What is your overall opinion of this school?

Oakland University is an affordable college that is constantly growing with commuters and on campus students. I feel that I have had more opportunities at Oakland than I would have had at a bigger school like MSU or UofM. The academics are incredible and getting involved on campus is super easy as there is a club for anyone.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Oakland University is unlike any other due to its drive to establish itself in the world of education. So, I am constantly impressed by the constant improvements being initiated (new dorms, hiring more faculty, building new classes, etc.). This extra-effort is already being recognized nationally. Oakland University was ranked as one of the safest college's in the country (College Choice), most inclusive campus' in Michigan (Campus Pride Index), and one of the top public universities in Michigan (Forbes Magazine). All around me on campus, Oakland University is expanding and striving to create a better environment for their students. This hunger for success is evident, making it stand out from other Universities. Other schools, I fear, tend to lean back because they have been around longer. Oakland University, however, is young, scrappy, and hungry (like a renowned founding father). I will forever appreciate this youthful spirit on campus.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I really love Oakland University. It is a smaller campus with a big campus feeling. I enjoy being able to walk to all my classes in ten minutes or less. There are many opportunities to get involved on campus through student organizations, on campus employment, intramural sports, research, and much more. The professors are usually always more than willing to go the extra mile to help a student. Overall, I love Oakland. The only thing I would change if I could is the grading scale, it is way too hard to earn a 4.0 or competitive grades at this institution.

I absolutely love attending Oakland University. I didn't have the best high school experience so I was hoping things would be different for me at OU. From the day I attended orientation I knew this was the place for me. Everyone was no friendly and helpful, I finally feel welcome and comfortable. I have met new friends, met my boyfriend here and my 40 minute commute each way (on a good day) is very worth my time considering how happy i am now. Thank you to OU this has changed my life!

Oakland be extra-ordinary

So Oakland University has some pretty cool activities and clubs, but mostly its a commuter school. Parking is free, but it's always hard to find a spot. If you don't live on campus or around campus it's likely that you don't know all the events going on and what's available to you as a student. I like that it's a closed campus and we've got some state of the art buildings and labs. The professors in the introductory courses are awful but the 200-400 level professors are pretty good. Don't always trust rate my professor on them, ask around for first hand advice. The food choices on campus are super expensive and not very healthy. There are a lot of restaurants in the surrounding area with better choices and prices, also there's a whole foods a mile down. Overall as pretty ordinary and a bit extra.

Keeps Improving

OU gets better every semester. They're really trying to become a well-known state school, I think. I don't live on campus, I'm a commuter like many of the other students, so I'm usually not aware of sports events or other stuff unless I purposely seek out information. It's kind of just a chill school. Pretty and well-kept campus, decent food, lots of clubs and new stuff being built and added all the time. I would recommend if you don't need the big school hype.

Beautiful Campus & Great coursework

There is no daily parking charges, which is great. Parking is offered first come, first served. The campus is so large, I still have not explored all of it yet. There are ponds, hammocks, rolling hills, trees, lots of grass, etc. It is a beautiful campus.

My Problematic Fave

It feels like home. You love to love it and you love to hate it. All my profs have been excellent, I've learned a lot in all my classes, my classmates are usually very fun and down-to-earth, and the campus is gorgeous. My problems with OU are: there are too many b.s. bureaucratic positions (vice assistant provost dean advisor of such-and-such department...bleh), they seem to sometimes be intentionally wasting your money (adding unnecessary but required classes to your major every year, raising tuition and housing rates every year and then "repairing" sidewalks which were already fine instead of the disgusting bathrooms in some of the residence halls...) and they make you jump through a lot of hoops for scheduling & advising. But overall, I love it and I wouldn't trade it for any other school.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

My parents and I went on a tour yesterday and loved the campus. I'm currently attending Schoolcraft College for my pre-requisites. The crime rate is low, and it's easy to find everything. There's security all around the campus, and it's quiet. Looking forward to going there.
