New College has the atmosphere of an old-time Southern area: our doors are usually opened, you can holler a greeting at your neighbor and have a party every Friday/Saturday night to just celebrate the individuality of our school. The nerd side of the school comes out to play here, too: we have a Quidditch team. We lack any real competitive sports- besides sailing!- but have flag football games versus nearby Ringling. With the school being so small, we lack fraternities/sororities due to the whole school feeling like a "family." If you're not of age to drink, you can go down to Downtown Sarasota and window shop through St. Armand's square, watch a movie at the theater or stay on campus and do a "wall-ternative" where you can play board games, watch movies, do crafts, etc. There really is a plethora of student activities to do around here!

There are often movie showings several nights of the week. Foreign language clubs show foreign movies (with subtitles) which I often go to, there's the Foreign Artsy Rare Film Society which is pretty awesome, Erotic Film Lover's Club shows porn movies just to laugh at them, and they show Rifftrax in one of the auditoriums every Wednesday. There are also nerf wars and soccer games that get organized on the [FORUM] periodically. Every Friday and Saturday night there's a wall (New College speak for party) in Palm Court. Sometimes there's a unique theme that you can dress up for. Kiss Your Crush Wall, where people just kiss people for the hell of it, was the most fun so far (in my opinion). Many students partake in the recycling bins of free alcohol tucked away in some corner of the Pei dorm and dance. If drinking and dancing isn't really your thing, though, it's still a great opportunity to walk around and meet people. A lot of people just hang out on the sides of Palm Court and it's great to just talk to people who you don't see normally because they're in their dorms studying. Also, some of the alums who are still in the area show up to walls and they're cool to talk to too. There's also always a wallternative where people get together to play magic, children's card games, board games, watch the Simpsons, or play videogames.
