The dining hall food is actually pretty good, and there are always healthy options. There's always a nice salad bar, there are always whole wheat options, and there's always lots of vegetarian food. That being said, you can really go and pig out on junk as well, if you want.

I'm a vegetarian, so I like the dining halls a lot. Northwestern currently holds the title for most vegan-friendly small school in America. Every dining hall will have some sort of good, interesting vegetarian and vegan entree at every meal. My more omnivorous friends don't like the dining hall quite so much, but it's still better than that slop they serve at public high schools. Maybe it's not your grandma's home-cooking, but it's pretty good for institutional food. Northwestern works really hard to accommodate all dietary needs; Allison Hall has a rabbi-supervised kosher station and the staff does its best to make sure there are nutrition labels near every item so you know exactly what's going into your body. We also have something here called "hot cookie bar" which is exactly what it sounds like. The dining halls put out huge trays of almost-all-the-way-cooked hot cookie gooey deliciousness. If you feel like paying extra money, we also have some convenience stores and little cafes where you can get sandwiches, snacks, juice, etc. And we have a crepe bistro in the student center, which is kind of the best thing ever.

Lisa’s Café is a popular place for freshmen living in the nearby dorms to grab a snack, study or just catching up.

Conveniently located in a North Campus science building, Einstein’s is a favorite with students.

Great for toasty sandwiches and pizza, Rollin’ to Go is an extremely popular North Campus hang out.
