Seriously, I've been Downtown Detroit and North Korea and felt a million times safer there than I ever did on campus. During my time as a student, I had dealt with death threats from a dining services employee, as another one stole my credit card and used it, I had been racially profiled in the student center, where the Office of Student conduct employee also made inappropriate comments regarding my weight and another student inappropriately touched me in a way that made me feel uncomfortable and the Office of Student Conduct/Fitness Center Employees people did nothing about it and I know they weren't going to. I also witnessed two Point Park Staff member assault another student and when I reported it, that incident was completely ignored. Another thing, good luck getting assistance from professors or supportive staff if you have a learning disability - It's not happening! Even though they are supposed to accommodate students with disabilities, I fail to be convinced that any employee from the school would've helped. I tried and the response I got was, "couldn't be that screwed if you got here". Professors are just going to threaten to give you bad grades on essays or PowerPoint projects or threaten to report you to the Deans if you dare to ask them to accommodate you for having a disability. Do not let their small student-to-instructor ratio fool you! The staff there, especially Public Safety and Student Conduct made it very clear to me that I am of no worth, just dollar signs. And also, this school is extremely ultra conservative and preachy towards Christian views, despite not being an actual religious institution. If I wanted to be preached to, I would've just gone to Geneva College or Duquesne University or some other religious institution, not this place. And I too, felt like I really didn't really learn a whole lot in my classes related to my major.

I regret spending my freshman year here. If you're not a theatre/dance major, they don't care about you. The food is bad, the location is kind of dangerous, and the classes barely taught me anything at all. You're definitely not getting your money's worth here. A bunch of people from my class ended up transferring because nobody liked it. You've been warned.

Point Park is nothing like anything I have ever seen. They have a major for anything creative and artistic. They have a major specifically for screenwriting. Not many othe colleges do that, normally they’ll put it under the same category as English and literature, but not Point Park University. Seeing them put effort in and having a major specifically for what I want makes me feel special and makes me believe that I, the student, is their first and upmost priority. Not to mention the facility staff is amazing. I have not attended the school yet, it so far every facility member I have meet are the most helpful and kindest people I’ve could ask for. From what I saw in the VR tour the housing, both on campus and off, are just what I need. Nothing too big nor too small. I have also explored the shopping areas and I just adore all the locally owned businesses along with my favorite name brand stores. In all honesty I cannot wait till I have the opportunity to take an actual tour, or shadow a student. It makes me want to apply for them right now just thinking about it!

My experience at Point Park has been mixed. Most of it has been good, since the staff and students are friendly, and I've learned more in the past year about film than my last three years of high school. The campus is also easy to access and move around in. However, on campus living has given me some headaches, primarily with dining as some of the food is not the best and options are decently limited. Overall, Point Park University has satisfied me in terms of campus life and academics, while also giving me a couple complaints about living on campus.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

    You must not expect that you are going to know exactly what you want to do with the rest of your life. There is so much emphasis on what you want to study in college but don't think you have to pick a major when you apply. In todays work force the average person is changing their career three times in their lifetime. I suggest instead of initially declaring a major, use your Freshman year to take a variety of classes in all different areas of study that sound interesting to you. For me these would be: Art classes, cooking, phsycology, cake decorating, women's studies, environmental studies, Fashion Design, Travel and forensic science. These are all topics in which I have interest but I never knew exactly what I wanted to pursue because I was never exposed to many of these in highschool. In the end take your time you have your whole life ahead of you to decide what you want to do to make you happy. Enjoy taking classes that interest you and you will find your true passion.

    How good our program is and how much hands-on experience there is. I love the small classrooms and how personal the staff is. Each professor really knows who you are and cares about your success. We offer a lot of master classes from industry professionals. Students really can impact the school and make changes.

  9. What kind of person should not attend this school?

    Anyone that doesn't like the city should not come here. We are a loud, urban campus that is always alive and doing something. Also anyone that is a homophobic should probably not attend this school, as we welcome all lifestyles. We are known for our performing arts program, but our academics are just as good. Anyone that is a big college sports fan should not come here, as our athletic programs are not great.

    My school is very diverse, I have many people from not only across the country but also the world. My professors are indefintely reliable and dependable. The experience my professors have are preparing me for my future. My classes are not very big either, at most 25 people in a class. Alot of one on one with professors and getting to know your professors on a personal level. Even though Point Park University is a dance majority school everyone gets along within the school. There is a place for everyone at Point Park University.

TUITION & AID

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
