The wide array of classes offered at Moorpark College provides a diverse range of options for me, and I have been able to take courses that match my interests and align with my academic goals. The ability to take online courses at Moorpark College is also a massive plus for me. The flexibility that comes with online classes has enabled me to manage my schedule and balance my academic and personal commitments effectively. It has also allowed me to take courses that may not have been available otherwise. Aside from the academic benefits, I also appreciate the welcoming and supportive community at Moorpark College. I have been able to form study groups with other students and get involved in campus activities, making my college experience more enjoyable and fulfilling. Overall, Moorpark College has been an excellent choice for me. I highly recommend it to other students looking to transfer or pursue their academic goals in a supportive and flexible environment.

Moorpark College is essentially the gateway to retirement for most of these professors. Most of the professors I've had throughout my first year have been absent or are not "present" in the classroom (mentally that is). I only give this school a 4 star rating because the students are the most active ones here and they put their all into every activity and club they can.

While I can't attest to the campus life at Moorpark College, I did take a psychology course over the summer and found the class to be very engaging. The class size was a little smaller than that of a typical high school classroom for comparison. Additionally, the professor was readily available via email if students needed any help.

I love Moorpark! It's given me so many opportunities. I was ashamed of going to a community college at first, but now I'm proud of where I go to school! The theatre department is incredible. The shows I'm doing and the things I'm learning are so in-depth and help me feel prepared to enter the industry. The facilities are better than the ones at some four-year institutions!

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time to talk to myself as a high school senior, I would have DEFINITELY kicked myself in the rear end before any talking would commence. My high school was always viewed as a great school filled with some of the smartest kids in the state, and I feel that I didn't take enough advantage of the oppurtunities that passsed my by - whether it was me studying a little harder for those tests, or taking advantage of all of the scholarship opportunities I wasn't motivated enough to go for. I would remind my former self not be so hard on herself and to just try her best, but to stay motivated even in tough times. I would tell her to raise her GPA as high as she could, to take on those scholastic challenges, and most importantly to plan and prioritize. Planning and prioritizing not with just school, but with life in general. Find your focus, find what you love to do, and go for it realistically. I would make it clear to her that she must keep her finances in order, tell her to use a planner! I was a little unorganized.

  6. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about my school would be the professors and how the school system works. Because it is a CC many of the professors are not as experienced or as professonal as those that provide lectures at a CSU or a UC. That being said the level of education that can be provided to a student is limited. The college system it is very slow and unorganized. The web portal for students is sloppy and it takes time to understand it. Also they dont believe in drop boxes and because of that turning in a paper takes hours.

  7. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

The expertise and styles of teaching some of the professors don't give themselves credit for is, what I feel, way above what any student could expect - much more than what I could expect from a professor at an expensive University. It's feels great to know that at Moorpark College, our professors are motivated by our success, not by the amount of students in their seats.

  11. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

I graduated from Cal State Northridge in 2008 and there were several frustrating things about that school, but the most would have to be the advisors. Instead of encouraging me to do my best they told me I should take fewer and easier classes so I would not burn out. If they simply looked at my high school transcript they would have seen that I can handle a heavy work load. Instead, they seemed to assume that every student at that school was an underachiever. Because of this and impacted courses it took me a year longer to graduate.

  15. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

Obviously, at a community college, there are going to be some people who say the entire school is idiots. I went in thinking I'd be surrounded by a lot of people who just didn't care. Actually, it was quite the contrary. There is a pretty diverse student body at Moorpark, and a lot of people are very focused. It's a lot like a second high school, to be honest.

  16. What is your overall opinion of this school?

If you're looking for a good transitioning school after high school whether it's because of grades or because of financial reasons, it's a pretty good school. It isn't really a "college town" area, but there are plenty of little areas to hang out, shop, or get something to eat. Parking can be a bit much to be honest, but it depends on the time of day. I personally wouldn't change my school for the world, and even though I'm transferring soon, I've truly enjoyed my time here.

  18. What are the academics like at your school?

Moorpark is one of the highest ranked community colleges in the nation. Academics aren't so ridiculously tough that you'll hate your life, but at the same time, there are definitely some challenges. I'd say you have to look on ratemyprofessor in order to find what is best for you. The professors I've had are all pretty easy-going and fun to be around. I'd probably hang out with them outside of class if I didn't find that a bit strange, but I visit past professors.
