I love Old Dominion University. I officially discovered what I wanted to do with my career while I have been attending ODU. I used to be a little iffy on whether I liked ODU because I had heard plenty of mixed feelings about the surrounding areas, but it has definitely grown on me, and there has never been a time where I have felt unsafe on campus. I have really found a home in Old Dominion University and I would recommend the school to anyone.

Old Dominion University is a very diverse and fun University. It's a taste of everything on campus and every group you could think of. If you want a group to be a part of this University you can make one at anytime. We even have a waffle fan club on campus. Having fun on campus is never a problem! You will have fun but at ODU students are almost always put their education first!

Old Dominion University is a well diverse campus with many different people from all types of backgrounds. There's always something to do on campus, you just need to go out and find it. Overall, it's a great urban campus that isn't too big or too small. Anyone would love ODU!

At first I was expecting rude professors that would not take the time to help-seeking students. I thought I would have to complete big assignments in little amounts of time, but as the semester went on I felt as if a large weight was lifted off of my shoulders. The teachers I reached out to for help were eager to help me and if the teacher was not available the supplemental instructors were able to answer my questions.

Old Dominion University is a multifaceted institution that contains many different organizations and majors which allows an individual to join in where they fit in. There is an immense presence of various cultural groups and there are programs and places where these students can go to not only adjust to life on an American college campus but also to maintain their cultural identity.

Old Dominion University is a very diverse and opportunity driven school. There are various activities that includes a wide range of student involvement that encourages individuals to feel more connected to the university, even if they are commuters. After attending Old Dominion University for two years now, I would not have chosen a better place for me to attend or feel more welcomed than this school.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

It was not long ago when Old Dominion University was regarded as one of the lower quality and less desirable schools in Virginia. Surprisingly, the university acknowledged this, and changed an extraordinary amounts of aspects of the school and its facilities. In the past 20 years, Old Dominion University has doubled its campus size, more than tripled their student body size, and completely revised the educational facilities to impose a much higher quality, more accessible academic program for the students themselves. With all of this comes new, modern dorms, new and updated academic buildings, new dining facilities, improved off-campus housing, and so much more. There is an almost absurd amount of options in terms of extra-curricular activities as there are more than 200, including: greek organizations, academic organizations, sports, and non-academic clubs There is no better time to apply and attend Old Dominion University, as it will be a significantly bigger all-around university in the near future.

Very good engineering school and I prefer it over any of the big name engineering schools in VA. All of dorms and academic buildings are decent and campus is ALWAYS growing and improving. I would recommend Old Dominion to anyone searching for an engineering school.

Living on campus at Old Dominion University has been a wonderful experience for me. I have formed many friendships with both people like me and not like me. I love walking around the beautiful campus talking and laughing with the other students and even the staff.

I believe I made the best choice for choosing Old Dominion University. This campus has everything a student would need and more! So far while living on campus, I feel like everyone respects one another and we’re a huge family. I was nervous about staying on campus, because I didn’t know what to expect. Luckily, I applied for on campus housing early, so I stay in the most recent freshman dorms. I live in a triple dorm which can be a headache sometimes but it’s fine. Our room is having enough private room for my roommates and I. We’re able to have our private space because our beds are in different directions in the room. In the beginning of the semester, we all had to have a meeting together to discuss personal rules and living arrangements to all agree and sign on. Overall, living in the dorms is fun and exciting. Our school has one the best athletic games. Every time I attend a football or basketball games, there’s never a dull moment in the room. The crowd is always loud and excited and people from other schools even come to watch. Old Dominion has over 100 clubs and organizations to participate in. No matter what your race, hobbies, or personality is, there is something on campus that will fit you. As a freshman, it’s required to be a part of at least one thing while attending the University. So far, I’ve been a part of one organization and club. This also helps the campus feel like a campus, because while being involved it’s easier to make new friends and meet new people. The food choices on campus are good, but they could be better. I go to Subway and Panda Express almost every day. I wish they had more selection of places to go to when it comes to certain students on a diet, or having the taste for healthier foods. Our dining halls are also good. Again, I wish they had more food opinions in the dining halls when it comes to our health. The classes I’ve took so far were great! I think my professors were very helpful and they were willing to help as long as you contact them first. In the beginning of each semester the professor will give you their office hours, in case you have any questions or need help. Although, being that I’m an art major my classes are almost 20 min away (walking distance). I wish there was something they had for art majors who live on campus so that we didn’t have to take that walk to class every time. Overall, the classes and professors are very helpful. Most of my classes were medium size, which means the teachers knew everyone’s names and personalities by the end of the semester. I believe that over half the campus are politically active. During the time voting was approaching, there were people who would stop us on campus to help us if we needed to register to vote or to simply give us information about the people who were running and any questions we may have. Old Dominion University openly support students to be politically active. Lastly, when it comes to having fun on campus there’s never an issue. Almost every weekend our school has major parties and events. Some of them are hosted by sorority/fraternities. People are involved in those groups, but I haven’t heard any negative situations happening while living on campus with them. I’ve witnessed students drinking and smoking at parties, but I never witnessed peer pressure. I also know that if the party seems to look too crowded, crazy or even looking like substances are being used, the school’s police will approach the event and shut it down for our safety. The school also have security throughout the campus that wears bright yellow jackets and is there if anyone feel harmed. The school has a transportation system called, “Safe Ride” that can pick any ODU student up to take them anywhere on campus for safety, weather or any other circumstances. I feel almost 100% safe while on campus, although I always let someone know where I’m going.
