What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I need a car for free to go somewhere outside campus.

I wish I knew how to drive so I could get around easier. It can be hard sometimes when we want to get off campus sometimes and have to wait for the buses.

That the first year would be really easy so I should have taken more classes to reduce my workload now.

I wish I had known that there was a Career Development Center where students can seek internship, financial, career, graduate and professional school, resume and cover letter advice. Students can also drop in for a one-on-one meeting with an alumnae or talk with someone there. I wish I had known there is a Speaking, Arguing, & Writing Program Center where students seek advice on how to improve their papers and learning how to think critically and learning to write and speak persuasively.

Education is unbelievably expensive. You will be the poorest you have ever been while in school. Be very careful with your money, and cut out all non-necessary expenditures (or be forced to, through utter depletion of funds.) Save your money for travelling, not coffee.

I wish I had known how hard the faculty and staff work against their students instead of trying to help them. I also wish that I knew that many professors here are teaching while doing research or are still here because of tenure and that their classes are tedious tasks that they have to deal with.

The amount of work that was required of me- sometimes I feel as though I am attending a graduate institution. Also, I wish thta I could have known the increase in tuition over time- it has gone up a ridiculous amount each year.

I don't know if you really can know Mount Holyoke before you get there. It's not a typical college experience, and everyone reacts differently to it. It's one of those things that you have to experience for yourself even if you think you know everything there is to know and you think you know what you're getting into.

the fact that it really is in the middle of nowhere- takes half an hour to get to the nearest drugstore, which is in a different town. Also, though the school is a good size becuse it allows for small, discussion-based classes, sometimes it can get annoying because you tend to take classes with the same people who share your major over and over.
