Assuming I could go back in time to say something to myself during high school, I would have to pass on the oppurtunity that I was presented to me. The Reason is simple I prefer to learn from experience and not from what one person says is true.

I am twenty three years old and currently a sophmore in college. My parents no longer pay my bills and I work two jobs to support myself. When I graduated high school I moved to California and it took less than a year to drop out of college. Knowing all the hard work I have to put in today, I would tell myself not to give up and not to take the route I thought would be easier. The path that I thought would be easier (working as a shift manager at Starbucks) turned out not to be so great. I made so many mistakes that I look back and just cringe at the memory. I would tell my eighteen year old self "Do not give up. Do not think the money you are making now is enough money to earn a living because you are going back to Pennsylvania and live with Mom and Dad again." I wish I knew that back when I was eighteen and a senior in high school with big plans that would never actually work out.

If I could go back in time to my high school senior year and talk to myself, I would tell myself 3 things that are necessary to becoming successful. First thing i would tell myself self is to not ever be lazy! Start practicing good study skills, making time to study, and taking good notes. Not studying and being lazywas one of my b iggest scatomas I overcame . The second thing I would tell myself is to become more involved in school and/or my community. I now realize how important and good helping out or getting involved is. I could have done so much more for my school/community. The last thing I would tell myself is to help myself by getting to know what is going on around me. I used not care about the news or what was going on around me, but I now realize the importance of it. It helps to have knowledge about things big or small, medically or physiologically. I've began to research things about what is going on in the world , it makes me feel up-to-date and apart of this world.

The transition from high school to college is a major life change. You are being removed from an enviroment where you are over seen by your parents to one where your completely on your own. An enviroment where you might have to make decisions on your own without being able to discuss them with your Mom and Dad. Eventually you may live in a non- dorm residence and will have the added responsibility for paying the bills, getting up on time, keeping the place clean and cooking your own food. All the responsibilites of living on your own plus studying to be the best you can be in your major and even having a job can be intimidating and stessful. My advice is to keep a close relationsip with your family, your church and and, most importantly, your faith.

If i could go back and give myself advice, it would have been to take highschool more seriously and i would have done more extracuricular activities to make my college applications look better.
