Philadelphia University Top Questions

What are the academics like at your school?

Brittany

Everything is awesome. First of all, the professors push you to the next level and help you along the way. When the subjects gets harder there are students who have succeeded to help you and there is also free tutoring; which helps a lot.

Catherine

Our programs are very strong, and we use equipment from the industry. People are always astonished by our equipment. We also have well known and involved professors. They are not just teachers they come directly from the field they are working in and have actual experience. The student to teacher ratio is 14:1 and you always get that personal attention in all of your classes. The teachers learn your name and tend to learn you as a whole being.

Academics are really great at PhilaU. Our courses are rigorous, but not in an absurd way. Our professors push us enough so that we may perform at our best and they encourage us to seek help and ask questions so that we may do well not only in our classes, but also once we graduate. Every single one of my teachers knows my name, and so does my advisor and even my bosses at my job on campus. Professors are there for you, they actually care about how you're doing. I am currently a junior, and one of my professors from freshman year still sends me emails about scholarships and such things. Professors, and other help the school provides you with (such as tutors, career services, advisors) make you feel like you can really succeed in your career.

Academics are great here at PhilaU. The small class sizes keep professors more able to help students both in class and outside of classes. If someone has a good work ethic and is dedicated to their schoolwork, PhilaU is great academically.

As a Biology major each of my science professors know my name and my hobbies. As a junior; I have had many of the same professors which I have build relationships with and became a better student. I study every night of the week during the school year just so I don't get behind on work.

Veronica

I have had mostly wonderful professors. They are accessible and enthusiastic. Some classes are tougher than others, but classes within your major are usually pretty intense. I don't know about other majors, but I know that at least in architecture we can never get away from talking about our projects and our work outside of class. Sometimes we have to designate a dinner as a design-free zone so we can get away from it for a while. Sometimes professors will come in outside of class time to help us, too. Not all classes are like this, of course. The courses here are all very practical, though. The majors at PhilaU are very geared toward real world knowledge that you can use when you enter the work force.

Natasha

There are a variety of classes ranging from foundation design to microbiology! Often non-design major take a design class as an elective and there are some design majors that take a science course or liberal arts course. The freedom to do whatever with your schedule is great. The class sizes are small which allows more questions to be asked during class time. It also why professors know when you are and aren't in class. Not only do the professors take the time to get to know you but they are also more than eager to help you with the course material beyond class time.

Tara

The classes and professors here are great. I am an Architecture student and most of my professors are actual working architects. I have gained great knowledge of the field from people who actually experiance it everyday, and i know that this is a standard for all of our professors on campus.

Katie

They are pretty awesome. The class sizes are relatively small, especially when you get into your major specific courses. The professors will go out of their way to help you, including finding you internships. The majority of the fashion professors are still currently working in industry and/or still have strong connections with several companies.

Trevor

The professors here have office hours for you to come in and talk to them about any problems. Some professors will even come onto campus to help you, even if they are not suppose to be on campus due to no classes for them. They make you work harder then ever before, but you get so much out of it. I love it!

Claire

The academics here have been a perfect match for me. If you work hard and put the time in, you'll be rewarded. There are lots of resources to help! We have a great Learning and Advising center with tutoring in case you feel lost. Professors have also been really willing to help. They're required to have office hours if you need to go in, and you can also make an appointment. Those are great opportunities for one-on-one time to better understand something you missed in class. I did a lot of really cool projects in my Intro to Engineering class. My favorite was with the robot - it was so interesting to write a program and then watch the robot do what you asked. It was a great way to see your work turn into a final product!
