Pepperdine University Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Lauren

With its small student to teacher ratio, strong Christian values, campus overlooking the ocean, study abroad programs, and outstanding education, there is not much to be frustrated by with Pepperdine except for the cost. I am thankful for the amazing opportunity to attend this school, and I will continue to trust God to provide for me financially.

Mackenzie

The most frustrating thing about my school is the lack of school spirit. The sports teams at Pepperdine are highly talented, yet a vast majority of the student body does not care to attend games and support out athletes.

Kelly

Pepperdine tends to be a lonely place, despite the general happiness and kindness of the students. It's not super easy to put yourself out there, especially coming from the high school mentality. There's an understanding that everyone has their own path to follow too. Everyone works hard for their goals and as a result there is a feeling of loneliness.

Carissa

Lack of passion is the most frustrating thing to me. At Pepperdine, overall, there is a very relaxed, social ethos. There is not much intellectual growth or stimulation outside of the classroom, and most people would rather talk about Greek life than Ideas. I want to see more passion among my peers about things that matter. I want to make a difference in the world, and find others who do as well, and get together and talk about ways to do so and be united in bringing awareness, protesting, or making daily life changes that reflect our values.

One Stop is the on-campus help for scheduling. It has its name because it is supposed to only take one stop to get your schedule figured out. It never only takes one trip there. It is better to just add/drop classes on your own with the help of an upperclassman.

Patrick

The most frustrating thing about Pepperdine is the lack of space to study (especially during finals week). I'm one of those people who like to study outside of his dormroom and the library is usually filled with people. I usually spend fifteen to thirty minutes trying to find a spot to study.

Edward

Getting around the neighborhood, if you don't have a car you will be stuck on campus especially on the weekend, unless you have friends to drive you around. School spirit it kind of dead because majority do not attend basketball games, volleyball and etc, but the few that do attend make it fun when you attend the games.

Jalessa

The most frustrating thing about Pepperdine University is the amount of stairs a person has to climb up and down on a daily basis. You will get a workout every day for sure, but it can be annoying, especially on a hot day. Other than that the school is great! Who would not love the beautiful ocean view and the valley the school sits in?

Clara

I have nothing seriously frustrating to say about Pepperdine except for the fact that there are too many stairs to climb and not enough consideration towards the handicapped students that may not be able to walk on stairs. In addition, it would be nicer if the school did not force us to move out so quickly after our last final.

British

The most frustrating thing is the grading scale. There are A's and A-'s but no A+'s which makes it feel like the University doesn't want you to suceed. It does not seem fair that you can make a low A but not a high one. It just seems like one's hardwork is going to waste.

Dayanne

The most frustrating thing about Pepperdine is definetely that it is located in a very upscale town which is not college friendly at all. There isn't an abundance of fast food restaurants, Targets, or even shopping centers to find jobs at which makes everything so much more difficult. Not to mention that the location of the school makes it nearly immpossible to venture out without a car on campus.

Hope

The most frustrating thing about Pepperdine is absolutely nothing. I have been able to grow as a person here in many ways that I never thought I could. My faith has grown in so many ways and so has my learning. I am changing and molding into a better person everyday. The professors are great and so are my peers. Pepperdine is awesome.

Stephanie

We have a major parking problem so you have to allot time to find a spot before class.

Dayanne

Pepperdine is a great school, and while malibu is a beautiful city, I do believe it's definitely not a college town. It can get a tad frustrating when you want to go off campus, becasuse if you don't have a car, or a friend doesn't have one, then it is nearly impossible to go out. The fact that both the beach and local shopping center are at least 30 minutes away in walking distance sometimes discourages students from exploring the surrounding areas of the University.

Kailey

There is an unusually high amount of very steep stairs everywhere on campus that you never quite get used to. By the time you reach the top you always feel a tad winded, even if you are in shape! Be prepared for the first week to be a tad rough.

Natalee

lots of rules

Terrell

Nothing.

Keiy

Convocation and extensive general education listing.

Aubrey

The most frustrating thing about Pepperdine is the horrible cafeteria food. They sign only one company as the provider of food, giving them a monopoly over pricing. As a result, tiny portions of food of a terrible quality are extremely expensive, and the students who have a meal plan have no choice but to give in. It is progressively getting worse.

Alison

The Intercultural Office is unnecessary and causes problems on campus that do not exist and creates more trouble than good.

Jessica

The most frustrating thing about my university is the lack of campus activies on weekends.

Brittany

That when you get affiliated with an organization you know everyone on campus. It is nice to meet more new people every once in a while.

Sasha

the conservatives and the isolation of the campus

Luci

Sometimes it is difficult to communicate with faculty or understand the website (ex. to find out more about being involved in activities).

Andrew

Balancing one's social life with school work and work.

Krystal

The administration's distribution of finances. They encourage service, yet waste funds on beautifying a school that's already beautiful rather than it going to the students.

Alison

The general requirements that often require more of a students than the classes they actually care about.

Bonnie

Probably the most frustrating thing at the moment is the amount of construction Pepperdine is undergoing. Almost all of main campus is being rebuilt or built up more. One of the things Pepperdine is generally most well known for is how beautiful it is. So, it was very dissappointing to show up on campus this year and find black tarps and metal machinery everywhere.

Tera

The most frustrating thing is the availability of open classes. the class sizes are small, but that means there are less seats. Some classe sare only offered once a year so if a student cannot make it into a necessary class, they have to wait a whole year to take it which causes 5-yr college careers.
