It was a great school to learn about and advance your artistic style. Wish there was more focus on academics and how to translate your art into a career once you graduate. Unless you make it as a gallery artist, they did not seem to focus much on what else you can do with your art.

This is the school I have chosen to attend and my views on it are still appreciative and grand. This is a wonderful choice I have made. The community in the school and around are exceptionally inviting and there is always something exciting going on. I immediately felt at home when I moved in. The classes are personalized and helpful and talking to the administration is comfortable and fun. I've only completed one semester so far and already my art has significantly improved.

Montserrat College of Art is a small school community of fairly sheltered people. There are professors here who are qualified and who will get you where you need to go if you show them you have a genuine interest in the arts, and the small class counts allow you to work more closely with these professionals. I do not doubt the faculty, but do I feel as though the overall quality of the student work here is quite poor. I personally believe that a college education is at least 70% up to the student, and Montserrat is a more financially responsible option for me, which is why I continue to invest in the college's programs.

This school would be better named “Montserrat College of Professors Who Play Favorites.” Be advised: it doesn’t matter how hard you work, it doesn’t matter if your work is always done on time and up on crit days, all that matters is how much the professors like you. In one of my classes last semester I turned in all of my assignments, had work up for all crits, and invested tons of hours/effort into my pieces. I got an A- in that course. One of my friends didn’t have work up for 4 of the crits, missed 4-5 classes, and didn’t do or turn in an assignment that was supposed to be worth 20% of our grade (they admitted this to me)... but they passed with a perfect A!!!! It’s really infuriating that you can work hard, meet all deadlines, and have better work than your peers, but get a worse because you won’t kiss ass. If you want to get A’s at this college, you just gotta brown nose your way to the top. I’m looking to transfer out this semester.

  8. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Prior to attending Montserrat College of Art , I was merely focused on trying to impress my peers with my artistic abilities. I wasn't as interested in producing work that had a personal connection, only work that I thought would gain the approval of my teachers. What I like most about Montserrat College of Art is that not only are students taught various artistic techniques that are beneficial, students are highly encouraged to produce the artwork they desire as long as requirements given within the classroom are met.

  10. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most fustrating thing about going to art school is the work. The fact is that the work you do is more quality then quantity. You can work about 5 to 7 hours on a self portrait and only be half way to where you want to be. For some thats alot , for art students thats a regular day. I'm an Animation major so needless to say I take alot of time to work on the things I love .
