Pennsylvania State University-Main Campus Top Questions

Why did you decide to go to this school?

Kathryn

I decided to come to Penn State because I want to work in athletics and I want a world class education simultaneously. I love the size of the school and I love that people have lots of different backgrounds, despite the lack of diversity racially. I love the school spirit and the opportunities for networking and the huge alumni base that Penn State has.

I chose to come to Penn State because from the moment that I first stepped onto the campus during my tour, I immediately felt a strong sense of belonging, support, and the aura of a family environment. I had come from a small high school and I knew that if I felt so comfortable on campus during the tour, I knew that I would feel 'at home' at a large school like Penn State.

I decided to go to Penn State because I knew that I would get a great education while still having the opportunity to have an exciting social life. I wanted to experience the passion and pride students and alumni possess. I also knew that a degree from Penn State would extend further than my four years there, from the education I would receive as well as the connections I could make with alumni, who are all over the world. The Penn State name carries a lot of weight.

I originally wanted to attend a small, liberal arts school. But I found that within a week, the PennState campus got smaller and smaller. You pass multiple people you know throughout the day, and you meet new friends who happen to have mutual friends with you, either through college or through past experiences in highschool.

I actually applied to Penn State last out of 9 different schools. I never really considered it until I came to visit. It was the first weekend in spring and all of the students seemed to be outside, soaking up the fresh air. We walked around, and different students would yell "we are" to us and we would respond Penn State. I was amazed at how genuine the campus felt. Penn State is not only beautiful, but the students seemed so happy to be there. I wanted to be a part of that.

I was the little girl who sat in her living room on Saturdays watching the PSU game with her family, while wearing a cheer leading outfit. At one point in my life, I thought the only college that existed was Penn State. I had the grades to go to any school that I wanted, but Penn State felt right. For me, Penn State is about being a part of something that is bigger than yourself. It's about being a part of pride and tradition. When I took a tour of Penn State, I could see myself spending four years here. Visiting Penn State felt like I was coming home.

I decided to attend Penn State for a few reasons: 1.) They had programs that suited my interests. 2.) There is space...if I didn't like something, I wasn't stuck with the same 20 people for the next 4 years. 3.) The atmosphere was friendly and lacking that judgmental high-school feel...I felt safe to walk around and explore whenever I wanted. 4.) There were many job opportunities
