After studying for one academic year at Hazleton, I can honestly say that Hazleton was not for me. It is a very small campus, therefore you see the same things each day and there is scarcely anything to do. If you are from a city like Philadelphia or NYC, Hazleton may not be the ideal branch campus for you, although you could take a fifteen dollar van to these metropolitan areas. The surrounding area of Penn State Hazleton is indeed, very plain. If you want something to do, be sure to have a car for transportation. On campus clubs also are available to participate in at Hazleton. Being able to get involved will lessen the feeling of boredom or inactivity. As for the academia, challenging courses are available and instructed by really good intellectual thinkers here. That being said, Hazleton is a great campus when focusing on solely on academics. The professors are always willing to assist students in any challenges or difficulties, as long as the students are willing to put in the effort.

Tatiana

It is a beautiful campus and the professors and administration cares but there is nothing to do and campus is too small to have multiple clubs here. There is a small amount of things to do and there is no transportation on weekends. Overall it is okay.

Nadia

it is small but affordable. easy to keep grades up.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I have recieved a great amount of independence while attending Penn State. Since coming here I have recieved the oppurtunity to get a good education while stilling being able to live at home. When I first attended Penn State I had originally lived on campus. While living here I didn't apperciate the oppurtunity of living on campus and how conveniet it was for me to just walk to class. Half way through my first semester I had found out my family could no longer afford for me to live on campus. When that news was brought to my attention I was destroyed. I was given the option to go somewhere else but choose to commute an hour everyday to get an education. It's valuable for me to attend collge because once i have successfully completed each class it is bringing me two steps closer to becoming the first in my family to have complete highschool and college.

  4. What's unique about your campus?

The professors are really down to earth and know how to get across what they want you to know. The student community seems to be very close knit and extremely friendly. Even the lunch ladies make you feel welcome. The classes are designed to better prepare you for college during your first two years of college, which was extremely helpful to me. There are often activities on campus and going to any Penn State campus allows access to all Penn State events.

  5. What kind of person should not attend this school?

If you are really dependent on financial aid as a way to fund your education, Penn State simply isn't for you. The administration believes that the cost of tuition is low enough and there are very few sources of aid directly from the school. It's even worse if you are an out of state student because the tuition is more expensive in that case.

  7. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about this campus is that it lacks alot of things you would expect at college, based off what the media potrays. Sometimes it feels like your missing out on the actual college experience because of the lack of fraternites, sorritories and sports. The size of campus also becomes a problem, because after a while its like your seeing the same people, over and over again.

  10. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

What I personally consider the worst thing about the Penn State hazleton campus is the frequency in which the bus comes. The bus comes on campus every other hour which is hard to get used to when you come from a city where the bus comes every ten minutes. Let's just say if your in a hurry to get somewhere, the last thing you want to do is miss the bus.

  11. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

What sets apart Penn State hazleton from the other schools I was considering is the small, intimate campus setting. It allows for students to receive the maximum attention needed in class from their professors. The small campus setting is also ideal for students that are not quite ready to attend a large university. This school exhibits school spirit that is extremely infectious.

  12. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

I never brag about my school. The only thing I would ever say that was fun about it was being with my close friends while I am here. The area around this school isn't that great, but it does offer a lot of job opportunities. THON is also always an amazing experience.
