GOING TO COLLEGE IS EASY NOR IS IT HARD, IT'S WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT. GO TO SCHOOL TO GET YOUR EDUCATION. IF I DID IT SO CAN YOU!!! I DID IT IN FOUR YEARS BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO CLASS ON TIME, STUDYING, AND WORKING HARD. I PUSHED MYSELF TO WHAT I BELIEVED IN, AND I KNEW I COULD DO IT. NOONNE STOPPED ME, AND IF THEY DID I WAS NOT GOING TO LET THEM. IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT YOU WANT TO DO THEN GO FOR IT, AND I ENCOURAGE YOU TO MOVE ON UP FARTHER.

Micah

If I could go back in time and speak to myself as a senior, I would tell myself to attend Alabama State, Grambling State, or Langston University. I would warn myself about how boring and negative a lot of the people are on the campus of MVSU. I would tell myself to make sure I keep my grades up and not to get involved with anyone because it is just a waste of time and you can’t trust a lot of the women in this day and age. I would let myself know that I need to stay in the weight room and work harder and stay more disciplined in order to be a bigger asset athletically. I would definitely inform myself on how important it is to use money wisely and to save as much as possible. I would tell myself to make sure I talk to all of my professors after every big assignment and test and before midterms and finals to see where I stand in their classes. Then finally, I would tell myself to stay spiritually strong because at the end of the day the only one you can trully trust is God.

Kenric

I would take college very seriously from day one and not slack up due to friends and surrounding environment. I would study harder and instead of achieving the GPA that I have now I would be focused on a 4.0 so that when I grauduate I could and would be able to go to graduate school without any problem or hardships about tuition. I would talk to friends and classmates to let them know how important college is and how a degree would provide you for a brighter future as far as your career is concerned. Life is short and that we should take each moment seriously and not try avoid little things to get to the big picture. We sometimes have to have downfalls to undersstand the reality of life and the changes you will face in the future.

Uran

If i could travel back in time and talk to myself from my senior year of high school, knowing what I know about college life and making the transition, I would tell myself to not procrastinate on my school work. I would tell myself to get a job so that I could have some work experience. I would tell the past-me to hang out with your friends more often and be more sociable with others. I would say to play the video game less and work more on your drawing skills for the future. I would tell myself to stay on the Track and Field team because it is your last year of doing any activity for the school and that you will miss out on memorable days with the track team. I would tell myself to spend time with other people who have different personalities from what you are used to. The last advice I would give the senior me is to try the Cookies & Cream Pop-Tarts sooner because those are the most tasty snacks you will ever eat in college.

Brianna

The advice I would give myself as a high school senior would be less about college and more about life in general. I would remind myself that it gets better. Everything I'm going through will ease up and I'll be stronger for it. I would tell myself that the pain of my parents divorce and the abuse I endured won't be for nothing. It will make me a stronger and better human being. I would tell myself to keep my chin up and never lose faith. To value how important it is to love and be loved in return is to have endless value. I would tell myself to take advantage of every oppurtunity that can foster creativity and learning. That no matter what happens or what people do, or mistakes you may make, where there's a will there's a way. Most of all to my younger self I encourage patience, passion, and perserverance. Being a dreamer that chases lights at the end of tunnels is never a waste of time. Dreaming dreams must happen for them to come true, and hard work will help you along the way.

morris

The advice that I would give myself is to take the ACT as many times so that I could get a great score so that I would not have to waste time taking classes that did not go towards graduation. Also to look into as many school possible and to apply for as many scholarships as I possibly could.

Jelisa

I would have told myself to do more scholarships. To get physical ready to be perpared for life experience.

Reginald

I really wish I could do this, but I would take a senior year a lot more seriously on my work and test. I would have gone to all my class and did my best I would have taken my ACT more seriously also. During the summer I would have went to summer school so that i could be ahead in my studies and graduate early. I would have talk to some o the professors during the summer to see what i needed to prepair for this transition. I would have talk to my sister about how was her college experience and learned what to expect. I would tell myself to go into the transition knowing why you a going and to makem that your purpose and your only purpose. I would say just have fun but do not forget why your are there.

Quatesha

The advice that I would give myself is to make sure to have everything that I need for my dorm room from the refridgerator to the microwave, blow dryer, straightner. Fill out lots and lots of scholarships so that I wouldn't have to worry about fees and balances. I would tell myself to save every dollar, quarter, dime, nickel, and penny just to make sure I have enough money for school. I would also tell myself to becareful about who I make my friends as well as how close I get to my roommate or to take the time to really get to know who that person is so that there won't be any surprises. Lastly, I would tell myself to have fun but be careful!

Rodney

First, I would have told myself to search for all financial aid possibilities that your future college offers, because I went my whole first year through college, not knowing that they had scholarships that I could've applied for. Second, I would have told myself to prepare myself to expereince a little homesickness. When I had attended band camp the few weeks before classes started, I became incredibly homesick, and it was a feeling like I had never felt before. Part of that was because I was the only one in my high school graduating class to come to my current college. I had no family, friends or relatives in the area, feeling completely lonely. My assigned roommate did not come until after band camp. Third, I would have told myself to become educated on The Secret, The Law of Success, and The 11 Forgotten Laws. These resources have truly taught me that I am fully responsible for my life and how the things in which I desire can be attracted to me. My current goal is to graduate as summa cum laude, and I am willing to do whatever is required on my part to make this a reality.

I have been able to derive from my college experience that I am a competition to so many people out there. People who wanted the same jobs and opportunities I want. I learnt that for me to be the one for the jobs and opportunities, I must deserve it by the result of the work I put in to my studies now. I learnt that we can brag all we want but we can not fight result. Result is the out put of what ever we put into our livies. I learnt that for me to be out standing I must not operate in mediocrity. I learnt that I can not afford to be the best of the worse or the worse of the best but I must be the best of the best in order to stand out. My school has been valuable to me because of the quality of education being impacted onto me by professors who teachs with passion and the availablity of the state of the art technology in the right hands. In the hand of professors who have the knowledge and technical know how to use them effectively.

Kenia

I have gotten a new out look on life since I have been to college. I teaches you how to be responsible and independent. While in college your basically on your own with no one helping you. You make the grades so its up to you to do the work. I believe going away to college gives you a better out look and understanding of life. You meet new people and get to know a little about there background. Going to college is a great experience.

Sherry

If I was able to go back and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself to take as many hours as you can without being lazy. Try not to party so much as a freshman, be attentive and go to class everyday. Choose your friends wisely, and make sure they would be a positive influence and be beneficial towards your college decisions. Be sure to talk to your instructors and keep a professional relationship with them, so they will know you by name and face so they will know you are trying and is determined. Most importantly, take as much time out of the day to study and do your homework, and if you have any problems, contact a tutor.

Marvin

If I could go back and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself to continue the hard work from the previous years. I don't take anything back from my high school senior year.

Vonnie

Make sure that the college is based on your interests and what you would expect out of a college and not what other people want you to do because it is your education and you know yourself better than anyone else does

Sheltanya

In order to find the right college for you, visit the campus first, and get the feel of the atomoshpere. Always take advantage of your campus visits, and high days at the college of your choice. Some people seem to make that mistake of not visiting the campus first. I have met several people that have enrolled in colleges outside their states, and they were very unhappy with the atmoshpere once they made it on campus; because they did not check out the campus first. Also, freshman year is the hardest, so it is best to go out and make friends, to ease the transition. Always have your campus buddy, this helps to keep your friends and you stay safe on campus .

Inez

You should be yourself no matter what anyone say. You follow in your own foootsteps and choose your own direction. Most of all, the college in which you choose to be your best is your own choice. Also, the college experience is what you make out of it, not your family nor friends.

Erica

Be open-minded is the best advice I can give. Parents should help their child make a choice, but college is the first step to independence and therefore it is not the parent's choice on their child's final decision. Many students make the mistake of listening too much to what others say about their choice of in an educational institution. advice is just a guide, but the only way to make a good decision is to do your research, ask necessary questions, and really think to yourself about what you want out of your experience. The student makes college what they want it to be, not what others stereotype it as. If the student wants to make straight A's, wants to have a active social life, and wants to be involve in extra-curricular activities, THEY CAN!! They just must be open-minded!

Ashley

The advice I would give to parents/and or students about finding the right college and making the most of the college experience is to first and foremost, make sure it's the college/university you really and truly want to attend. Have a major and/or minor decided so you can take a look at that desired program of study. Make sure this college will challenge you academically so you will have one of the best degrees awarded.

Kantessa

When choosing the right college be sure that you take a visit. Not a visit to a big game or event, but a visit on a regular weekday. Alot of times students go on visits when there is an event and think that school will be like that everyday, when it might not me. I was one of those students that was brough on homecoming and was fooled. Also, be sure to get information about the major you are attempting to pursue and make sure it is accredited. Don't go by what someone has told you to get you to come, actually go to the department and find out for yourself. Be sure to check out the atmosphere around your campus as well, because if the campus does ever get dead, you will have something to do off-campus. Be sure to expect dorms as well as off-campus housing to see which is more suitable for you. Lastly, get opinions from students, alot of times faculty and staff will tell you what you wanna hear. A student will tell the truth about problems with financail aid or bugs in the dorm if applicable.

MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A VISIT TO THE SCHOOL

Passion

My advice to others who are looking into attending college is to first visit and find out information about the college. After they visit the college, they need to ask fellow students who attend that college to give their honest opinion of how they feel about the college as a whole, and are they completely satificed with how things are coming along with that college. Before leaving the college, they need to make sure that they are completely satificed with what the college have to offer, and to take others opinion into consideration. If they are going to be paying for college, they need to make sure that it would be worth their money.

Marcus

If your looking for a college make sure it's one that fits you as a person. There are many different schools to chose from , take a college tour to those that you many want to visit. Also, be willing to go in a new wnvirnoment as well. College is all about how you make it as a person.

Tameka

What advice would I give parents or students? I would tell them to let the chold choose what school they would like to attend. Don't push your child to a school that you once wanted to attend. Doing that causes the child to become dreadful of that school. They dont like the lifestyle thats out at that school.

Valencia

In my opinion, the advice I would give would be as far as parents wise, don't choose the college for them but help them make the right decision. As for students, they should make a choice that they can be comfortable with. Finding a college seems easy but you have to look more into it as far as it being a environment that you would like to be in . Also you should see if the have classes and majors that affiliate with the job you would like to have in the future. But college is just another step into making yourself better in the near future. You should most definitely make the most of it because you only get to live once and college isn't for everybody.

Mekia

Just pick the school that u would feel comfortable at. As far as the college experience, it is what you make of it.

RaChandra

The advice i would give students is go to the college that makes you happy. Make sure you are comfortable in making the right decision, not just going to that particular school to make your parents happy. College is a big step in growing up. You will gain life long friends and gain alot of knowledge. College is where you will start becoming independent and learn to make decisions that will help to mold your future. As long as you are focused in your coursework and learn how to manage your social life at the same time, college will be a blast. It will be an experience that you will be thankful for and never forget!

Alexis

When picking a college don't choose one just because of your friends. Its time to become a unique individual. Students shouldn't let anyone else pick for them. Remember that when you are in search look at the class ratio, the total student body, the campus size, the location and most importantly the cost. A school with a $20,000 a year tution will offer you a big scholarship but you'll still need multiple loans to cover the rest. So that school might not be worth the trouble. When you arrive on campus make friends and get involved. I know anyone can find a good friend on campus. Girls please be smart because some people prey on new students. Never take a open drink from anyone.

Carien

Visit the school before deciding on where to go. The school may to be to social, small or big, or just not feel right.
