How often should I phone home? Is once a day too much?

Susan

I personally think that once a day would be too much. A few times a week would allow you to be more independent and experience more things rather then always having a constant need to phone home.

It doesn't matter. No one will judge you. I think you should get to a point where you don't HAVE to call at all. But you should want to. When I first moved in I came home pretty regularly and my mom would come visit and I would call almost every day. But as I got settled in I came home less and less and weeks would pass by when I didn't call. But my mom and I are really close so most of the time I would call her a few times a week. Family is important so just do what you think is best. Never feel like you have to call but never feel like you are being judged or you are less independent if you do call. I'm going to sound really old right now, but you are only 18 and as great as it is, college can be a big scary world. There's nothing wrong with needing to hear a familiar voice every once and a while.

I lived by myself the first year, and my parents called me everyday, they did the same to my brother who lived in the dorms. He didn't always answer the phone. It all depends on you, if you like to talk to your parents often, you should and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you're not sure and hesitating, you can tell you parents you'll text them if you can't call, and that way you save yourself inconvenience while you're playing video games or chatting or partying with your friends.
