I wish that I had known that the college I attended in Florence Kentucky, to obtain my AA degree, in Medical Assisting, was accredited, by the same accredation that PBCC was accredited by; so that I could have transfered those credits (1 1/2 years worth, 78 -90 credits) to the University of Florida, so I can apply to the Veterinary Program, to earn my doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Now, that I know the credits do not transfer, I have to start my AA over/pay tuition again, to transfer the the univeristy, so that my degree will transfer. Bummer.
I wish I would've known that it is not a very great school in general. It is a community college, but many of the students that go here are unmotivated and so are some of the professors and employees. I wish I would've known that in this school, you're kind of on your own, because the advisers don't really help you out much, and everything takes forever, for example receiving financial aid information. Also, picking classes here are also frustrating, so I wish I would've known this too.
Before I came to Palm Beach State College I had no idea where my classes were located or how to get around from each building. I wish I would of known how to maneuver through the halls before my first day because embarassingly enough I was that freshman that could be spotted from a mile away! Another thing I wish I would of known was that they sell used textbooks; the amount of money you can save by buying used is unimaginable.
I wish I had known more about scholarships and Financial aid before coming to this college; mainly because I wouldn?t have had to work 2 jobs while raising my son to pay for my text books and tuition. If I could give any advice to new students coming to college it would be to consider all options and speak with your counselors they have tons of information to help struggling students complete there degree in a timely manner.
I wish i had known all the steps its takes to get hear. I had the mind set that i could just focus on high school and when i got to the point of college, it would be easy to apply. I know i need to work as hard as i can, like i always do. I know now to never put things off to the last minute annd focus on now and the future all at the same time. It's important to be prepared and procrastination cannot be an option.
I wish I would have known more about the campus before I went to the school. I always visited the school every now and then but always became confused. I now attend the same college that I used to visit and still get confused. I know important places, such as the admissions office, cafeteria, and library, but small parts of the campus that I'm not familiar with elude me every time.
What I wish I would have known before I came to PBSC, is that this school is very straight- forward. It's not like your dream school, just something for you to start out with. I think this school is much affordable, but I would'nt want to continue my education here.
I wish I had known that I can rent books instead of buying them. Text books are very expensive and I save alot of money now that I rent them. I also wish I had known more about the process of transferring to a university from a community college.
As previously mentioned, I have not yet spent time on campus, though I wish I had done a little more research into the housing cost in South Florida. Thankfully my friend found us someone to room with who will bring our rent/person way down.
I wish I had known that the campus was undergoing construction. The construction makes it very difficult to find your way across campus. I keep finding new pathways closed for construction, and I have to find a new route to my classes.
