Pasadena City College Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I had known that education is meant to be purposeful. When I declined four year universities, I thought I was making a huge mistake, everyone told me I was an idiot for doing so, but my time here has made me realize that I have the potential and agency to make my life into whatever I want it to be. I would have told myself to be unafraid of attending Pasadena City College, because in reality there was nothing to fear. I wish I had known that my time at PCC was going to be memorable and inspiring.

I wish I would have taken classes as a high school junior and senior to have more credits done. If I had taken one class per semester during high school I'd probably have around 20 units completed already. I did work during my senior year but I'd probably tell myself to apply for my job at Chipotle instead of working at the movie theatre first. I do not have many regrets besides not taking college courses during high school.

Because I am the first in my family to continue to a college I was completely disoriented. I had no idea who to get help from, were to start what classes to take. I would have loved to know that there were offices were I could get further help relating to financial help as well as administrative and free tutoring such as eop?s department.

Before I attended Pasadena City College I wish I knew more about financial aid. I've always wanted to go to college at the university level, but because of my family's financial struggles I had to attend a junior college first. Since I started at my school I've had meetings with teachers, coaches, and couselors about what steps I must take and what is needed for me to get any amount or kind of finacial aid. If I had the knowledge about financial aid that I do now, I believe we would've been more prepared for college.

The value of focus. True happiness comes from the ability to follow a dream to it ultimate fruition. When I first started at Pasadena City College, I bounced around from class to class, from major to major, lacking the ability to truly listen to my inner desire and the courage to stick it out.

I wish I had known that textbooks cost a lot of money and I should consider many of them an investment for future classes and learning. I used to just be excited to sell them all back to get what money I could for the next semester, but there is tremendous value in also highlighting and marking up books and keeping them as part of a growing personal reference library.

Before attending this school I wish I had known about the clubs. I did not find out that there was so many clubs that did much volunteer service for the disadvantaged and the less fortune people out there. These clubs give me much fulfillment in my life because it feels good to help the less fortunate by donating clothes or giving food. There are also many clubs with different interests, such as the environmental club and the feminist club. With so many different interests anyone can find a club that suits them.

I wanted to know if becoming a writer was the best choice for my life. I would love to learn more about the school and what type of majors they offer in the school. The best thing the school should have are better teachers who have the time to help the students with the work they are doing and staff to help the students better at helping choosing a career.
