What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Sakeena

The most popular student activity groups would be sports and Greeks. The most popular sports groups include Mens/Womens Basketball, Football, and Volley Ball. Anytime their is a game, the students all attend to show their support. On campus students that are involved in a Greek organization or Sports Club know the most people and the most recognizable. Greeks often have different events and invite people to attend. They host parties, community service etc. I have attended a few Greek parties and I enjoyed myself.

The most popular activities/groups would probably be fraternities and sororities, although not as huge as in more southern areas but they are still a major part of the school. Many of the modeling groups are also big among the campus, theres alway some fashion show or competition going on. As for parties, you can always find one! Any day of the week I'm sure theres a party somewhere, club flyers are consistently passed around campus.

Chester

There are many activities and events around campus. Athletic events are always packed with students especially football and basketball games. It is very easy to find parties to attend and off campus there are local clubs in the downtown Baltimore area that students often go to and party. Greek life is also very active around campus involving the Alpha Kappa Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, Delta Sigma Theta, and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternities and sororities. Living in the dorm is a great experience where most students interact with one another and pretty much have an open door policy. Off campus housing is also a great experience due to the lessened visiting restrictions as well as the close proximity to local eateries. The inner harbor is a great place where students have fun and get involved with the many events and shows that take place there.

The most popular students are the Greeks and the people who promote for clubs. Everyone knows who these people are because they always have on shirts or paraphernalia that has their organizations name on it, They also host and sponsor a number of on campus parties and events for students to enjoy and usually are upper class men. The ratio here at Morgan I believe is for every 8 girls there is one guy, so you could imagine how the dating scene is. A lot of times girls will like the same guys which causes for conflicts sometimes. People do party here a lot but studies definitely come first, that's the number one priority. Athletic events are very popular here. Football games are always "live" and our basketball team has been really good the past couple of years. We even beat The University of College Park a couple of years ago. I am involved with Campus Pals. A group that gives tours on campus to different age groups ranging from 3rd graders to seniors in high school. We tell them the pros and cons of Morgan State University and college in general, but most important we try to hit home that college should not be an option but a priority for everyone, It's the best way to get ahead in life and it's not a short term fix. I love being a part of anything that can "give back" and help any young person out.

Many organizations are popular in their own way. It really all depends on what your interest are and what you want to become involved with on campus. Groups that I am involved in are the Women's Bowling Team at Morgan State University, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, the Young Women's Christian Association, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, the National Pan-Hellenic Council at Morgan State University, and a volunteer with the Lutheran Campus Ministries Outreach Program at Morgan State University. Students do not leave their dorms open and I would not recommend for any person to do that. That is a safety risk and unless you have insurance on your dorm room, which is recommended, the school is not responsible for things stolen. Athletic events are very popular especially when they are live for ESPN U and other sports networks. Most students will attend almost every home game. The dating scene is pretty good on campus. There is a good enough ratio of men to women. I met my closest friends while as a freshman at Morgan State University. I also met many friends by being involved in organizations. That is the quickest and easy way to meet people. If I am awake at 2am on a Tuesday I am probably doing homework or coming in from hanging out with friends. The traditional events that happen every year include homecoming and I Love Morgan Week! This is a great week full of free stuff to do on campus. It depends on the person. There are people who party all the time and people who choose what party's they will attend. The fraternities and sororities are important on Morgan State University because of the history that is connected with them. We have had great men and women who have been students or faculty that have been apart of these fraternal organizations. As well as one fraternity, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Incorporated, was founded on Morgan's campus. Overall these organizations perform great community service projects and forums that get the whole school interested in their cause and of course wanting to join. There are many things that you can do on a weekend that does not involved drinking or smoking. You can go to parties and just hang out with friends, go to the mall, go to eat or see a movie, hang out at a friends house or enjoy the outdoors. There are also sporting events and other events that happen on the weekend. There are enough things to do in this world that do not involve drugs.

The most popular groups on campus include the basketball , football, and lacrosse teams, the fraternities ans sororities as well as the modeling groups. These organizations host a number of activities throughout the academic year. I am invloved in many study groups for psychology majors. I am also an active mentor, tutor. students in dorms do not leave their doors open because one lesson that is learned ont he road to adulthood is responsibility. Homecoming is everyone's favorite time of the year. it is a time when everyone gets to really show off their talent, spiunk, and school spirit.

Joseph

I am married and have a child so i have never lived in the dorms and i do not party much. However, I am in a fraternity on campus and all of my frat brothers are very involved on campus and they seem to enjoy themselves. My fraternity is how i met the majority of people on campus. The most exciting sporting events are Homecoming football game and basketball games against rival teams.

Kylea

The most popular activities would be the National Council of Negro Women for Women and the S.M.O.O.T.H. organization for men. Sororities and Fraternities are popular as well. There are a lot of different events on campus, this year a basketball game with different celebrity players including Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and LeBron James was hosted. We also have had people such as Bill Cosby, Nikki Giovanni, and Russell Simmons on campus as well. Depending on your personal interests, you can enjoy yourself with your friends.

Chauntia

Every group at the school is important they have different events in the student center almost every school day. From family feud, to dance tournaments, to deep discussions on domestic violence. Fraternities and sororities are very popular at the school though they are plenty other groups at the school they people are about of. Such as SMOOTH which is an organization for men at the school to Leading Ladies an organization for women. Its a group for every person they are all so broad and different. Their arent that many parties on the school campus, because we are located in a city most people just go to the clubs, and the promoters will provide busses for those who dont drive at the school. Student life is fun for every kind of person, homecoming is always fun and I Love Morgan Week in the spring. The does a very good job of pleasing all the students from different areas, with throwing parties at the clubs that has different rooms such as a reggae room, regular music room, and a room with a gogo band which is music listened to in the DC area. Social life is very fun at morgan, though i did not go here my freshman year so i do not know about dorm life, but I do know from living in on-campus apartments that you shouldnt leave your door unlocked.

Tarsha

The most popular students organizations are the women of NCNW or the National Council of Negro Women and the men of S.M.O.O.T.H or Strong Men Overcoming Obstacles Through Hardwork. They provide a positive image for the men and women at Morgan State University and they host both social, economical and academically informative events.

Karachi

The most popular student activities and groups are undoubtedly the fraternities and sororities. While they do not live together in houses as on most other campuses, the sense of belonging is quite strong. In fact, most student organizations subconsciously model their groups after fraternities and sororities. Some of the popular organizations on campus are Leading Ladies, YWCA, National Society of Black, National Association of Black Journalists, Peer Counsellors, and D.I.V.A.S for A.C.T.I.O.N which I was involved with. The Dilligent Intelligent Vibrant Astute Sistahs for All Changes Towards Improving One's Nation was an advocacy group made up of young women of color between the ages of 17 and 29. The organization addressed issues of sexual and reproductive health by providing resources and information, and also encouraging safer sex practices. Most freshman students tend to make friends with roommates, classmates, and others who live in the same dorms as they do. Most of my closest friends in my freshman year were girls who lived in my dorm, and some of my friends from elementary and high school who also ended up at Morgan. It is quite common to see students sitting outside of their dorms with friends especially when a hall has lost visitation rights, or visitation hours are over. The really big parties take place at the very beginning of the semester, and at the end. Most students frequent 18 & over clubs, or bars in the area. Most weekends, students go home to their families and so there aren't that many students left on campus. During the weekends preceding important exams, students stay on campus in order to study in the library. Study groups are quite popular. Also, the students only last year, lobbied the administration for 24-hour library services.

I ahve no idea what the most popular groups are, but the Morgan bears football and basketball are very popular. I am not involved in any group. I do not have time to spend on campus above and beyond class time. I would assume students in dorms keep their stuff locked up tight. No telling if you will become a victim of a crime. Athletic events are very popular, much more than guest speakers. Live theater is popular with the students and outside guests. I would assume the dating scene is good. I see many single people and many couples around campus. My closest friends I met through classes in my major. If I was awake on a tuesday at 2am I would have to be working on a project otherwise that just wouldn't happen. The school has many yearly events including homecoming. From my experience of being on campus and litening to people talk there is a lot of partying going on in and around campus. I think Morgan takes their sororities and frats very seriously. Last weekend I celebrated the holidays with my children and family. I do not drink so anything I do never involves drinking. I spend all my time with my children doing family things, volunteering at my childrens school and of course doing homework and studying.

Morgan State University has many different activities, programs, and organizations that are offered to its students. The most popular activities are probably the sororities and fraternities because it seems as if everyone is interested in the networking opportunities that these organizations offer. There are activities like the annual AIDS lock-in, in which every organization partnered with the Student Government Association for a creative way to bring campus awareness to the Aids epidemic. There are organizations that promote training and experience to students within their field of study as well as that directly introduce students to business professionals. I am involved in the International Students Association(I.S.A) which is an organization that tackles stereotypes from different cultures as well creates a sense of unity to individuals from all areas of the world. As well as being in I.S.A, i am involved in the Association for Information Technology Professionals (A.I.T.P) which is a organization that allows me to learn things pertaining to my major, compete in computer programming competitions and meet with professionals in the IT field. The dating scene is very live at Morgan, I don't think it is possible to matriculate through Morgan without being in at least ONE serious relationship. There are students from all over the world who attend Morgan and the different faces and styles brings about various attractions and interesting hook-ups. Whether it is on campus or in the city, there is always something to do at Morgan State, just about every night there is some event hosted by one or more of the various different organizations. I have attended financial workshops, fashion shows, hair shows, alternate prom (hosted by the L.G.T.B club), annual career fair, etc. there is always something that a student can be involved in as well as various showcases, galas, plays, and much more for visitors to attend.

The most popular student activities on campus are the Divine Nine organizations. I am a member of the Alpha Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and I love it! Greek organizations hold many program and service opportunities and step on a regular basis. Outside of Greek life, athletics, especially basketball, bring students together to support our teams! There are frequently on campus parties hosted by various organizations.

The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) is very popular. This organization is known for community service and has won the best female student organization award. Basketball and football games are pretty popular. It is a fun place to hang out and hear Morgan's awesome marching band.

I don't think that fraternities/sororities are that important from what I can see. I rarely see any events or anything that has to do with a fraternity or sorority. I do not even know how to go about joining because I never hear anything about it. Its like non-existent.

kaylah

some of the popular students activites/ groups are SMOOTH, SGA, FAM and The Union. SMOOTH is a group for only men, FAM is a modeling club and The Union is a party promoting team. students who live on campus usually lock their doors at night when they are sleeping. 2am on a tuesday night i am studying if i am up. there is a party almost every night. there is hardly ever a dull day at morgan state. Greek Life is big at morgan. the greeks host many events and parties and the probates are always very exciting.

The most popular groups on campus are the basketball and football teams, frats and sororities, and the organizations/clubs. I'm with the WMSUTV, which is the television station at the school. We tell the news on local, national, music, entertainment, campus events and stories, and other miscellaneous information. Students in dormitories have senors keys to get in the building for security reasons. Students also have a separate to get in and out their room doors. It is up to the student to leave the door open or closed, or locked or unlocked. Athletic events and guest speakers are out biggest events on campus and are very popular and seat fillers. Most students meet their closest friends in their roommates and suite mates, which is how I met my closest friends. When you have to stay with a group of people for a whole year, its bound that y'all will become close friends. Students stay up for different reasons, whether it be with friends, partying, studying, watching TV, or playing video games, students are known to stay up late daily. Each year will have special events, such as Fall and Spring homecomings, coronation, I love MSU day, AIDS awareness day, and other events that only happen once a year. Fraternities and sororities are very important are campus, especially if your involved in one. They are very close, and make it known on campus who they are. Last weekend I celebrated new years with some friends because I am currently on winter break from school, but If I was at school, I probably would be doing work during the day and hanging out with friends at night. On a Saturday night, you can go to events they have sometimes on campus, hang out with friends in your room or go out with them to the mall. movies, etc. Although there a lot of parties at school, does not mean you have to go to each one.

Kwasi

All groups, organizations, clubs, and teams blend well on campus. They are the ones I believe that really create that community feeling that trickles down through the University body. They are so caring towards each other, respectful, and will come together to throw a big event. It really makes the events on campus very diverse in the topics and people you will see there. Many of these events cause the students to meet their closest friends or the person they are currently dating.

Chakiris

The most popular organizations on campus are the fraternities and sororities. Moreover, there are also, governmental and clubs stemmed from majors on campus. Activities that are most popular is the Homecoming which is held in the fall of every year and the concerts held sporadically during the year.

Dorien

Since we have a lot of Greek organizations on campuses, there is plenty to do. We also have over 300 other organizations for just about every major on campus. During the week there are plenty of things to get in to. In the brand new student center (just 5 minutes away from the dorms) you can grab some food and watch one of the many flat screen televisions inside... or just upstairs, you can play a game of pool or ping pong. And for students who do not have transportation, the local bus or college shuttle can take you over to Towson Mall just 10 mins away from campus. When I'm off campus, I usually go to Towson to shop or shoot some hoops at the gym.

Morgan state has a number of fraternities and sororities for men and woman. These sororities and fraternities stress academic excellence. They are also active members in the Baltimore community. Furthermore Morgan state has many other groups that range from LGBT groups to Religious prayer groups. Morgan state has open Mic events along with poetry lounge events. There are plenty events for students to be involved in on campus. Typical Morgan home comings are definitely memorable. Home comings in the past have included the celebrity comedian Kevin hart. Additionally famous rappers such as , big Sean and lil Wayne have also attended Morgan state’s home coming. Other events have included Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant at Morgan states basketball events. Typical parties at Morgan State happen every other Friday. Most of these parties are off campus and geared towards the Morgan state students. This means that there is no underage drinking and students are carded, and checked before entering the events. Morgan State Is geared towards the students and for the students. If there is room in your heart for Morgan state, Morgan State has room for you.

There are many different organizations and clubs on campus that you will never find yourself bored while on campus. I am actually involved with the honor society Beta Gamma Sigma and NABA and i am enjoying every moment of it. The university is very close to restaurants, parks, night clubs, shopping malls, movies, and many more which means you are never bored or alone while attending Morgan State University.

Carl

The most popular groups on campus are the various fraternities/sororities as well the Student Government Association. Also there has been a number of programs that give back to community one being Strong Men Overcoming Obstacles Through Hard work (S.M.O.O.T.H). A group I am involved with is the Society of Women Engineers. I am the Male representation of the society. Most students do not leave their dorm rooms open yet some students do. The athletic events are very popular many students tend to come out for them. We seldom have guest speakers but when we do there is always a good turnout. The dating scene is contemporary with many place within Baltimore to go on a date. I met my closest friends at popular events on campus or at parties. If I am awake at 2AM on a Tuesday I would be in the Engineering building working on a project due Wednesday or Thursday. I love Morgan week is a spring semester tradition that is a filled with fun events and activities. People party at least 2 days a week at Morgan. The fraternities/sororities are very important on campus and there are a lot of supporters for probates and events. The last weekend I was at Morgan I went to a get together at a peers house for game night. Rather than drinking on a Saturday night you could go ice skating, see a movie, or attend an art event. I do all of my food shopping, i attend campus derived events, and volunteer off campus.

Jakeena

All student organizations are very popular on campus. For the most part, students really aspire to be apart of sororities and fraternities. However, it does not stop there, there are so many active organizations on our campus that I cannot say which ones are most popular. They are all pretty amazing. I am a member of several organizations on campus, such as, the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, the Office of Residence Life (ORL), Golden Key International Honor Society, and PsiChi Honor Society, and the Morgan State University Honor Society.

Morgan has over 300 student organizations. Just like any other HBCU we love sports and we love music. Our school is a division 1 school, our basketball team won the MEAC Championship two years in a row and have been to the NCAA Tournament numerous times. Our cheerleading team has won the MEAC Championship as well. We have a wonderful band and great band dancers that gets the crowd hype at every event. I am apart of the Morganette dance team and we perform at all of the baskeball home games. Each year we have homecoming week in the fall and I love Morgan week in the spring. We have had celebs such as Kevin Hart, Wale, Bill Cosby, Meek Mill, Tyler Perry, etc. all visit our university and participate in our activities. Greek life is not a huge thing on our campus but we still do have the divine 9 present. You can participate in various open mic nights, talent showcases, and even movie nights in out student center theater if you are not a party person. If you do like to party, Morgan provides transportation from the dorms to the clubs in downtown Baltimore and back. There is always something to do and something to be apart of on our campus.

Our SGA is very widely stretched, and deeply involved. The race to be the "queen" of your class (Miss Freshman up to Miss Senior) seems to be the most exciting, presiding over all of course Mr. and Miss Morgan State University. Personally, I am involved with the Psychological Society, since that is a group within my major. Others however like to involve themselves with fraternities and sororities such as AKA, KAO, DST, Swing Phi Swing, Groove Phi Groove, etc. As far as activities, our students like to attend Open Mics. For some reason, those seem to create the most buzz on campus. Thank goodness, too-- I'm a poet ;)

I cannot talk about student activities without mentioning some of the amazing speakers we have had. I had the honor of listening to Dr. Nawal el Saadawi give first hand account of the revolution in Egypt; Mrs. Gloria Mayfield-Banks inspired us all with her wise words and drive to succeed; our President, Dr. Wilson makes us proud to be a part of Morgan with every speech. What's also great is Morgan's location. Here you have access to great theaters, museums, fun artistic events. With our talented dance ensemble and a museum on campus, how can you ever be bored?!
