Be prepared for an extremely diverse student body and remember to keep an open mind. You ill have students from all walks of life and over 100 different countries and you may be uncomfortable or you may love it. Also remember that developing study habits is imperative to be successful academically here. Some classes are harder than others of course but you must manage your time efficiently. Dont be afraid to get involved with activities on campus, they will really enhance your ability to make friends and enhance your overall academic experience. This is a dry campus so be prepared.
My last University that I attended was Tuskegee University, which is a University where students will experience the full college life. But the school that I attend now, Park University, doesn't have everything that a typical University offers. One thing that I wish I had known before I came to this school is how long the classes were going to be. At my last school, the classes were only an hour to an hour and a half, but at this school one class can start at 4:50pm to 10pm.
Before I came to Park University I wish I had known how hard online classes are. Every week we are assigned a Discusission question that requires a 300 word response with references. I feel that this method reinforces the materaial being taught by ensuring that students read the required text.
I looked at my degree audit and knew the classes that i needed. And also to apply for financial aid
I wish I had known that Park University for my undergraduate school was easier than most schools, because I may have selected differently. I really didn't feel like I learned as much as I could while I was there because the classes just seemed too easy.
Many students who come to Park tend to be apathetic to the college experience they COULD be receiving. Many students don't take advantage of events on campus and various other activities. It is easy to make friends, though, and it's easy to get involved in doing those on-campus activities if that's what you're looking for. Also, the student assistance center is sometimes not very put together... but they eventually get things right.
Teachers are not full-time and some seem like they don't care.
I wish that I would've known that it didn't have a film department before I came.
