Olivet Nazarene University Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Gina

How difficult it would be to find a balance that worked and suited me. Also, it would have been nice to know how hard it would be to be 8 hours away from my family.

Ashley

I wish I had more knowledge of the activities that occur on campus. Being a commuter student, I am not as involved in on-campus activies as I would like to be.

Kristen

That the weekends at school are filled with homework, tv, and Netflix.

Brooke

Before I came to Olivet I wish I would of known beforehand about the constant weather changes in the area.

Denise

I wish I had known about the Christian cousrse that you have to attend in order to get your degree. There are about four of them that have to be completed along with your other prerequistes. I think that time would be best for getting classes done that are needed for your degree.

Zachary

Nothing really, I felt like the school was represented accurately to me, and I love it now just as much as I thought I would.

Beth

Honestly this is a very good school and nothing in particular bothered me. I wish I had known that I was going to switch my major my junior year becuase then I would not have picked this school due to the high tuition price.

Emily

I wish I would have known all the little rules there are such as curfew, dress code, and no boys in the girls' dorms. I am okay with these rules, it was just a shock when I arrived here to see how strict everything is. I also wish I would have known how great all of the teachers here are. Knowing this would have made it much easier to choose this school. Teachers here really care about their students and do everything they can to help us.

Lauren

There is nothing that I wish I would have known before entering the school. I was very well informed and prepared before starting my freshman year at Olivet.

Wesley

I wish I had known that homework is just as important here as it is in High School. Sure, it's hardly ever fun, but it is still very important. And when you only have a semester for an entire class, it takes on an even bigger importance. The big thing you learn in college is that it is all up to you; I would venture to say a vast majority of the people that did not succeed in college did so because they didn't simply apply themselves.

stephanie

I wish I had a summer job the summer before college because the money can come in handy. There are lots of stuff that cost money. Also You can open a checking or savings account. Paying online is so much easier.

Alyssa

I wish I would have known how much God would change me. I have become a lot stronger in my faith. I am glad I didn't know too much because it is a great learning experience being a freshman and not knowing anyone.

Faith

I wish I had known that things are very different coming from home schooled to a more public school. It's a private school, yes.. but you still have to deal with other personalities. i also wish someone would have told me that I would need a car for some of my classes. It's not manditory but it does help in getting to where you need to go for field experience.

Tiffany

I would have liked to know about the temperature. It is brutally cold in the wintertime. It also would have been nice to know the hours of the cafeteria. The food service closes very early and sometimes it is difficult to find something to eat especially during late night hours.

Kelsey

The quality of the food and the cliqueyness of the people.

Brett

How expensive the community is and how conservative the people who attend the school are

Matt

The social life is bad. The rules and policies here are absurd. You can't wear shorts before 4:00 in the afternoon. You have curfew. The parking lots are ticketed relentlessly but campus security. With security in mind its worthless. The guards do not carry any weapons or tools for self defense. If there was ever a shooting you are waiting for the cops. This place is a mess. I highly encourage you to ask for and read the University Life Hand book (Rules) and then decide if this is where you want to come.

Lizzie

I wish I had known that Olivet would enforce the rules to all means necessary, I.E. search cars, rooms, etc. If you smoke or drink at all, like to stay out late, this is not the school for you.
