My opinion about Our Lady of the Lake University is that it's a family like school. From professors to facility members, they're always willing to help students succeed. I have met amazing people and am glad to be attending this campus; there's plenty of resources available for whatever students need. They are a religious based campus, so every now and then they'll invite students or encourage them to take part in daily masses or blessings for whatever occasions might be happening. All there is to it, is that I'm glad to be part of such a great university.
Our Lady of the Lake University is a great university full of opportunities for their students. I do wish the professors would teach a bit better though. They do try to help students and teach every class time they have, but their ways of teaching don't usually stick with students when they do it online. The pandemic has really caused a strain in the connection of the information being taught to the students. Otherwise, the teachers are pretty good at teaching if the class is in person.
I love the school. You can always find help when you need it- from the faculty or students- and there's always something to do with your friends. The campus is within 10 minutes of the Alamo, and the University offers many opportunities for volunteering or participating in a club.
I love my school and I appreciate the opportunity they've given me to be a student there. It's a small school with a small classroom size. You feel like the teachers know you and are really there to support you. You can really feel the culture of the campus when you get there and you know that you are home.

My classmates are awesome people! They are talented, smart, funny, nice and just have great personalities. They are there to help and tutor or just if you need a friend.
the fact that the school has opened more scholarships towards the athletic majors when i'm sorry but the other majors deserve them ......we are the ones that will actually make a difference....once the athlete injures themselves then they are done....i'm tired of having to pay 4 thousand dollars a semester for something when a person that really does nothing and gets a full ride....
The school is very small, I believe it has a very homie feel to it because of how small it is.

OLLU is a place for people who like a city with a town feel. It's a Catholic school, but neither mass, nor religion is required to attend. If you are the type who will need to have regular conversations with your professor outside of class, this is a good school to attend, as the professors are extremely available. The student body is less than 5,000 so classes will be pretty small as well. If you want to concentrate in liberal arts, science, social work, or speech pathology, this is a great school to attend.
Anyone who isn't serious about school. This is not a perty school, it's a place for community service and study.
On my first day of school, everyone greeted me with a smile. I am now starting the second semester of my second year and since then those smiles have not faded. The faculty, staff and students are all so willing to help and are very friendly. Because it is a smaller school, you're not just another number--you're family. Here at OLLU, everyone wants to see you succeed and will do whatever it takes to help you through your college experience. In 2009, the Main Building of the university caught fire. Although it was a tragic event, the outcome was not a disadvantage. Instead of causing OLLU to fall apart, it reinforced the university's meaning of "family" and united every member of the university. Since the remodeling of the Main Building, OLLU has received new equipment such as Smart-boards, computer labs, Macs and a television studio. Main Building has turned into a great study place where I find myself at nearly all the time. At OLLU, everyone is more than willing to help either with personal time and tutoring or the resources they have provided.

Most of the classes I have taken are all hands-on and interactive which is what I love about OLLU. One semester I took an Anatomy and Physiology class. At first I was really intimidated because science is not my forte. However, my professor turned the class that I was most dreading, into a class I could not wait to show up for! Instead of your typical lecture, she would move around, use illustrations and little anecdotes to describes the different functions and systems of the body. We even got to dissect a cat! I passed that class with an A, not because I'm a science wiz or a genius, but because my professor delivered the lecture in ways I could understand. The more classes I took, the more I found this was as a common pattern among the professors. As far as the students are concerned, the small community which makes up the Lake encourages them to help one another study. In class, your students become your family so its easy to ask one another for help. During midterms I'll meet with my classmates in the library for late-night study sessions and play study games, discuss lectures or make flashcards to help us do well in the class.
Since Our Lady of the Lake is a Catholic university, most people think only Catholics are accepted to OLLU. That's not true. At OLLU, there are wide range of students who practice other religions and beliefs. In my time at attending the lake, I have met several students and professors who come from various backgrounds such as Catholicism, Christianity or Buddhism. While attending here, I have never felt pressure from other people to convert to another religion. Another "stereotype" that may be associated with OLLU Is that the majority students who attend here identify with the Hispanic culture when in fact, there are a mixed number of different ethnic backgrounds. Our Lady of the Lake has a very active Study Abroad Program connected to places all around the world like China and Uganda so the stereotype that only Hispanics come to the Lake, is far from true. It is Our Lady of the Lake's diverse atmosphere that makes the college experience both comfortable and well rounded.
The two main highlights of the year are usually Spirit Day and Candlelight. Spirit Day takes place around the second month of school and represents welcoming the spirit of the new year. Its a free event filled with food, music and booths from all of the organizations on campus. Candlelight is OLLU's winter formal. During Candlelight, one of the main hallways are adorned with lights and garland that brings the Christmas spirit to life. Everyone dresses in their finest clothes for nice dinner with live entertainment, followed by caroling in the main hallway and concludes with a fun dance in the chapel auditorium. At OLLU, I am involved with the University Programming Council or UPC. As a member, I am in charge of planning the events and guest speakers/performances that come to the Lake. Every year, the chair memebers will go to a conference and pick from a showcase of actors, musicians, magicians and motivational speakers to hire to perform at OLLU. My favorite group on campus would be the LIFE program because it introduced me to most of the friends I have today. LIFE stands for Leadership Institute for Freshman Excellence which help freshman learn leadership skills to get them through college. OLLU is very spirited when it comes to their student organizations such as athletics, theater department, art programs and sororities and fraternities. Each department offers several events to keep students involved and busy. Athletics have trailers for their fans, most of the plays within the theater department are open auditions-meaning anyone within the university are welcome to audition and the sororities and fraternities on campus are always hosting events such as walk/run-a-thons, billiard tournaments and the annual Monster Mash Bash Halloween dance and costume contest. OLLU is not big when it comes to partying. There are a lot more social interactive events and gatherings within a family environment rather than the typical wild parties and "Greek Life" that are commonly associated with colleges.

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
