The experience so far that I have recieved is one of being rich and diverse. The amount of people that I have met have all been extremely friendly and open to building a good relation. Most of them are from different backgrounds and bring alot to the university experience as a whole. The college has provided me an intake of not only the people of what Ohio state residence are like or what American's are like, but also about how other people from other countries around the world are like. The value to me of attending this school is not only that it is one of the biggest ones out there, but I believe it is one that will help me gain succes in the career that I wish to pursue after graduating. The value to me of attending this school is the achievements that it lets me focus on and the experiences that I have gained. What I have gained from this university is to be cut throat open, confident, ambitious, creative and diverse.

I deserve this scholarship because I'm trying my best to help defray the cost for my parents. They are paying for my education and they make too much to get Federal Aid but not enough to pay the bills without loans or dipping into their retirement. I work summer and part-time jobs but it is not enough. Now that my sister is entering college in the fall of 2010, it will just get worse. I have learned to appreciate so much more now what my parents have done for my sister and I all of these years. Now that I have to budget the money and shop for groceries - I understand what it will take for me to earn a living for the rest of my life. Please give my application serious consideration - Thank you in advance.

During my first year attending Ohio Sate Marion I have gotten the experience to know a teacher more than in previous school years. Teachers at Ohio Sate respect you as an individual of the community and understand that you have more problems than just school work. This understanding offers students like myself to be able to get work handed in on time and learn without the shackles of time restraint pulling our legs and arms. I have earned the best grades that I have ever earned attending school this year and hope that my journey to main campus next year will continue to push my knowledge further and maybe one day I will stand among the great philosophers, artists, scientist, and those that have changed the world with the knowledge they had recieved in there youth.

I have learned that I get out of my education, what I put into it. This means that I must value each class and assignment. I find a way to make those things my own and do my best. Undstanding this, optimizes my learning. In other words, I find value in knowledge and I do not take my education for granted. Taking on responsiblility and being involved takes me outside of my small world, this makes me more marketable and prepared for my future. Investing in my education could be nothing but valuable.

I would have graduated in 1977 with my class, Instead , I dropped out in my senior year of high school. Now, I am 51 years old and since high school I have had a number of deadend jobs. I have cleaned houses, worked for a daycare as a helper at 16, I got into the production of personal computer. This may sound like a great career but, in my 25 to 30 years of production, I have received a number of back problems from standing all day 8 to 12 hour days. I have had two back surgery's. Getting up in the mornings just to stand with my feet on the floor HURT. Since I have enrolled in IBMC college, I feel I have hope that, even at 51 I can start a new career in an area of my intrest. I love going to school and I am a A- B grade student. I still have a year to go before I graduate, I am learning so much about the human body and medical terminalogy was like learning a new launguage!! I am on my way to a better life and I cant wait!

I am a freshman and I was told that I astounded some of my suite-mates because during my very first quarter they would see me sitting in other people's rooms; interacting and being a "social butterfly." And while I am a naturally social person, I am a bit shy when I'm first meeting someone. The reason that this wasn't a problem my first quarter was becase a male, Bryan, was open and friendly and told me to come over and sit on his and his roommates couch anytime; and just like that I felt a sort of acceptance. So being in college for just one quarter has taught me to be more outgoing and more friendly to people I don't know, because they may feel at ease with that sense of acceptance; just as I did.

My college experience and all the aspects of transitioning into adulthood have been incredibly valuable to me. Attending college was my first opportunity to have to stand entirely on my own feet. The process of choosing and registering for classes, expanding my social network, taking care of personal aspects, and balancing volunteering, employment and education while providing quality work for both all aided this process. The education I have received has created a greater appreciation for literature and language; select professors along the way have encouraged and inspired my love of literature and aspiration to educate our youth on the creativity and endless possibilities the subject has to offer. The college atmosphere allowed me to spread my wings into the adult world while creating a brighter future for not only myself, but my present and future family and the lives I hope to touch when entered the education career field.

Courtney

At Ohio State I have grown as a person both in and out of the classroom. Out of the classroom I have grown in the areas of religion, friendships, value of family, gratitude, patience, respect and understanding. All of this personal growth is valuable now and in the future; and I do not think that I would have experienced all of this if I had not moved away to college. The main value though comes from discovering who I am and breaking away from what is expected by family and society. In my life this was changing my major. I was always a great student in math and science and was promised a bright future in engineering; however, as I was developing who I was, I found that I held no desire or passion for engineering. I broke the standards placed on me and changed my major to Special Education. My actives and life at college has been such a valuable experience because they have changed how I see myself and the world. I am now pursuing an area of passion and interest for me and I hope to change the world not just be a part of it.

Calling it simply just a college experience undermines truly what I have went through. One word to describe my time in college thus far would have to be growth. Educationally, socially, morally, and mentally speaking, I have grown into such a different person in such a short amount of time. Because of this experience I have met so many different people from all over the world, and I value this just as much as the education I have gained. The people you meet truly change your life and by opening your eyes, ears, heart, and mind, you can learn more than you can ever hope to wish for, and that is what I have gotten out of this experience. These people are the valuable resources that helped me through college and will continue to do so throughout my future career.

Jill

My college experience is giving me a whole new outlook on my future. I have the confidence within myself to succseed. Attending college is valuable to not only myself, but my family as well. I am now recieving the education I need to obtain employment in the medical field. College is the best decision I have ever made. I would not be able to move forward with my life if I did not choose to attend school. For the first time in my life I can see light at the end of tunnel. I have a hope and desire to acheive my dreams. I could not put a price on the value of an education it is not an exspense it is an investment.

Destiny

The most important thing that I have learned from college is the kind of person I do not want to be and the kind of things I do not want to do. From there, it is a simple process of elimination in attempting to pursue a meaningful life. Many of my classes have taught me useful information and have expanded my ability to reason effectively. Nonetheless, I have decided that while college is useful for obtaining a degree and finding a high-paying job, it is superfluous in the grander scheme of what I hope to accomplish with my life. I do not wish to have a career. I would prefer to live in greater harmony with nature, in a community of close friends and family. In this way, my education can assist me in helping others and finding creative solutions to problems. Pursuing material gain is the antithesis to contentment, happiness, and a meaningful life. I am grateful to college for the things I have learned and the friends I have gained, but my college education will not define me or turn me into the typical discontented American consumer.

The reason I am here is to improve my life. It is hard to make the decesion to put your life on hold, move 200 miles, and attend school again for the first time in 15years. But this is what I have done, and what I have gotten out of it is yet to be realized. I have a long way to go, but if I make it all my sacerfice will not be for nothing. They will give a chance to see the world and to feel the satisfaction of acheveing my goals and to improve my life. it has been of vaule to me right out of the blocks a 3.9 and as I am writting this I have the chance for a 4.0. I have never even been close to these numbers, but I put hard work in and I reep what I sowed. And this is a very rewarding feeling.

Robert

My college experience has brought me into a different environment that helped prepare me for a professional environment. When i originally began college, I had little cultural knowledge of my own race. I grew up in a low-income African American community and always had African American friends. I never really related to the white race and it was always weird to me because I was myself white. College exposed me to my culture and helped me to understand different things that exist that are important to know and relate with inside of my ethnicity. I believe the experience of learning more about my background and exposing myself to my own ethnicity helped me to become an even more diverse person with an incredible background to pursue many things after college is finished.

Danielle

I have learned many important life lessons in college. I have learned the real meaning of hard work. College is not easy, and it takes a lot of time, commitment, and drive in order to suceed. I have found my true passion, nutrition. I know I want to work with the childhood obesity epidemic, and Ohio State has shown me this. I have made life long friends and learned how to get along with all types of people. I believe it is valuable to attend to find your true identity. College hands you a lot, and it is your job to find out how to manage all of the tasks at hand. It gives you a solid foundatioin of knowledge and the tools to survive in the real world. College also helps people to learn tolerance and respect for all types of people. I have learned more in the past four years about people than I have my entire life.

Joseph

The experience is amazing learning so much more than I every could have expected. Attending Ohio State will be valuable because I will receive my degree from there in hopes of working in the field I have chosen and love.

College has been an amazing experiance. I was fortunate to attend a college/highschool program called running start and I achieved 60 credits in college while attending high school. I believe that going to college at such a young age, set me apart from other high school students. I was able to chose the classes I wanted, I depended on myself to get good grades and I also learned a great deal of time management. I also had the chance to interact with a variety of other students ranging from 16 to 60. I had the chance to talk to my professors on a personal basis and was also given respect as a very young adult. I believe that starting college young has given me the chance to show the world that a person my age can be considered very mature and trustworthy. Also I was able to experiance college with the help and support of my friends, family, and teachers, without having to jump right into college after high school. Attending college has and will make me a better citizen and knowledgable human being. I can help people and learn from all aspects of life if I attend college.

I feel that I've far more at this college than merely earning a degree in my major. At first, that was all I was concerned about, and it was a simple if boring life. However, the passage of time eventually led me to discover a few things that I feel will help me a long time down the road. Some of these are the extra material I learned for my GPA, like political science, which will hopefully help me understand the world a little better. I also learned a few life skills to help me later in life. Finally, I earned a couple of friends during my time in the dorms, and while we don't see each other often, their presence has made a lasting impact on who I am to this day. I do not regret coming to Ohio State, and would do it again in a heart beat.

I attended college the fall after high school graduation, August 1991. I completed 1 full year, then didn't continue my education. I returned to school lspring semester 2009 as a wife, mom to 5 kids, and full-time medical transcriptionist. I was afraid that I would not get good grades, would not mesh with my fellow students because I was older, and just overall had an anxiety about returning to school after 17 years. Now, 1 year later, I absolutely love school, I have a 3.9 GPA, and I have finally figured out what I want to get my degree in. I have so much more confidence in myself since returning to school. I find myself excited at the beginning of each new semester. I have an achievable goal ahead of me and feel such immense pride that I am pursuing my degree. I have noticed that returning to school as a nontraditional student I care so much more about my grades, getting my assignments in on time, and doing my best work than I did when I attended directly after high school. I tell my peers all the time, "If I can do it, you can too."

This being my first year at OSU, I feel that I have gained so much more than I thought I ever would in high school. While in high school, I never studied or picked up a book after school hours. While, admittedly, that had very bad effects when I entered college, it also taught me how to study. Since I had never studied, I didn't know how. When I figured out the classes were tough, I was forced to learn. It's not easy, but I find that very valuable. Also, I've gained much more knowledge in the diversity of the college. I live in the International Dorm, so my roommate is Chinese. Although it was very difficult for me in the beginning because of many differences, I've learned alot about the culture and people. I've gained so much from my first year at Ohio State, and I'm thankful for my first year, even though it was a lot of work.

From this year alone, I have learned and grown a great amount from Ohio State University. I have had the opportunity to gain friends and contacts that will last a lifetime. Attending Ohio State has been valuable in allowing me to grow up away from home and realize what is right for me. I've learned better time management, prioritizing and responsibility. I have learned and taken on more independence through this first year. I have gained a lot from my first year at Ohio State and I continue to gain more each day here. Attending Ohio State has shaped me as a person, and will continue to do so throughout the next 3 years.

Kayla

I learned that I am capable of success and that I need to select a career that will keep me happy throughout life, no matter what anyone else wants for me. My college experience has allowed me to gain the knowledge necessary to perform in my career and I have made many new friends and future coworkers. It is worth it, to me, to keep attending college because I want to start on a future for my son. I am a young mother and I would like to be able to offer more for my son someday. Nothing is more important to me than my education at this time and I am prepared to do whatever it takes to get my degree.

Reece

More than anything, I have learned, and am still learning, the importance of thinking differently, the importance of being a genuine human being, and recognizing, understanding, and accepting the transience of a college experience. College is less of a lifetime event and more of a bridge that must be crossed in order to progress from childhood to adulthood. The unfortunate aspect is that each college student is engulfed in the most rapid, confusing, difficult, stressful, and demanding age of his or her life but also the most important for developing a firm foundation for adulthood. In other words, the first time that one is given the ultimate freedom to live and behave however he or she wishes coincides with the time when seriousness, genuineness, hard work, and patience are rewarded generously and when guidance is really needed. With that said, the college experience must be an individual process, a lesson which everyone approaches and exits differently, however, I will always believe the most important lessons learned are those which stem from experiences outside of the classroom.

Candice

During my college experience I have learned time managment. This is a very valuable lesson because in life one may recieve alot of work and personal things to do and one has to decide what he/she can handle and when is he/she going to do these things. I am planning on attending more semester so that I can learn many more valuable lessons.

Courtney

The greatest part of my college experience has been the amazing people I have met here on campus. My professors have inspired me with their teaching and encouragement, my advisors have helped to guide me along my path, and my friends have been there to help with the difficult transition from high school to college life. The inspiring people I have met here and the experiences I have gained have been invaluable and have led me towards a career in teaching. One day, I hope to be able to pass on the lessons that I have learned in my past few years at Ohio State.

lisa

I have learned so much since i have been in collaeg. I encourrage all high school students to get redy for collage.

The Ohio State University is a fantastic school and I could not see myself at any other institution. Through OSU I have learned the tools needed to succeed in the professional world after undergrad. I have learned the true value of building a comradery with colleagues and classmates as you never know how they might benefit you in the future. Although Ohio State has many resources that aid students through the college process and beyond, we are not spoiled and are allowed to make mistakes and learn lessons to live by. For example, it can become very easy to be distracted and let your grades slip with all the activities that ear offered on campus. In turn, by being successful we learn how to manage time and prioritize which is a skill that is vital in every aspect of life. It takes a special student to succeed at OSU but once we obtain a degree from this great university, it will hold a certain type of merit recognized by all we come in contact with. I truly love my school and recommend it to any and all driven and goal oriented individuals that are looking for great life long memories.

Kristin

Out of my college experience, I have obtained wisdom. Intelligence and book knowledge only gets a person so far in life; however, I have wisdom obtained through patience, sweat and tears. When I decided to take a break from my education, I worked full-time for various call centers and nearly had a nervous breakdown due to the stress. I made the decision to finish my college degree so that I would never have to endure that sort of job again. Ohio State University has helped me reach this goal by providing difficult cirriculum. This cirricula has given me the opportunity to work hard, face my fears, and ultimately has given me the patience to endure a career doing anything I want to do.

Jessica

The character qualities I have obtained are as follows: responsible, reliable, and relentless. I have to be responsible with my work ethic, studies, and servicing to my own needs now that I live on my own. Although I have always been an independent person, I have taken on so much more over the past year than I ever expected to encounter. The word reliable describes me well because I am a very consistent person, both academically and socially. I take my studies very seriously, and in regards to the social aspect, I try to provide for those in need. I believe reliability is a very important quality to have because it not only proves that I am stable with my life, but also when the time is important, dependability is crucial. The last word - relentless, is probably the best of the three words to describe myself. I have never given up on anything in my entire life. Also, being able to attend college is very valuable because I want to succeed in life, and obtaining a degree sets me up for the best potential. Pursuing a higher education is the most valuable decision I made.

Cory

The college experience is a word used that is so broad in terms but can be described in a few simple sentences. What you get ot of college is not only learned education and book smarts but the majority of college is real world experience and life situations. I have learned thus far how to start a day off at 7 in the morning and attend 5 or 6 hours of class. Then attending the library for another three before my time to go into work comes about. Then I work so college tuition and bills can be payed. This schedule is repeated and to me and is a vital sense of college to any teenager. Time management is learned and what it takes to challenge yourself so that your best traits come out in a time of pressure. The majority of what you learn in college is not book smarts or how to receive the best grade possible but more of what to expect when you first step foot in your new house alone with a responsible job and commitment to give yourself the best life possible.

Svetlana

I am the first one in my family to go to college and I am very glad that I have the opportunity to do so. I have gone to OSU for nearly two years and have learned a great deal from my instuctors. I have learned to actually study and finish my work because it is essential for completing a course. I always try to attend class so that i can get the most out of the lectures. This also helps for knowing the material for the exams and finals. I have also met and became friends with many people, and the large campus allows for this. It has been valuable for me to attend OSU because it is my step in life for getting the career that I want. If I get the Degree that I need, I will be able to do what I love and to help and support my family.

Chelsea

My college experience began before the first day of classes. For me, it started the day I received the acceptance letter in the mail. I was officially a buckeye. I already felt part of the team. I learned to live responsibly with my peers when I shared a dorm room with them. Instead of staying up all night like high school sleepovers, I had to buckle down, put first things first, but still save time for my friends. When the classes began, I realized the real challenge that this college offered. From the courses, I learned how to manage difficult tasks and comprehend complex theories and concepts. I gained a bunch of lasting relationships while playing of the women's club soccer team. Given the diversity on campus, I learned to appreciate cultures and beliefs other than my own. Overall, I think my whole journey through college so far has just helped me to figure out exactly who I am, what I can accomplish and how to reach my career goals.

William

I think that what I have most gotten out of my first year college experience is a serious appreciation for the amount of work that it truly takes to succeed. Being in college has forced me to not only become more responsible than I was in highschool, but also to become more proactive in the development of my future career goals. The experiences that I have had in college so far have been invaluable, and I feel that they will serve to truly help me become a more mature person, and successful adult, as they have forced me to go through serious personal growth.

Manique

From my college experience so far I?ve gained valuable skills and knowledge, lifelong friends, and hope for a successful career and future. College has given me a great opportunity to get involved in the things that I am passionate about and want to become passionate about. Students attend college each year for many different reasons. Whether it is to experience new things, meet new people, further our education, or get a better paying job in the future, all of it is going to help open numerous doors and help you to grow as a person so that you can get exactly what you want out of life. Even though college isn?t easy for some people ,with all other life demands the benefits of it outweigh the drawbacks in almost every case and definitely valuable to attend.

Jennifer

I have learned many things while attending college, however the most important thing I have learned is to be myself. I have learned the value of one's character and the quality of one's friends versus the quantity. In a society where judgement is everywhere, you have to learn that you can not let what anyone else thinks about you bother you; you are who you are and it should not matter who dislikes that. The people who love you for being you, are the only people that matter.

Bridget

Throughout my past two quarters at the Ohio State University I have received an excellent education, and with this came a big side of diversity. Never in my life have I been surrounded by so many different kinds of people, all gathered together for a similar cause. The hard work and ethics found at this University are unlike that of any other campus in the World. You as a student can do whatever you want to do, whenever. There are no limitations. The tradition and spirit found here in Columbus separates this school from the others. Whether it's Lane Avenue on a gameday or a performing arts show on Saturday, the population of people and their energy can invigorate and inspire you. You can not find experiences like this anywhere else. These special happenings make all your hard work and time worth it to attend the largest university in America.

Emily

From studying at OSU, I have been able to study abroad multiple times. Because of this, I have expanded my views on how I look at the world. I have also become more involved in church and volunteer groups. This has made me want to do more after I graduate with non-profit organizations.

Molly

I grew into the person I am today because of my experiences at OSU. I found life long friends and in July will be marrying my college sweetheart. We got engaged at Mirror Lake at OSU my senior year. It was the most magical moment of my life. Among the many moments I spent discovering myself and making lasting friendships, I recieved a wonderful education. OSU inspired me to embrace diversity and think in many different ways. I come from a small rural town with very little diversity . OSU has people from all walks of life and it challenged me to look at things in various ways. The pride and spirit this school has is simply amazing. Standing in a sea of red on football saturdays chanting OH-IO gives me goosebumps everytime. However, placing my arms around my neighbors and singing Carmen Ohio with 10,000 of my closest buckeyes is an irreplaceable feeling. I would recommend this school to anyone because it truly is a magical place. I know where ever I go in life I will always find a fellow buckeye. The saying is and will always be true "How firm thy friendship O-HI-O"

Amanda

What I have gotten out of my college experience is a sense of independance and a lot of opportunity. It has been valuable for me to attend Ohio State because there are many outstanding programs and classes to choose from and the instructors are very helpful. I have made awesome friends and I feel a sense of belonging here. There are many people from different countries and cultures at Ohio State, and I have learned a lot from meeting different types of people. Also, being a part of the Humanities Scholars program has given me access to many programs that have expanded my horizons.I have been lucky to meet some amazing people from being in the program.

Devon

My time at Ohio State has been life changing thus far. My freshman year roommate is now one of my best friends and I know she will be for the rest of my life. Outside from social gains, I have had plenty of educational benefits, as well. From the competitive classes, I have learned that not everything comes easy in life and I need to work hard in order to succeed. Likewise, I have so many great opportunies working with wonderful professors and students. Most valuable, though, will be the memories. I have enjoyed my time here at Ohio State and I know I will remember these experiences for the rest of my life.

Dayne

I have gotten a sense of accomplishment and pride. I have accomplished a lot being on my own for the first two quarters of my college career, and I am very proud to be making it virtually on my own, providing for myself in many ways. I feel a sense of pride being here and being a buckeye. I can take a higher education away from here and oppurtnities at better jobs based on my education that many don't get when attending just high school or a different institution other than the university I attend. I feel I have grown up a lot in the short amount of time I have spent away from home. I am learning new things dealing with life and education that I have never been exposed to before and it is great for me. These experiences are making me grow up and become more independent. So far, it has been a great experience, and I have taken a lot away from it. I can't wait to see what my future holds for me.

Megan

I've learned from my college experience that I can do anything that I set my mind to. I have been wanting to attend school for the last eight years, but due to becoming pregnant at a young age it was financially difficult. I've been the sole provider for myself and my daughter. It's been a valuable experience to attend, because I'm learning about all the abilities that I have that I've never noticed. My self esteem has increased because I feel good about myself!!

Valerie

I have been blessed to be accepted into a National Honors Fraternity called Phi Sigma Pi. Where I have gotten the chance to help our local community (Dowd Center: Homeless Families Foundation) and Teach for America. We have adopted a classroom in Chicago and provided it with great supplies to increase their learning. This group has become my greatest friends and made my college life more enjoyable.

Mandy

I have met some outstanding people during my time here. I have made friends that I look forward to knowing when I am much older. I have grown as a person both mentally and spiritually. The diversity here has forced me to look at things in new and profound ways, and I believe that by the time I graduate I will be on my way to being a successful and productive member of society.

Kathleen

My college experience has truly enabled me to become the intelligent, independent young women that I am today. As a junior at the Ohio State University, I find myself getting involved in students clubs and activities, as well as having an extremely busy and challenging schedule of classes. The skills and experiences that I have encountered while at college have allowed me to truly form and understand my academic and career goals. Becoming a high school science teacher is truly my passion in life, and without my unique college experience, I wouldn't have been able to set such a high career goal for myself. The Ohio State University has given me the confidence and ability to strive proudly toward my goal. My college experience has also enabled me to make lifelong best friends that give me encouragement and support in all that I do. Without these friends, all-night studying sessions and challenging courses would have seemed impossible to get through. By attending college, I have truly discovered who I am as a person, the friends that I want to make lifetime memories with, and the academic and career goals that I want to strive towards.

Karen

As the youngest of six and the only one to attend college, I have grown tremendously in the past two years. My parents have always taught me that education is the only thing in life that can never be taken away from you. I live by those words and everything I have done is because of them. My major is Musical Theater, and I will also complete an additional degree in Forensic Psychology. I have made the Dean's List twice and am on the Honor Roll list. Two years ago I lost my father and four years ago I lost my sister. I have overcome a great obstacle in my life and all that I have left is my mother and my education. I wish to someday be on the Broadway stage and make not only my family and friends porud, but to be proud of myself!

Chris

My college experience so far has been amazing. I have gotten involved in many student organizations, and have met many new friends. The traditions at my school have encouraged me to be an active member of the university community. In singing with the Men's Glee Club, I have met many important alumni from Ohio State, as well as the president of the university. Each time we sing "Carmen Ohio" (the alma mater of the school), I feel that I am part of something larger than myself. In addition to these extracurricular benefits, my classroom experiences have been valuable as well. I have completed about half of my coursework here, and I have learned many things about my chosen field of study, computer science. Ohio State is a research institution, and it shows in the type of education we receive in our major classes. When I graduate, I know I will feel confident that my degree was well worth it.

laura

I have learned the value of my mother first of all. She has worked hard and has given all she can for me and my siblings. My family comes first then my career. I have learned some realities in life, as far as other people and their way of life. I must have lived a more sheltered life than I realized but I wouldn't change history, it gives me the reason to go on and let me make a change in life, my life and my career and I promise I WILL enjoy what I will be doing, horticulture. I appreciate everything more and more and really like whom I am. I need to work harder or school work, I know, but only have to answer to myself everyday when I look into the mirror. I cannot let myself down, as it will reflect what I do. I am so happy to know what I wanted to do in life when I was 17 years old. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

APRIL

From my college experience I have been able to determine what I want to do with my life. From enrolling in various courses like art, anatomy, geology, astronomy, chinese, I have been able to learn of new found interests or dislikes. Going to college really widens a person's perspective on the world around them. If you don't have parents that tell you of the possiblities, or who encourage your dreams, college is a great place to experience the world yourself.
