Ohio State University-Main Campus Top Questions

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Jon

From Ohio State, I have gotten the challenges I needed to know that I can handle things on my own. While there are always people looking to help, no one is here to make you do things, so you must adapt. In my opinion, this is the most valuable things a school can teach a student.

Andrea

College has taught me so many valuable lessons that apply not only to the classroom, but to life. When I was in highschool, school was easy for me. I never really had to study and I would still do well in my classes. College, however, is a completely different story. Since the majority of our grade is based on how well we do on tests, it's important to take every opportunity to study. This has been the first time in my life that I've really had to buckle down and work hard to ensure that I do well in my classes. Now that I'm in college and I'm paying for my education, I have to be more accountable for my actions. That means staying in and studying, instead of following the example of so many of my peers, and staying out all night . College is making me take responsability for my actions and it has taught me that hard work truly pays off.

Carolyn

I am starting college so that I can improve my life. I am a wife and mother of 4, and I want to get a degree in sonography so that I can be an example for my children. It will be a valuable experience for me just to be able to attend and go after my dream. I wanted to go to college and pursue my career as a sonographer when I graduated high school but it just didn't work out at the time. I believe that it was in God's plans for me to go to college now. The experience of going to college will be very rewarding and valuable to me and my family.

Kaecee

I have gotten out of my college experience to not procrastinate. Procrastinating is stressful and you cannot do quality work by rushing it. When you receive a long project or research paper work on it a little each day. So when the due date comes you will just have to touch it up and not have to stay up all night to complete it. Even though at Ohio State there is not a lot of resources to help you with classes and financial aid, by attending OSU it has helped me to realize you can’t depend on others to help you achieve. So expect nothing from others so you are not disappointed if you don’t get help or acknowledgement.

Shelby

Independence. College as a whole has shown me that there is more than the south, southern hospitality, and Coke. My college experience has allowed me to see beyond my restricted view of the nation. No other univeristy could have given me that.

Hanisha

I have not only made new friends at OSU, but I have also built my leadership abilities by being involved and have better prepared myself for a possible career in medicine.

Emily

On top of a great education, I have recieved many valuable lifelong experiences through attending Ohio State University. Since freshman year, I have been on the road to discovery to find out my place in the world. Through getting involved in groups that interested me, trying new groups, and meeting new people, I have gained the tools and skills needed to find out who I am, discover what I want to do in life, and how to obtain a career after college. College is a great way to build social skills which are very important in the work world. No matter what profession, you will come accross people of different cultures and backgrounds, and it is important to learn how to effectively cope with tough situations and cross barriers to obtain a healthy relationship. I came into college with a passion for music, and although I am not personally skills in playing or producing music, I have gained the business skills so I can go into marketing for music entertainment. This is what I found I truly love, and , I am determined to go after the career that Ohio State has prepared for me.

"A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step" - Lao-Tzu - I have attended Solano Community College since I graduated high school in 2005, and though it is not a University, I have observed and learned to appreciate so much about life. In many ways, I feel fortunate because community colleges cater to so many demographics. No matter what walk of life, age or physical capacity, we are all drawn that campus. Could it be that we all have realized that degree is crucial in this new economy? Maybe we all the have a personal goal to acheive. The pursuit of knowledge is the key to understanding and solving many of life's conundrums. In my college experience, thus far, I've enjoyed collaborting with and being in an environment where we are all trying to achieve the same goals. Where we all, not only, benefit from the the instructors, but from the experiences of our fellow classmates as well. I've started this journey for knowledge and intend on finishing it, and rather than fail or succumb to debt, I ask for your assistance...and in turn, I will be indebted to you forever. Thanks for Listening.

After having college experience for a year and a half, I can safely bring myself to say that it has been a hell of a ride in all aspects possible. My lifestyle has changed for the better. My mindset has been morphed into a style of thinking that I would never think of being in a plethora of years. I can't go on without saying that it hasn't just all been an enlightening experience and enjoyment. If anything, I feel like the harsh deadlines, living alone, having to make crucial decisions and more have formed me into a more mature student in more ways possible. I have learned efficient time management. I have learned that you always reap what you put in to sow. I have also learned that effort has gone a long way. Through this "rude awakening", I truly believe that it has snapped me into more of a determined person. Depression has always gotten me before college. I have kept it present and for some reason I was never able to let go. Who knew a full attitude adjustment and realization of efficiency was actually the answer to shape up such student as me?

I've learnt the importance of learning in order to become a contributing member of society. I've also learnt that being a genuine, open person really will get you places. Always keep your eyes open and cherish the opportunities that are being laid across your feet.

Brittany

Although I have only been at college for a few short months, I already have become my own, independent person. I have learned to live without my parents, and that in itself is an accomplishment. I have also gained a sense of direction in my life. The populated streets and the tall buildings never cease to amaze me. By being at Ohio State and in Columbus, I know that this is where I belong.

My college experience has been the most enjoyable time of my life so far. Leadership opportunities are the most thrilling part of my 2 years of college. Starting my sophomore year, I have become President of Society of Student Leaders, one of the largest clubs at Trident Technical college. Another accomplishment of mine is becoming one of ten ambassadors of the college. We are a special advertising group of the college that gives tours to individuals of the school. College also has been preparing me for the real working world in so many ways. I have more responsibilities influencing my future than I ever have. Continuing to learn is essential to life, but so far, the most important skill I have learned and improved since I have been in college is communication. Learning how to talk to people that I do not know has helped me to become the leader I am in my community. The one thing I anticipate to leave with my peers is if you have an opportunity to step and lead or take charge of anything then take advantage of the opportunity. School will continue to be the best thing I have ever done.

The Ohio State University is like a small city within a larger city. In fact it is like a simulation of a city. Every morning I head off to my classes as if I'm heading off to work in the real world. As I head off to class I pass by other people who are just as diverse as the people I will pass by in real life. College is not just academics its also a community. In my academics the most important skill to learn is how to learn because we never stop learning whether we are in school or not. Meeting new people and making friends is an important goal for me when I came to college. My college experience includes also the balance of the real world and college itself. Not only do I go to class but I work as well. I do the best I can to balance work, college, and my social life. And the accumulation of these aspects make my college experience very valuable indeed.

Tran

What I have gotten out of my college experience so far is that I have a lot of free time! I was really nervous on the first day because of how big the university is and I didn't know what to expect in my classrooms but after I few hours beinging in college, I was used to it because in high school, the speed in the classroom is the same with college. I was scared that I would get lost but even though it is a big campus, it is not as big as I thought it was. College is different from high school because when you are late, the teacher doesn't care and you don't have to go to class compared to high school. One thing that I like about college is how much free time that I have so I have to watch what I do with that time. Since no one is forcing you to go to classes, I think it is important because with the education that you are learning in college , it is going to help you in the major of your choice.

Ahmed

My college experience has been great. I have gotten a lot of friends and networks to help me succeed in life. It has been valuable because I would have not been able to make those connections if I went elsewhere. I am excited in finishing the rest of my college years and graduating.

Julie

I've had the chance to meet new people as much as possible. Learn all different things, because there is always something new going on at Ohio State. I've learned that, in a place so big, it's important to have a small group of people you can relax with. The people, believe it or not, are what make a big school like Ohio State feel small and comfortable.

Sarah

I have taught how to manage my time wisely and how to balance schoolwork and outside activites. I have also learned how to keep all of my subjects and notes organized. I've been able to focus on my courses and keep up good grades and work part-time to save up to eventually transfer to a four year university. I've had many experiences throughout my life and my college courses just help me see that it is difficult balanceing classes and work.

Simona

Although this is my second year at the Ohio State University, I have had such a great experience here. The campus is beautiful and has different types of environments, such as city life, suburbs, anybody will fall in love with this campus. Classes are very large is size, but they also offer smaller classes where students have in-depth discussions with their teachers. Everybody is motivated at OSU, most of the time here is spent in the library. The Thompson Library is a newly built beautiful building with eleven floors. There are several other libraries nearby to provide a learning environment for all of its students. However, nothing compares to the school spirit. Every game day students wake up early in the morning to get ready for the game. I don't think any school has as much school spirit as the buckeyes. Until you've been to the stadium and witnessed the school spirit, it is something miraculous. Going to Ohio State makes me proud to be a buckeye whenever somebody asks me what university I attend.

My college experience has been a dynamic road, each quarter feeling like a different year passing by. During my spring quarter in Ohio State University, there is a prestigious competition for honors students which divides all of the honors engineering students into teams of four and teaches them to create a project- a self navigating robot through a certain maze. While the project itself has been complicated enough as it is, it becomes even more so complicated when you have a few hundred compeititive students involved each competing for the place at the top. So after hours of grueling work, things started going downhill when our egos started getting in our way. Instead of cooperating, we were bickering about who should give out the commands. After a week of almost getting no work done, we stopped the bickering and started working. It became clear then who was the best in which part of the project. After each one assumed their own responsibility, we would asked for help if they needed, not to order another person around. That is when we realized, that one should not lead through commands and order, but rather through excellence.

Lisa

Besides a good education, I have learned a lot about the world and myself. I have met my best friends and joined organizations that are shaping the course of my life. I have been able to choose a major and explore other interests in my minor.

Jessica

Two years ago, a workplace accident snapped the bones in my right foot in half.  After two reconstructive foot surgeries, the doctors still are unsure whether my foot will ever heal.  I have spent more than seven months in a walker, and need more surgery in September.  My mobility issues turned into the greatest blessing of my life, however, because during my recovery, I discovered that the DeafBlind community could use my help in removing mobility barriers more permanent than my own. I started Pup-eye Guide Dog Training School in early 2010.  Pup-eye solves mobility issues for DeafBlind individuals by providing guide dogs that are specially trained for both sight and sound;  this is the only school of its kind in North America.  A graduate degree in accountancy will qualify me to handle Pup-eye’s funding and financials, and that inspires me to go back to school.

Jenna

I have learned a great deal about myself and what I am capable of doing. I have been able to be a part of things I never thought I would be able to do. One example is a study abroad that I did in Italy. I got to live in Florence Italy for 3 months while studying art and getting credit to bring back to school. I have learned to rely a lot more on myself and that I am able to handle a lot more than I ever thought possible. Going to OSU has been valuable in a way that is hard to put into words. It has allowed me to grow as a person, meet people that I otherwise wouldn't have known, and pushed me to push myself. I am a better person because of my choice to go to OSU.

Lisa

When I graduated from high school, my head was in the clouds and I felt invincible. I earned the title of Valedictorian with very little effort, but once college hit I found myself unprepared. I barely passed Attic Prose, a 104 Ancient Greek language class, and Chemistry 121 left me shocked! I had never struggled with anything so much in my life. The subsequent Winter Quarter completely broke me down. Chemistry 122 at Ohio State was so difficult and demanding it finally taught me that I did not know how to learn; I did not know how to study. This realization led to a significant amount of self-improvement and unlike my first two quarters, I finished Spring Quarter strong. I took the maximum number of credit hours and scored three As and an A-! My GPA may not be in the best shape at the moment, but I could not be more grateful for the trial I endured this past year. I feel confident and strong again. Knowing my personal learning style is probably the most valuable thing I will learn in college, which is something no textbook could teach.

Cory

Starting from back in high school when everyone was stressing over college applications and entrance exams, to those first exciting tours of college campuses, where I was first entranced by backwards-walking guides who never tripped while reciting their encyclopedic knowledge of the school, and then brought swiftly back to reality with their extra-loud announcement about the OSU Condom Club—another friendly reminder to the parents (most of whom were now intently staring at their child with parental XRay vision) that their little angels have all but reached adulthood. Though really, that thought never hit home for me until late into my freshman year while I was juggling classes, bills, and a fabulous array of noxious chemicals in a research lab I volunteer for. I’m gaining real-world experience, networking as if it were my job to, and mostly just doing everything I can to help prepare myself for Medical School. At this stage in the game, you’re here for you and nobody else—If you’re not willing to go that extra mile, then you don’t belong—It’s that simple. I know when to have fun and when to say no; College did that.

It was a long, hot day filled with moving boxes into my small dorm room, which would be shared with 3 other freshman. As my family drove away into the setting sun, I was both excited and a bit apprehensive. It was a new chapter in my life; one that I had planned for throughout high school. I would be living about 3 hours from home, so the visits back home would be few especially since freshman were not allowed to have cars on campus. As my parents’ 16 year-old van disappeared into the horizon; I paused and looked at my surroundings, Ohio State University, home of the Buckeyes. Over the past year, I have not only obtained knowledge in honors engineering, I have also gained new life skills, learned about leadership and community service, made many new friendships and created memories that will last a lifetime. At the end of my freshman year, I even qualified and ran in the 2010 Boston Marathon; an experience that I will never forget. The entire experience was truly invaluable as it was a year of discovery in which I learned about myself: my strengths, weaknesses, goals and aspirations. Go Buckeyes !!!

Brooke

My college experience has taught me a lot about myself. Throughout these two years I have realized both my strengths and weaknesses. As someone that has always received good grades, I found it hard to talk to professors and ask for help. When this trait negativelly affected my first quarter gpa, I had to make a change. I have gained leadership qualities and a larger appreciation for people. I have always have an individualistic mindset and when I became president of a student organization, that could no longer work. I have learned how to work with different types of people effectively and efficiently. I have also gained a greater love for community, which has led to the decision to go into public service after graduation. College has really bettered me as a person.

Derek

The most valuable asset I have gained from my college experience at The Ohio State University is my networking contacts. I have met doctors, student life leaders, lawyers, nationally known professors and historians, atheletes, coaches, and future movers and shakers of the world. These connections are immensely valuable considering globalization and the merging of professional fields. I plan on using these contacts as well as the knowledge gained in and out of the classroom in my academic and professional pursuits after receiving my undergraduate degree. Other than academic/professional connections, I have made many social connections as well. Some of the friends I have made in the past two years I will know for the rest of my life. I can honestly say that I'd take a bullet for many of them, if not all of them. They have helped me and I have helped them on the journey through college. Study parties, encouraging words, academic advice, and a friendly face are always available to me at OSU. I wouldn't trade these connections for the world.

Jessica

After my first quarter in college, my parents told me they noticed how much more mature I seemed when I returned home. They told me I was an entirely new person. I fully believe that my college experience has helped me mature and grow into a better person. Had it not been for The Ohio State University, I do not feel as if I would be the same person that I am today. Not only has my college offered me wonderful opportunities for personal growth, but it has also offered me an academic education comparable to some of the best colleges out there. My education is something so important to me, and a diploma from any other university would not suffice. The Ohio State University is the best place for me; it is my home away from home.

Cameron

I came to The Ohio State University not knowing a single person and was 2200 miles away from home. I immediately made friends on the rugby team and got great advice from every one of them. Everyone is eager to help out everyone else in their own way. The campus is so large that everyone has unique experiences; however, anyone can easily find a group of friends and stick with them throughout their stay at OSU. I have learned that opportunity comes with every situation. Even after two torn anterior cruciate ligaments, I have seen that without those surgeries, I would not be the person I am today. Ohio State has taught me to cherish my personality and those traits that set me apart from the VERY large majority. Having been one of the few Hispanic students in the business school, I have learned that everyone has a different view about different cultures and that one must be tolerant of others' views.

Christopher

I was taught that life's greatest lesson is learned through experience. I feel as though my experience in college would help my previous self by alleviating stress and also would open doors for a plethora of oppotunities. I would give wisdom to my past self so that the future ahead would become visual even then. Illuminating a path towards success and clearing the way of many obstacles so that I may have a easy transition. You can learn from others but the one lesson I have learned is that there is nothing compared to being one step ahead, and that lesson is life's greatest lesson. The lesson in which I would teach my former self.

Timothy

Attending a school of over 50,000 students may seem daunting to some, but I embrace the oppurtunity to attend The Ohio State University. Home of the Buckeyes, the university offers 175 undergraduate majors from 14 different colleges and spans over approx. 1800 acres. Attending such an immensely large school has provided me with oppurtunities that very few college students can experience. Uniquely, Ohio State owns its own airport. This has allowed me to continue to pursue my private pilots license while also focusing on my scholastic studies. Also, the school is home to some of the best research facilities in the country. Recently, the completely student-built "Buckeye Bullet" broke the land speed record traveling at 315 mph. As a sophomore, I have been given the oppurtunity to expand my horizons and experience the non traditional education. Throughout my remaining years at OSU, I no doubt will find myself taking advantage of everything that the University has to offer. Perhaps it could be my design that breaks a new world record some day... I thank you for the consideration for the CampusDiscovery scholarship and will anxiously await the announcement of the winner.

What I have attained from my college experience is an increased awareness of academic responsibilities and the importance of social interactions for future success. College life can be a difficult transition for many due to the new found freedom given to students previously subjected to their parents rules and ethics, and can become overwhelming to balance this with the scholastic duties expected of them. Being part of a campus as large as Ohio State makes this reality all the more relevant. That being said, it is important to be able to responsibly deal with these pressures, since these short years will be some of the most important years of ones life to develop excellent social skills and and friendships that last a life time. Although academic excellence is important, it is just as important to be able to network and branch out to all, no matter what walks of life they originate from. Impressions last a life time, and having a positive outlook on the future and developing an ease to social interaction is crucial to success later on. This is something that must be experienced since it can not be taught, and it is the experience I value most.

Autumn

As a sophomore at Ohio State, I feel that I am not only embarking on a journey to an education, but a journey to myself. I have already learned so much about who I am as a person that I had yet to discover during my "awkward" high school years. I have been involved in things I had never dreamed I would take part in; for example, my FIRST class as a college freshman was a Hip Hop Dance class! Although I hardly see myself as a hip-hop dancer in the future, the class taught me that I have the courage to break out of my comfort zone and try new things. I have been successful in my first year making it on the Dean's List twice, and I made friends that I will know for the rest of my life. I'm active with intramural sports and the Zoology Club, and I regularly take part in everything Ohio State has to offer whether it's attending a play or working out in the gym. I am not oblivious to the fact that NOW is the time to make mistakes, learn from them, and discover who I am.

I have already spent my first two years of as a college student at The Ohio State University preparing for the challenges and demands of being a physician. I have challenged myself academically by taking difficult courses such as honors calculus, honors organic chemistry series, and many upper level biology courses within my major whenever possible, and have also ensured a stable solid educational foundation on which to build future knowledge. In addition, I have supplemented my coursework by doing neuroscience research for the past two years, and have taken on several individual projects. It has been my goal as an undergraduate to prepare myself for the challnges of medical school. I have been able to learn valuable skills through many of my extracurricular activies. OSU's taekwondo club has taught me leadership and goal setting, challenging courses have prepared me for the MCAT and medical school, volunteering at the cancer center has further developed my compassion for other human beings. I believe that I have learned great lessons as an undergraduate at The Ohio State University.

As Tony the Tiger would say, college is grrrrrrreat!! It has really let me do what I like to do ... 1) conversing with the foreign exchange students 2) walking by the river and stalking the blue heron 3) ordering cookies with my study buddies at 2 AM for delivery to the dorm 4) great research opportunities 5) having the course catalog out in front of me and knowing that I could do whatever I wanted and OSU probably has it 6) meet new people with different views 7) learn how to handle extreme frusteration, scheduling honors classes with only one section and it's at 8 AM! 8) see escaped cows in the field outside my dorm 9) study at the SEL library at 4 AM, it's open 24 hours a day! 10) make sushi with my new chinese and korean friends 11) get walked up to randomly by a group of people and be handed a valentine that said "VALENTINE, YOU MAKE ME ROAR" 12) contemplate the shortness of life... two employees got into a fight and one was shot and killed very close to my dorm 13) learn how beautiful a language Spanish is

Going to The Ohio State University has taught me the true meaning and values of the words community, camaraderie, school spirit, involvement, and most importantly, academics. I have never felt so welcome or at home as when I am on campus at Ohio State. Everyone is so nice and friendly, the professors and advisors go above and beyond to help you out, there is an unfathomable number of extra curricular activities that any one can (and does) take advantage of, and being here make me want to learn and makes it easy for me to learn. The environment here is just so unimaginable and it gives me the most perfect feeling of satisfaction and appreciation. Attending this school has been so valuable for me because of the endless options that are available concerning courses, majors, academic programs, clubs, athletics, etc. (and believe me I take advantage of everything this school offers).

Katherine

I've gotten a feel for the "real world," I suppose. OSU campus is so big you can't help but feel you're actually living in a city all on it's own. Did you know the campus even has it's own zipcode? But, anyway, I think this is important because a lot of incoming students don't know what's it's like to be on your own and having to take care of yourself. Most are used to their parents paying rent and buying food, cooking, cleaning. When you're in college, all of that is up to you, and it's time consuming, especially with classes in between. But I think it has been a valuable experience to me and I feel ready to go out an make my own living!

Courtney

I've gained much knowledge and learned about myself more than ever before. I am now achieving an education while at the same time growing up and taking on new responsibilities and challenges. I don't think it's an experience I could've gotten anywhere else other than Ohio State.

Tatiana

Coming to OSU, I was made aware of all the opportunities that await for me in the world. I am given the freedom to build my own future. There is no one telling me exactly what I need to do. OSU provides a set of suggested standards to students, then leaves them on their own to decide what's best. OSU is allowing me to pursue 3, maybe 4, majors and 2 minors. This takes a lot of work and requires me to take many classes, but my advisor and my professors have been the best when it comes to helping me stay on track and accomplish everything. I am motivated by my professors and my peers. My professors motivate me to do well in class so I get good grades and then a good job; my peers motivate me to do well in class so I get everything finished by the weekend and can spend some time with them! Most of all, however, OSU has taught me to motivate myself, to teach myself, to create my own destiny, and that, I am sure, will be the most important thing I take with me into the real world.

My college experience has hit me in a profound way because now I am certain that the path Have chosen is the right one for me. I went to Hofstra knowing i wanted to study music but i was unsure that it would sustain my interset or if I was good enough to complete. From the minute i arrived i was bombarded by material i didn't know. All i knew was to keep a beat on the drums but i never realized i would have to learn music history, music theory, harmony, counterpoint, ear-training, singing, piano, etc. Although it was difficult, i managed to understand and then accel in all aspects of music. I now love learning more and more about music and the more i learn the better i get. College has allowed me to immerse myself in passion and now i know that i have what it takes to accel in my field and stay interested in what i love.

Nora

In high school, I never knew exactly how to say what I meant. I had many ideas, brilliant ideas, but I didn't know how to articulate them. In my first quarter of school, I took a required English class where we had to read and analyze famous works of literature - a task that seemed very daunting to me at first because I had always hated writing and English classes. I had an outstanding professor, though, and without her and without great literature, my life would have never known the richness that can only be attained through reading. I learned how to question, how to have passion instead of apathy. I learned that things are not always as they seem to be. I think differently about books now. When I begin to read, I ask myself why the author wrote it, what they are trying to convey. The creation has to have meaning, otherwise it would not have been made. Going to college has been important to me because it revealed to me things I did not know about myself - that my greatest desires are to convey a truth to someone else and to make a difference in this world.

Allison

I have learned that no matter what gets in my way to receive an education, it will always be worth it to fight for that right. I have learned that being different from others can be a good thing.

Emily

I have gotten a lot of things out of my college experience. New friendships, a wonderful education, and independence. But I think the thing that I value the most other than an education of course, is the sense of community that I feel at The Ohio State University. Even though it is one of the largest student bodies and one of the largest campuses in the country, it still feels as if everyone at Ohio State belongs to one big family. Ohio State is like it's own little city inside Columbus and that it very valuble to me. I have felt so comfortable and welcome since the first moment I arrived on campus and that is a very important thing to me. I value everything I have learned so far and I think that the skills I have learned and the comfort I have felt in college so far will help me tremendously thoughout my life, along with the excellent education I am recieving.

Alexandra

I love my school. Deciding to go to The Ohio State University has been one of the best choices of my life. One of the greatest aspects of OSU is the diversity of students and staff. I have met so many great and diverse people at OSU and I have made a lot of true life-long friends. I have also learned so much at OSU. When I left my hometown to attend this university I had no idea what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Attending classes and learning from professors with real world experience I discovered my true passion. I also join a student organization, Dance Sport at OSU. I made so many great friends because of this club, I stayed in shape getting to dance everyday and I am now the Preisdent of the organization. My experience at Ohio State has been incredible and I wouldn't trade it for any other.

Andy

I have learned many things in College. I have garnerd friends, knowledge, and a proffessional network. I have discovered things I would never have discovered have nI not gone to college. I am currently a major in finance, and when I graduate, I will definitely be prepared to handle any financial transactions. I could only have attained this knowledge by attening college. Had I not, I would not be able to learn about any part of the economy, business, and finance. College is truely a large and wonderful experience.

Jaime

My college experience has taught me about time management, growth and development, group work, patience, acceptance, failure, and self worth.

Wyatt

So far I've been able to establish some independence and learn about life on my own. I've met many, many new people that I've had great times with in the dorms as well in the clasroom and out lying community centers and facilites. I've learned a lot more about discipline and and managing my time than I ever have had to use for any other reason in my life. I've learned team sport dynamics and how to balance the training, playing and traveling with my classes and study times. I learned that I HAVE A LOT MORE TO LEARN !

Abigail

So far, out of my one year of college experience, I have learned a lot about myself: my likes, dislikes, interests, what types of people I connect best to, how to be outgoing and personable with all types of people, how to accept other and different cultures, what I'm looking for in a career and life, and much more. It has been so valuable to me to meet all the professors, TA's, and friends that I have in my time here. They have helped me develop as a person and they have helped my career ambitions grow into great plans and goals. I am forever grateful for all the people and situations I have encountered at Ohio State that have made me who I am, and will continue to help me grow in a positive direction.

I have retrieved more knowledge then I could have dreamed of learning in high school. Since everything always changes it is very important to always learn more whenever possible, and college is the best way to get that. I have had some of the worst and best experiences since I have been enrolled in college, but those experiences taught me a little more everyday. I believe I am going to become very successful soon because of the information that college has taught me. Technology grows more everyday, therefore our brains have to grow with it. Even though you can learn a lot from only experience, college is where the money is at. So basically I have gotten a whole new career and aspect on life from just attending a few classes every semester.

Responsibility is the most important value that I got from the college experience. The first semester in college was hard for me; college and high school are two different environments. In high school students have a responsibility but not as high as the one they have in college. College is a way to start learning about the responsibility of life where parents won?t be always at our side when we need them. College tough me that I am the only one responsible for the classes I take and if I am going to attend to class or if I am going to be lazy and do nothing all day. In college responsibility is the most important part because this is the value that will help you to pass the classes, be tin class on time, present every homework on time and no late, and study as much that a student need to pass the test and the class. Pass the classes is one of the biggest challenge in college when a person is not really prepare. The first year or semester in college tough me that even if it is hard to achieve I have to keep trying.
