Academics at Morgan State University vary depending on the student. For the most part, professors and students are able to talk to each respectfully and learn from one another. Most of my professors not only taught me what was required for the course of study but also how to apply that knowledge to real-life circumstances, such as getting a job, interviewing, and pitching myself. My favorite class that I have taken would have to be Media Criticism with Dr. Jared Ball. I am really into African history and Dr.Ball had a lot to enlighten me on in the area. He is a passionate professor and allows the students to interact and discuss situations in a conversational manner. It is very important that students participate in class. In most of my classes the students are competitive so for me it is necessary to speak up when I have to add to the class. I find that most of my professors like a student participates. I have had numerous conversations with my facilitators outside of class and that has helped me better understand them and perform better in their class.

Some professors really do care about their students and do by any means possible to help you both in the class and life itself. I've learned so much information that can help me succeed in my everyday life, just from teachers telling stories of life experiences. But there are teachers that simply don't care whether you pass or fail, its up to the student to take the initiative. I feel like Morgan's academic program is great when it comes to learning basic knowledge on a large number of subjects but when it come to actually taking major courses, its set aside until your last two years of college.

Since Morgan State University is a small school it is very common to be in a class size of 25 students or less. Most of my professors know me by name and I see them all the time around campus. Professors really encourage students to interact outside of class, while they utilize most of the class time lecturing and analyzing the course. In my electrical engineering department students always discuss about recent lectures in class and we often have debates about theories and concepts. At times students can be very competitive and it helps to motivate me to perform better in class and outside of class. Most of my engineering classes were demanding and rigorous, but there was always someone willing to help me as long as I was willing to put in the effort. My favorite class was Communication Theory taught by a professor named Dr. Astatke who recorded all his lectures so that we can go home and review them at our own leisure and he seamlessly taught the class using both traditional and modern methods. My least favorite class was microelectronics, which was structureless and forced me to teach myself the material. The education at the school is geared towards teaching students skills that are marketable as well as guide students to be capable of becoming life long learners.

I am a hospitality management major at Morgan state university, and I must say that I am more than impressed with the academics here. My professors are professional and so are the students. All of the professors that I have had so far (I am in my junior year) have wanted me to pass their course and they were willing to help me in any way so that I can to do so. Class participation is usually more than welcomed in the classroom, professors are interested in feedback. There are numerous tutoring classes throughout campus, including in the dorms. Walking in the library you may also notice study groups in session preparing for presentations or exams. There are students that want to help you so that you can help each other! Professors also have office hours to help you as well and even when you cannot make an office hour, you can set up an appointment to meet with them so that it does not conflict with either of your schedules. If you like having a more personal connection with your professors, Morgan is defiantly the place for that. I have not had a class where the instructor did not have a clue what my name was. Professors do know your name here, even if they just remember you by your last name, I find that better than not knowing who I am at all.

Academics here very rigorous! Here you are given the choice to either receive an education or waste your money. Fourtanely for Morgan State many students choose the first choice. Certain professors will go the extra mile, and help you, but others will push you and make you help yourself. Here at Morgan State you receive life lessons through academics. The conversations on campus vary from intellectual ones to pop culture ones. Each departments push the students in their major to be the very best and compete against the very best. Receiving an education at Morgan is not only geared towards getting you a job, but getting you a job and keeping it. Many students after graduating receive job offers through internships they acquired here at Morgan State. Academics are what you make it. If you don't study do not expect to pass.

Academics are very important here at Morgan State University. The thing I love about Morgan State is that its a college that has gave a lot of students second chances. When other colleges may turn their back or just "shun" students away Morgan takes these students and puts them in summer classes or programs to up there GPA and bring them into the university. The professors here do know your name, the student to teacher ratio here is very good. We have small classes no more then 25-30 students per class which makes it great when you need help. Since I am a biology major, all of my science geared courses are my favorite. I feel like the courses I am taking will prepare me for a great career in the science field when I graduate this spring.

Teachers are more likely to assist students who take initiative in class participation, displaying their study habits, visit during office hours, and put forth their best effort in assignments, but will also encourage those who struggle, yet have greater potential.

Since Morgan State University is a small institution the class sizes are small, this allow 30 students to a class and allow the professor to know each student name. Favorite class is nutrition and least favorite is math. Students’ study often considering the library is always in use and from experience majority of the people I talk to on campus are always busy with some type of assignment. Class participation is common among my peers, which in sense creates a competitive atmosphere. Considering that the professors are open it makes the student comfortable to want to actually hang out with the professor and utilize him/her as a mentor. One unique class that I have taken at Morgan State has been SPH-101, which the teacher made interesting my interacting with the students more than teaching. My current department is Family and Consumer Science, which is quite an interesting major and department considering the staff are always helping students in any way they can.

Well anything worth having is worth working for right ? Academcs at MSU are great . Teachers will know your name and help you if you need help . There are free tutoring oppertunities in and out of the dorm . There are summer catch up programs where you can take a certain amount of credits FOR FREE! My major is Biology because i want to be a brain surgeon and yes , it is a very trying major . I had classes from 9am -9 pm and it is hard . They prepare you for a career And even will help you get one . just make sure you have everything in order and stay on top of financial aid department and bookstore sales.

i'm a engineering major and i feel like its pretty tough just like it would be at any other school. nothing changes because we still have to study t he same amount of hours just like everyone else, we have to take the same amount of math class etc.

The academics at Morgan State University are great. The teachers do work with their students to know them personally by name. The class sizes are good to the point where there is a max of 25-30 in most classes. Some classes have more and some have less. Overall the teachers are equipped and skilled to learn their many different students in a short period of time. I can not say that I have had a least favorite class. I know that science and history is not my strongest subjects. However, at Morgan, they hire teachers that are passionate in their fields. Regardless if you did not like a subject, when you have a teacher who is passionate about the material it is easy to learn and to actually enjoy what your learning. Students are studying all the time. At any time of the day you can catch students in the library from sun up to sun down. During midterm and finals week you will see a lot more students utilizing the library and the service hours are increased for those reasons. However, Morgan State University has many different computer labs on campus that can be used so there are many places where students can study and print. Because the class sizes are relatively small, the teachers do require and want students to actively participate in class. When you participate you honestly learn more about the topic at hand and the subject overall. It is easier to understand the class and pass with flying colors. The students do realize this and many students participate in class discussions. Definitely on Morgan's campus will you find students have intellectual conversations and debates outside the classroom with other students and faculty. The students are abreast on the activities that are happening on their campus, in their community, and around the world. Many students and organizations, therefore, hold many forums to bring light to issues from around the world. The students are competitive when it comes to things on campus. I would suggest to be yourself and always bring your A game. I am in the Sociology Department and it is a great department. The department has faculty that truly care for their students and immerse them into the career through forums, excursions, and hands on training. Because the teachers are so caring I do speak with a hand full of them outside school via cell phone and Facebook. Our school, from others stand point of view, has low requirements in terms of getting into the school. This is because Morgan State University wants to give all the opportunity to attend school. Once you are a student, you must do your work in order to stay in. Like any school you have to care about your work and do good in order to succeed. Morgan State University has an educational program that gears its students to get ready for their career and getting a job. There are so many programs and events that happen on campus that gives students opportunities for internships, jobs, and career experience.

Our programs are extremely rigorous. I know all my professors by name and class participation is common especially if students want to do well. Most teachers try to incorporate participation into their grading to get students to interact. My department is political science. It is very intense and requires a lot of time and hard work. I make sure that my face is well known in the office so that professors know that I'm interested in doing well. My program makes sure that we are well prepared for the business world.

My favorite class as a psychology major was Theories of Personality. The course was very interesting and thought provoking. Like any school, you have some students that are more involved then others. I enjoy the smaller classes versus the auditorium size classes at some universities because it gives us the opportunity to interact more. Professors hold students accountable for their actions and are readily available when needed. It is up to the student to take advantage of the help offered. Academics are good at my school, we have very knowledgable professors. They are supportive and want all the students to be successful in life. The information I have recieved from most of my professors have been life changing, in the sense of changing the way I think in a good way. The professors are very wise, honest, and understanding. Though this is not the case for all the professors I have taken, I can honestly say I have never had a teacher I couldnt talk to, especially if I was having trouble in the class. Most people at Morgan go in undecided and will have the one special teacher make them realize that class they are taking is something they would want to make their major. Every teacher that Ive had has been fair, though some required much more effort and attention then others. Classroom sizes are no more then 30 people at the most so the teacher will definitely know your name, especially teachers in your major so you will feel comfortable and not like another face!

Morgan has a wide variety of academic programs. Professors at the campus want to get to know you because they want to help you succeed. My favorite class is honestly any of the music classes. My least favorite class would have to be any of the math classes. Students at Morgan State study very often. In fact, the library had to be made open a full 24 hours because of the high student demand. The most unique class I have ever taken at the university would have to be my speech class. It's very unique because it is definitely a class that forces you to think about everything and analyze things in a different manner. My major at Morgan State is Music. The Murphy Fine Arts Center is a building full of people with incredible talent. It is definitely a building anyone should check out during their time at Morgan. Some of the academic requirements I would be fine without, but nothing too big to really complain about.Depending on how seriously you take learning will depend on how the school is going to help you in finding a career.

The academics at Morgan can be challenging if you do not apply yourself by spending time studying or seeking a tutor. Morgan offers a plethora of majors and classes to study. This past semester I elected to take a Chinese 101 class. It was somewhat challenging learning a brand new language but my professor was very helpful.

Class participation is a large factor, and in many cases can determine whether or not the material being introduced by a professor is understood and is also a great way to indicate to professors that you are making a concerted effort to learn and improve (the stupidest question is the one not asked). Morgan State's academic requirements are adequate, because it allows prospective students that may have been refused admission by other Colleges/Universities a chance to prove to themselves that they can achieve success, and many situations, all it take for someone to succeed is a chance that was given to the individual. I am a Civil Engineering Major in the School of Engineering. The course work is very challenging and therefore enables each student to perform at their very best. The faculty/staff within the department are very helpful and are always available to meet with students in an effort to resolve any issue or to simply offer a helping hand. The education offered to students within the school of engineering is well balanced and is geared towards allowing each student perfoming at their utmost best within the corporate world.

Most class sizes range from 15-20 students (general classes sometimes being 25-30), with work given out in a clear and concise fashion. Syllibi are given in a timely basis with due dates for assignments clearly stated. Sometimes a due date may change but a student is given ample notification. Professors will know each of their students which makes class participation all the more common. This in turn can spark a competitive fire amongst students. This may include debates within a class or a simple meeting of the minds outside the classroom, in a more casual setting. MSU is perparing its students for life AFTER college by applying real-world scenarios on an everyday basis. As a student you will not be giving simple problems that can be solved by basic memory or rote memorization; you will have analytical come to a conclusion that will test all of your cumulative learning that has led you to the point in your academic career your are at.

All my professors know my name, I am an A student in the top 5{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of my class. All architecture classes are my favorite. I love design and exploring new ways to solve problems. My least faorite was math because there was a language barrier between the teacher and the students. I think most students study a few nights a week and when neccesary for a test. In my field of study class participation is common. Yes, the students I have come in contact with do have intellectual conversations outside of class. In my major students have to be competitive or else you will fail to succeed. I lvoe my design studio class. We have free range to explore and problem solve within the reigns of our projects. My major is architecture. I love architecture so it is a perfect match. Most of my professors are great and I am able to express my opinions to the teachers, and administration with ease. The academic requirements are up to par with other schools, it is the content within the general education classes that are below par even comparing to community college level classes. In my major our learning is geared towards both. I think we are missing a crucial part of learning through the program which is neccesary for obtaining a job post graduation, or any internship.

I am majoring in Nutritional Sciences at Morgan State University because I want to educate people on achieving life longevity by maintaining healthier life styles and food choices. I study everyday at least for one to two hours and weekends study time is about four hours per credit hour. I have spent a lot of time with some of my professors to get extra help during their office hours when I didn't understand some of the things they taught during classtime. My favorite class is Biology because I have a huge passion for science and my least favorite is math due to the fact I've always had an issue understanding. I think any student that takes their education seriously is very competitive because achieving their degree is a goal they want to reach.

Academics are good but can always be improved. There are a lot of programs designed to tutor students who need help in different classes; CASA, AYP (Academic Enrichment Program) and many more. There is usually a tutoring room in almost every department. Almost all my professors know my name because I participate a lot in class. The school also requires professors to have office hours which enables students to go see/talk to them outside from class. While most students study everyday or at least 3 times a week. Professors encourage class participation and if you don't understand a part of the lecture, you can also ask questions. My favorite class so far has been soccer and volleyball because I had fun playing in class/the gym. My major is Nursing and the department is working towards getting the program accredidation. The most unique class I've taken is "Marriage and Family Relations", very good class! I learned a lot from t!

Morgan State University boasts of a number of academic disciplines ranging from natural sciences, to business and the liberal arts. Most famous of all, is the school of engineering. Morgan State is rumored to have a highly reputable engineering program. Most students joke that it is a university of its own, since its protocol is usually vastly different from the norm. One of the great things about Morgan State University is its dedication to academic excellence starting before students even begin to attend the University. There are usually a great variety of programs which take place over the summer. One of such programs is the CASA Academy (Center for Academic Success & Achievement). The program is targeted towards recent high school graduates who did not achieve high enough scores on the SAT. These students are given the opportunity to spend 6 weeks on the college campus, being instructed and tutored in general education courses. At the end of the six weeks, they are then tested on those subject areas, and if they pass, are accepted into the university in the Fall. One of the most interesting classes I have taken is Communication Campaigns. As a Public Relations major, it was one of my core requirements. Instead of regular note & textbook classes, the entire semester consisted of actual, professional-grade work. The class was divided into groups of 4-5, and each group was asked to find a local business or organization that needed publicity or campaign management. At the end of the semester, grades were award based mostly on the clients' opinion of the work done. Education at this school is definitely geared at the cultivation of professional skills. It is quite evident in the mode of instruction, and the many opportunities available in the form of internships, research programs etc. The university's Center for Career Development makes every student sign up and submit a resume to the eBear system. Every time there is a job or internship opportunity, emails are sent out to those who match the descriptions of the skill sets required.

I am a biology major and aspiring pharmacologist. Academics at Morgan are very rewarding if you are willing to set time aside to study and actually learn the material. The education at Morgan is definitely job-oriented, and students are competitive in that they all have goals and aspirations and are very determined to be the best.

Most professors at Morgan State University know you by first and last name. My favorite calss would have to be HBSE, Human Behavior in Social Environments, where studies are based on our behaviors as human is groups communities and etc. My least favorite class would have to be chemistry. Students study rates are based on the individual student. Some students take advantage of the library, research labs, and computer labs by using them atleast a few hrs a day, while others do not. Class participation is very common and in some cases a large portion of your grade. At our university we stress that our students are competent in the field that they are studying by participating in class. You may often find students debating or entertaining intellectual conversations in the Student Center or outside along the courtyard. Our students are very competitive as far as learning and uniquely we work hard together to make sure we all succeed. My department is The School of Social Work, which is one of Morgan's best schools in the university.The School of Social Work is a school that focuses solely on the advancement of our society, We serve as change agents for an ever changing urban and suburban environments, helping infants to elderly we leave no person unnoticed in society. I spend time with some professors after class with community outreach programs and volunteer projects. I feel that the academic requirements for Morgan State are above standards and allows equal opportunity for all types of students to attend. I would say that the education here at Mogan is geared around educating students to be fierce competitors in the job market. Morgan is a great school for networking also so is very easy to get great jobs after graduating.

I am a chemistry major and it is important for me to be able to ask as questions to gain complete understanding of what I am learning. The professors are easily assessable due to the class sizes. I have never had a class of more than 30 people. The cirriculum is also challenging There are many places that I study at school. One of these places is beautiful library on campus.

Academics at our school are very well known. Professors know by a first, last and even nickname basis. This is not a bad thing. Teachers love when you interact in class discussions and participate in class. Whether it be asking or answering questions, they will remember you by what you say not how you look. My favorite class was Sports Journalism because I love to write and sports is my first love, so together they make the best ever made. My least favorite class is Math because I am not good at Math at all. Student studying is based on the student. Some students love to study, some love to party. Some even love to both, but make sure you know what your main priorities are. Students are competitive only in certain classes, but most of them will try not to show off unless they are trying to impress the teacher. The most unique class I've have taken is Law and Ethics because I learned a lot of new information that I never knew about. Although it was one of my hardest classes ever, it taught me a lot of information that I can use in the future. The Communications department probably has the best faculty, staff and students. We all are very social people so we know how to communicate and get along well with others. The faculty is also great. They want to succeed so they will help you out with anything you need, and I mean anything. I have gone to professors to ask them about not only class work, but also internships, scholarships, jobs, credits, and even some personal things. The academic will take time to obtain and may seem hard to do at times, but in the end it will all be worth it. The education is aimed for you to foloow your dreams and be successful in the future.

The academics here at MSU are great. I am a marketing major, but I have a twin brother who is a communications major so I can really speak towards both of those. The Earl G. Graves School of Business is really fantastic. The professors are able to accommodate to you as a person, before to you as a student. It really helps when you are just having personal problems like all of us do and you just need somebody to talk to and give advice. The best class I have taken so far was my business writing class. We covered everything and the professor was able to apply a lot of subjects within the classroom to things that happen in the so to speak "real world." Within my major a lot of the classes you take, you will be placed in a group to better prepare you for how business is done within fortune 500 companies. A lot of these groups you are placed in will end up becoming close circles and you will maintain a friendship with the students after the classes. I know of some groups where the students actually ended up going into business together because they worked so well together within the classroom. Now the students that major in communications are really like family towards each other. The faculty over there are very nice and will help you with anything pertaining to life. They are very knowledgeable to the right equipment to use for any projects you have whether it is pertaining to class or not. The faculty does have equipment to provide such as cameras, tripods, etc. that you can rent out from the university. Overall the majority of the students here at MSU are here to learn and compete within the classroom. The education provided here at Morgan is just not here to tell you how to get employed, but how you can take each lesson and apply to your life out of college. I recommend a four year institute to any one looking for higher education because it is the best opportunity to grow, mature, and created key relationships with friends and future business partners.

My major is Biology and this is my last semester here at Morgan. I plan to attend Graduate School to obtain a Ph.D in Microbiology and Immunology. I have had a privilege to be apart of the MBRS-Rise program which was affiliated between Morgan State University and NIH. The experience was informative and fulfilling. However, I wish there were more experiences available for Juniors and Seniors. I have learned to become opportunistic and to not put all of my eggs in one basket by branching and researching other programs although they may be in other states.

Coming into school as a freshman there can be a lot of obstacles and challenges. I think Morgan makes that transition easy when it comes to academics because they don't even give you the opportunity to say "I failed because I had no help". There are a great variety of tutoring, counseling and academic options to help keep you afloat in a world that is brand new and often difficult. Morgan has a great array of students willing to help their peers in any way possible, so you are never alone.

I study at least 4 hours everyday, Yes class participation is very common in morgan state university. yes students meet a lot outside the class to discuss assignments and study together. Yes students are very competitive in Morgan, The Most unique class is Morgan state university. I am a Information System Major and a Business Administration Minor. I spend time with professor outside the class sometimes if there is need. I feel very motivated about my school's academic requirement. Education at my school is geared towards getting a job and learning for its own sake too.

I am a 4th year, Hospitality major and I can say that our major lives and breathes our industry! Our professors are very personal and classes are usually pretty small (about 15-20 people. What is most special is that the professors make a point to know who you are. They work really hard for us, searching for competitions for us to become involved in and mandating academic excellence from us all. Their office hours are usually always available when students need them and you can even pull a professor aside to discuss matters outside of the hours. Students are pretty competitive at Morgan. We strive to make the best of one another by challenging our classmates and even our professors (to a degree). Finally, all of our professors have worked or are still working in the industry, so we really benefit from their real-world experiences.

Academically, Morgan State University is the best place to study. The professors are so wonderful and they are all willing to help students outside the classroom. As an accounting student, i spend most of my times in the school of business and i know most of the professors in the school and they all know me too. Anytime i have problems understanding a concept in class, i just go to see the professor. All students compete to get to the top of the class and class participation is very common especially in business courses.

Morgan State is known for excelling in not only sports, but academics as well. Morgan State produces more black engineers than any other college in the state of Maryland. Being an Electrical Engineering student, I can definitely say that the engineering program is by far the most challenging program that I’ve been a part of. As an electrical engineering student we must complete 134 credits to receive a bachelor’s of science. Additionally, Morgan state provides assistance to their students with job fairs each semester to help students further their careers. Moreover Morgan states is also praised for its renowned classical choir which has travelled the world (Russia, China, and Europe). Morgan state’s classical choir has sung for the president’s inauguration celebration and many other significant events.

The academics at Morgan State University is a strength Morgan has over other schools. Morgan State is not a huge school, It only has about 13,000 students. This allows for students to have great relationship with their professor. The professors at Morgan State also keep an eye out for their students. Most of the professors push you to succeed and will relay any oppurtunity to you to allow you to succeed. Class discussions will often lead to students linking up outside of class to take advantage of oppurtunities. Students will all go to the library together outside of classs to fill out applications for internships that a professor has just told them about. Some students take advantage of this, some do not but it can not be blamed on the professor if they do not. Most of the professors do the thier job well but ehre are some that do not depending on your major. Students in the communications department can often run into some hiccups due to the lack of equipment available for productions. This can offer some unique situations where students will improvise to accomplish what they need to have done. It can allow students to gain a real world experience of how it be to work a job outside of school. The academics at Morgan is competitive among students. A walk through campus can offer a debate about who has the better grade point average or who did better on their presentation. This pushes students to do better academically.

The academics at Morgan are Good , I must say that if you as a student is not invested in your own education then most professors aren't going to hound you. At morgan you have to introduce yourselves to your professor make sure they know you name and know your face. Once you get in their face and get concerned with your classes they see your initiative to be a good student. Morgans academics are geared towards the world around us. It is a HBCU ( Historically Black College or University ) so most of what your major is wi be focused on the area and working with the African American communities. I am a sociology major and I must say that my sociology department is amazing they are a close knit department and they work together with the teachers and students to make sure that each student excell , teachers have set office hours and they do meet with thevtudents outside of class time. The academic requirements aren't unaccomplishable and they are easy once you get into the swing of things.

The best thing about Morgan is the campus life and the amount of pride the students have for Morgan. One thing I would change about Morgan is more awareness between schools which would in turn create more collaborations between majors. The size of Morgan is just right. There are students that you could see multiple times a day as well as students that you may see one time a week. Either way you could meet a new face everyday. When I tell individuals that I attend Morgan numerous amounts of reaction come my way. Some ask, "Why did I choose Morgan?" others say, "I hear they have a good Engineering program." Either way it seems many people are aware of where Morgan is and what it has to offer. During the semester, I spend most of my time within my research lab conducting Undergraduate research tasks. Morgan State is not necessarily a college town for the simple fact that we are surrounded by 4 other colleges (Towson, Loyola, Johns Hopkins, Steveson, & Coppin State). The administration at Morgan State is fair yet caring, they have no intention on seeing a student not have their problems solved but sometimes timing creates more problems. The most recent controversy on campus has been construction and navigating through campus to your respective building but through time has gotten fairly better. Morgan State has an excess amount of pride especially for their football and basketball teams but also for anything that involves Morgan away from campus. There isn't really anything unusual about Morgan its your typical Historically Black University. One experience I will always remember about Morgan is Homecoming and how it bring so much people together for a various amount of events in the span of one week. Frequent complaints students have about Morgan are security, safety, and compromising on financial arrangement.

The school academics at Morgan State University are intense. The class sizes at Morgan are small enough for students to build a personal yet professional relationship with their professors. My favorite class is usually based on my professor. If I have a great professor, then I identify that class as my favorite class. This makes me change what my favorite class is every semester. Students at Morgan study often. There are many private group sessions that occur off campus. Class participation also occur often. The classes are too small and interactive for a student not to participate. Students are Morgan are very competitive and persistent. If a student does not succeed the first time, they will continue until they have reached their goal or mastered that skill. The most unique class I had was my independent study class. My professor designed a class that gave me hand on experience in my field. It seemed more like an internship than a class and I loved it. My major is health education with a health promotion concentration. As a health education major, I promote health and wellness to the Morgan State student body through health presentations, forums, health fairs, demonstrations, games, and consultation. My major is under the Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance department. My department is smaller than other departments. We are like a small family filled with mentors and successful leaders. I do not spend time with my professor outside of class unless I have schedule a meeting with them. The professors in my department have set personal boundaries for students that are understood and respected. I feel that my schools academic requirement allow high school graduates a second chance to change their life, for the better. The education at Morgan definitely prepares you for getting a job. By junior and senior year, most students become very hands on their field. They begin to network, look and participate in several internships, and are usually offered a job after graduation.

Academics at Morgan are top of the line. We have a brand new 65 million dollar library that provides students with 3 floors of computers, study rooms, and study space. Our library is also contracted with other universities in the area (Johns Hopkins University, Towson University, etc.) so that if Morgan does not have a book the student may need, we can still go to these other universities and utilize their libraries. Each professor at our university has office hours where they set aside certain times during the week to offer additional assistance to any student that needs it. There are also numerous tutoring locations on campus that offer assistance to the students. Some are even located in the dorms so that students do not have to leave their residence hall to get the help they need. Class sizes average at about 18:1, so the classes are small enough for the student to learn effectively and get to know their professors. The academic requirements for Morgan are very reasonable (2.0 GPA, 850 SAT, or 17 ACT) and we still offer other bridge opportunites for students who do not meet those original requirements. Aside from just following the curriculum, adviors and professors provide the students with numerous career and internship opportunities. Academics at Morgan are one of the kind, everyone may not enter our university a scholar, but we provide resources for you to leave as one.

As a first semester sophomore entering into the core of my major, I have realized the importance group study and a good relationship with one's peers. It is always to my advantage since most of my professors know me by my name. I breezed through my first semester in college, however classes are now getting tough: the higher you go the tougher it becomes. It is really ironic but my favorite class so far is HEED 111 - Health Education Honors. I have learnt so much about holistic health, nutrition, wellness and diet. It is an evening class but that is by far my favorite. My most unique class so far is Oren 104 Orientation to Engineering; I learnt the fundamentals of engineering and inculcated lots of skills that will be usually during my 4 - year bumpy ride through college. My least favorite class was chemistry, it was really frustrating, I just could not understand the concepts, got a "B" on it after toiling for several hours at night. I'm just glad that was the only chemistry class I was required to take. Competition really depends on the courses. During the first semester of my first year at Morgan, I perceived that students lacked enthusiasm for their academics because I lead with "A's" in 4 out of 5 my courses without competing with anyone. However, as a second-year student I see so much zeal and determination in students. In my engineering courses there is a lot competition, I have to work extra hard to keep in pace with the other "A" students and stand out amongst the geeks in class. I love the Clarence M. Mitchell Jr. School of Engineering. I started research has a freshman and ever since then my ambition to become a connoisseur in engineering has sky rocketed. My supervisor is very helpful and much more like a mentor and friend to me. The faculty I spend time most with is my mentor at the Office of Student Retention I could just stop by anytime to chat with her or update her on my school work and campus life. My academic advisor is also a good friend of mine, it is thrilling to be able walk into his office and discuss about my progress in my academics. In addition, for students who love to work while schooling that will be more demanding but it is worth it. In general, the educational requirements in Morgan are appropriate and sufficient to train one for life after school and enable one get a befitting job after college. The learning process may be rigorous but is well worth it.

It could be just my small window of experience, but it wouldn't hurt the University Honors Program to stretch our brains a bit more. Some of our expectations and assignments are borderline remedial. For instance, I understand and commend having a math class just for Liberal Arts majors (a.k.a. those of us who see a decimal and run in the other direction). Yet, allowing students to turn in homework for credit AFTER reviewing each problem in class? Unheard of. My freshman year standard Algebra 1 teacher would laugh if I told her that. Additionally, the tests in Honors World History 111 are all online, and open book. I haven't delved into the courses within my major yet, but I hope they will be more challenging, and will hold us to our gold standard as Honors students. As a student in the Graves School Honor's Program, we are encouraged to make a commitment to being a leader in everything we do. Part of that is actively participating in our own learning process. I make it my duty to ensure my professors know who I am beyond just a name on the roster. I ask questions and submit assignments on time. When you make an effort to be an exemplary student, it is always recognized and rewarded. What I also appreciate about the Graves Schools Honors Program is that unlike many schools, our learning is geared towards finding a job or having a spot in grad school before the senior year is over. For other undergrads that means an internship every summer.
