Northwest Vista College Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Trinity

There is a lot of emphasis on the benefits of taking dual credit classes, but there isn't enough stress on the consequences of not doing well once you're in that class. I wish they would've told me that not earning myself a 4.0 in that dual credit class meant I wouldn't start college with a 4.0 like everyone else. That also meant I couldn't qualify for certain scholarships my college offered. Discussing these consequences openly with students could serve as motivators- keeping them aware and giving them more reason to do good in their dual credit classes.

It would have been very helpful to know that Northwest VIsta has the longest wait to meet with an advisor because if not the wait is ridiculus. I had to go to St. Phillips to be seen and the wait was 5 minutes compared to 6 hours for Northwest Vista. I was so fustrated and now i need to meet with my advisor again i dont even feel like trying at VIsta.

I would have wished that much of the tutoring is actually done in study groups since there is only a minimum of 4 total tutors to actually help. Before coming to this campus, it would have been much appreciated that all the work load would only come from certain classes and others for not. But most importantly it would have been nice to know that much of the student population is a bit shy while other are a just rude. And that this would be a little bit hard to even make new friends without first having friends.

I wish I had more prior knowledge of the various instructors for the course. Certain styles of teaching allow me to become more easily engaged than others, and I would have chosen my classes accordingly.

i wish i had toured the school and knew where all my classes were located. I also wish i had known that it was going to be very difficult tofind parking.

Kristen

I wish I had been better prepared for the effort it takes to be in college. I work full time and a part time job on top of full time school, and it is a hard thing to do.
