The OSU--Cascades campus provides a safe learning environment for students just like me. As a minority, high school didn't always feel safe because of the weird diversity proportionality; however, OSU--Cascades allows anyone and everyone to be welcome. From the moment you step in, you are greated equally as all the professors and other academic learners. The campus is small, unique, and great for a student looking for a rural feel and small class sizes (20 or less).
I think OSU-Cascades is a good school overall. It's convenient for those who wanted to be part of a University but couldn't afford it. It's a great way to be a part of the school without having to spend so much money. The faculty are extremely helpful and will help in any way they can which is great for keeping on track in college.
Wow I am upset, I have been attending this college for a year now withholding my comments with hopes things would either improve or I would check my expectations and realize I was acting on emotion, unfortunately neither is the case. I was absolutely disgusted when my research lead me to find out the difference in tuition between this significantly smaller campus with MUCH less facilities and hardly any availibility for variation in class times let alone any classes AT ALL for me to attend for my minor ( I am attending every last one of those classes online from the Corvallis campus; FRUSTRATING!) was less than $1,000. I'm paying that extra 1,000 I'm saving at the very least just to live in Bend, Oregon for which the cost of living sits at a 10% increase in comparison to Corvallis. The teachers have portrayed a lack of care for my education and half my assignments are graded by grad students who seem to fail to communicate with the teachers for which I have regularly had to make reparations. Do yourself a favor and attend the main campus or a attend a different school all together. If I hadn't purchased property out here while attending COCC (which is actually an AMAZING community college with great professors and I highly recommend it) I would NOT be attending OSU Cascades currently. If I can deter even one person from making the same mistake, then I have done my due diligence here. Attend COCC for your 2 year by all means, the teachers are amazing, the counselors are amazing, there are much more facilities including an actual field and a full staff (OSU Cascades didn't even have a biology advisor for probably a little over a month, Which was not ideal seeing as I'M A BIOLOGY MAJOR.) But steer clear if possible of OSU Cascades, they're making more than enough money off us fools paying nearly full price for half the facilities to never see any of the additional services, maybe in a few years this will be worth your money but unless you have money to blow I'd turn around now. And I understand, this cost of living increase if also going to apply to OSUs facility costs, but does that mean YOU should pay for their lack of funding while developing? NO, you really shouldn't. In 2019 the OSU president was making $630,000 annually. This year Ed Ray with his 6% pay increase he is now making $786,396 annually. Yes, lets bump our presidents 6 figure pay and make the kids who work in restaurants and attend our halfa** campus pay for the large sums of money we need allotted for development. Last but not least, Im alarmed by the reviews on drinking, I mean this is a beer capital. There's practically a brewery on every block, almost all of my classmates drink every night. Im alarmed theres not a single review that relects that.
I really like the friendly atmosphere that this campus has, and people seem to be very academically and professionally driven. The best part is that it is near several stores and this means it is easy to find a job and also there is a lot of support with finding resources to further your career goals.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Oregon State University-Cascades Campus is 65%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.
If I had the chance to travel back in time to 2007, the year I graduated High School, and give myself some advice it would be these statements. Never give up on your dreams, they are achievable, and money can not hold you back. Be yourself, don't let other people change who you are deep down inside, stay true to who you know you are and don't be afraid to have values that are different from other's. Allow for meaningful debate, don't get frustrated and anxious when someone questions your beliefs, stand up for them but also let the other person stand up for theirs. Who knows, maybe you'll change your mind! And last but not least, be strong, nothing can hold you down, you are woman hear you roar!
A person that loves the outdoors and is pretty liberal will love this school. The campus is very open minded even though there isn't a lot of diversity. The classes are very small which makes it so most of the professors know all of the students. I felt very welcomed and supported by the staff and other students.
This school gets the job done without a lot of flare.
Not only are my class mates driven & focused, but above all, my classmates illustrate a supportive team because they look out for me and keep me accountable for doing well in class and making me always want to give 100% of my effort.
I wish I would have learned how to more effectively balance my time between school, work and play. It would have saved me from a lot of stress and sleep loss, and I probably would have done better in a few of my more difficult classes. Good thing I figured it out at least halfway through!
The worst thing about OSU-Cascades is probably the fact that it's so small so class selection can be limited. Working toward a degree requires specific classes, and they are not all offered during a term or even two at this campus.
My school offers a very much appreciated and wonderful resource: free tutoring. Any subject, any time, numerous tutors! At most schools, tutoring is very expensive luxury few can afford, but at my school the tutors are more than willing to help students succeed. It is a wonderful thing to have my fellow peers, retired professors, and tutors of all subjects help me through any subject that I need help on. One word to best describe the atmosphere and attitude my school is "community". People work together and help each other because we all want to succeed.
The most frustrating thing about OSU-Cascades is the parking. Since we are connected to COCC, which is overcrowded as it is, finding parking can be incredibly difficult and frustrating because it makes you late to class and takes forever to get off campus after class.
