Monroe community college is a great school to attend. Most people go for the big schools because they think just because a school has such a fancy name it means that you are smarter but that is not true. Being an MCC student is like finding a new home and a new family there the professor care about their students and want to see them succeed and on top of that they go out of their way to help students cover their tuition. there are also various activities and clubs that you can join all of which can help you achieve and build on yourself. MCC may not be harvard or Howard university but i would choose to go there any day and anytime.

It is a very diverse college with great professors. Although some students can be a little hectic but overall no complaints

Monroe Community College is a college in Rochester,NY that has a small campus in a way but who's students are so diverse ! The diversity is what i noticed first. Now let me first say i went all the way to Rochester from the BRONX (6 hour drive) So when i had seen it was one of the most top rated Community Colleges in the country i just knew i had to go here. I always wanted to begin college with Community. The dorming experience is great depending on who you are connected with. It's what truly makes the college experience special but i will say if you have a Roommate you don't like or are having issues with there are ways to act upon this appropriately. RA's can be a bit of party pooper at times if you are making yourself a target but hey i get it it's there job. Facilities are amazing ! I haven't even been to all of them but the Library is really a helpful friend if you need some alone time or really need to study. Again Overall i think MCC is a wonderful college but depending on the College student's mindset and or goals, it can make or break the experience.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I was to go back and talk to myself as a highschool senior I would tell myself not to listen to what anyone had told me about what college was really like. I would tell myself that it's not as bad as people say it is, and it's a really great experience. I would also tell myself that nobody is ever prepared to attend college, and no student is ever ready for the transition from highschool to college. The best way to prepare yourself for college is to start being independent in highschool and rely less on your teachers for the help that they give. It's very important to start relyng on yourself and what you're capable in doing.

  3. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about MCC is that the people attending don't go for the right reasons. Meaning, the people that recieve a good amount of money through financial aid, withdraw from their classes and keep the financial aid money. That isn't fair for the people that want to learn and really don't have the money to pay.

The main thing I brag about is that it's cheap and still high quality education. I came to Monroe Community College from Rochester Institute of Technology to better my grades and the best thing about it is that it is very cheap and the teachers are great.

  6. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish that I knew how great the teachers were at this school before I attended. I was afraid that since it was a community college, that all the teachers wouldn't care and wouldn't be as good as teachers at a four-year school. But I have found that most of these teachers cared more than most of my high school teacher. They are just wonderful.

My professors and advisors have helped me so much already to figure out what path I want to take in order to acheieve my career and further schooling goals.

  10. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about Monroe Community College is the location of my campus. I attend classes at the Damon City Campus of Monroe Community College, and it is located in the middle of Rochester. I had no choice in where I took me classes, because the Education Department is located in that campus. I have learned a lot about being in a city as I am a suburbs girl, but it is a little scary hearing on the news every night about the muggings and murders that have taken place close to where you go to school everyday.

  11. Describe the students at your school.

One sentence, I can do it in one word, diversity. The students here range from sixteen years old to seventy. Full-time, part-time or just here to audit a class, they're all here. You can walk sown the halls and see people of every skin color and hear several different languages spoken. The location of the college makes it possible for students to come from the inner city, suburbs and even the rual areas that surround us. The addition of on-campus housing makes it possible for exchange students to come here.

  13. What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about my school would mosy likely be the fact that for being a community college, it has so much to offer. I think this is the best because then students looking into all sorts of different programs can come here, and start their education while trying to find a 4 year school that they can transfer to that would be perfect for them.
