I think Old Dominion University is a great school. There is a large, diverse group of students. Old Dominion is very welcoming and makes students feel excited about going to school. The professors that I’ve had so far, have been good and they’re always available outside of class for students who need one on one help. The class sizes range from 30-200 students. There are severally different food places on campus. Old Dominion offfers a wide range of extracurricular activities. Overall, I think Old Dominion is a great school. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is interested in going to a good college.

I am glad I made the choice to come to ODU. It has been a wonderful experience with people assisting me along the way. I feel as if no student is left behind. I am made aware of things education and recreational that will benefit my stay. My professors are all professionals and are available to me most of the time. I feel like part of a family here and that I find the support I need, even when I don't think I need it. It was the best/first decision I made on my own and I am proud I to be a Monarch.

I honestly love Old Dominion University, and I'm super glad that Old Dominion University was my first choice. My professors are great. They do their job well and you can always contact them and they'll respond within the first hour. The food on campus is okay. There's not much to choose from. There are a bunch of clubs and sports you can join. The housing is alright. It could be a bit better. A lot of times there is not heat/AC. They always seem to not have any hot showers for student. I personally don't live on campus, I commute. Overall I enjoy attending Old Dominion University!

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Old Dominion University is a great school, maybe not the best school in Virginia, but it is definitely near the top. Old Dominion is a very diverse school with a lot of great people of all backgrounds and interests, so it is not hard to find people who you identify with. Old Dominion University is in the heart of Norfolk, so the surrounding areas can be a bit dangerous, but the campus is generally safe as long as you take the proper precautions. The academics at Old Dominion are great, there are many opportunities for you to study a subject that you are interested in. Old Dominion University is an overall great school, with a few problems that do not really take away from the great academics and student life at the school.

Before I even seen any other schools, I knew that Old Dominion University was the school for me. I had a visit with a summer camp that I attended when I was 7 or 8 years old. I know what you might be thinking, "What does a 7 year old know about the perfect college to attend?" Well, I just knew. The environment was not too rowdy or too quiet, the campus was beautiful, and the food was amazing. At this point in time I did not see the dorms. When I visited a second time when I was middle school age, I saw the exact dorm I stay in today and realized that this was the school for me. Now, as a freshman attending here and staying in Gresham Hall, I enjoy every second of being a student here. I bleed blue and silver for life!

The Old Dominion University motto is “A Portal to New Worlds” and it stands by what it states. There are a variety of networking options available and they strive to create an inclusive environment. Going to a Minority Serving Institution, the level of diversity that exists within the school is immense; ranging from people within the state attending the school to those who live out of the country. It helps people to see the differences in culture that are around campus, giving a sense of perspective in understanding people for who they are. There are a range of organizations catered to any interest you may have and if you don’t find something of your interest, you have the right to start your own. It can open doors for you to build relationships with people who, in the long run, could help you in receiving jobs leading to possible careers. You don’t have to feel as though people at the university don’t care about your pursuit for success through providing services catered to various components ranging from tutoring services for help in classes to therapy services for those who may be feeling overwhelmed. Faculty and staff have an overall welcoming nature that makes it easy for students to develop relationships for possible future reference, having class size that can range from 15 students to 250 students depending upon what the subject may be. It could possibly help students understand not only how the teacher operates within his class, such as teaching styles and how they grade. All of these components of being a student at Old Dominion University make it worth not only the visit but the possible commitment as a future monarch.

Originally, I was planning to attend my fall semester at ODU. After attending their preview date, I found out that all the information I sent 6 months ago was not in their systems like my sat scores and my IB scores, which prevented me from signing for math and science, and English courses which are needed to meet the general prerequisites. In addition, after multiple attempts trying to talk with my advisor before my preview, she didn't respond. Everything from housing to registration to the dissemination of important info was a mess for me, So I hated ODU because of how they messed everything up for me.

I love the campus and the class sizes. The smaller class sizes (for the classes I have to take at least) help me focus and get to know the professors more. The music department seems smaller but that helps with becoming familiar with the professors and in getting quality help. I just wish there was more composition and recording assests. The parking is also another problem, but overall a great school.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I am a new freshman attending Old dominion University and so far everyone I have met has been helpful. There are plenty of organizations here for students to join and the Career Development Office has helped me so much when it comes to questions about federal work study, leap, or just regular employment. I know its kind of soon to be writing a review on my school being that I am a freshman and classes have yet to start, but I've had a great time so far participating in the different freshman activities and I'm sure these next few years will be just as great.
